I don't know what happened but the Photobucket slideshow does not work? Maybe to many images maybe entry error? I just don't know so until I figure it out this link will get to the images of Jims Bows...
Sorry for the error..
http://s28.photobucket.com/albums/c210/coaster500/Big%20Jims%20Bows/?start=all
This whole thread started because I want one of Jim's Bows and saved pictures to help me decide what woods I wanted. Well the Twin Thunderchilds are here and I could not be more pleased. It's raining here so I am shooting at 10' in the house but I love the feel of these bows. The first thing I notice is they carry a little more mass weight than other bows I've held like this. I like it and well the woods are drop dead gorgeous!!
After I shoot them a bit I'll add to this post but right now I can't quit holding and staring at them. The Tiger Myrtle, Crotch Walnut and Sheep Horn accents, give me the feeling of real quality. We decided to reverse the woods so that we could show the best of both.
They are 56" 45&50@28
Well done Jim, Well Done!!!
Thank You
They are in the slideshow :) But here is a peak....
I just noticed they will be the 300th picture in the show:)

Great Job Jim I Love the Twins....
I have been looking at Jim's bows for a long time. I have searched and saved quite a few pictures of his great looking bows to get ideas for my own.
Well I now have two bows on order from him.
There have been some posts asking for pictures so I asked Jim if I could post a slide show. He said yes so here it is.
Click on the link. When the page comes up there in an icon in the upper right side of the page that says SLIDESHOW. Click and enjoy...I do, I think it makes the wait go by faster :)

Kip, you're starting to sound like me now! I've got 2 on order and I'm getting ready to order my 3rd. I think for this one I'm gonna tell him to use the ugliest wood he has (Big Jim doesn't have any ugly wood) because I'll probably have him dip it.
So what did you order buddy??!!
Thanks for the show those are some great looking longbows that one on the porch is beautiful ! Thanks for the temptation.
WOW!!! Great Job on the all the pics!!! If I were Catholic I'd have to go to confession tomorrow!! :bigsmyl:
Kenneth,
This has been a long time coming for me. Jim is building me twin Thunder Child TDs, identical in materials.
Can't wait .....
Excellent slide show, I have one on order too. Can't wait to get it !!
Man. A GA boy and I still aint put one in my hand. Those bows look awesome. Big Jim if I bring you some chow chow would you get me a bow built by hunting season. :campfire:
Kip, that sounds great!! I really love the Buff bow!! The grip fits me really well, it draws very smooth and feels about 5 pounds lighter in draw than it actually is, it's dead in the hand and quiet, and it really smokes an arrow!! But part of me is wanting to try the Thunderchild in the 56" version. Luckily I have plenty of time to think about it. Choosing the woods really is the hardest part though with Jim because as soon as you think you got it figured out he'll get another order of some of the most beautiful wood you've ever seen in!! I'm trying to get all my orders in now because pretty soon Big Jim is gonna be backed up big time!! Best bow I've ever shot for me!!!!
Thanks coaster500 ....This is the type of thread I was looking for.... now my problem is, just when i thought i found the wood i was gonna settle on, I see this pic/wood it is awesome:
Can anyone tell me what type of wood this is and what the differences are in Big Jims models?.... His old website gave descriptions I think but its not up anymore....
My bow I want is a 1pc left handed either a 58" or 60" @66# @ 27" (my draw)....
This is tiger myrtle and walnut. Sweet looking wood.
1 and 2 piece buffalo bow - no difference. If I sent you a two piece assembled and didn't tell you, you may never know it was a two piece.
3 piece- can have a sleaker riser or one a little more fancy like a recurve. Grip is a little higher and can be made much higher. Performs same.
ThunderChild- short bow with all the traits of my buffalo except short. Silent and quick as a hic-cup as are the rest.
If you have a hard time deciding on the model, your in bad shape when it comes to choosing the wood combo's!!! I do it on purpose. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Thatsells it then!!!!!! Thats my wood!!!!!!!!
Thanks BigJim
I PM'ed ya on the other details
Hey, I saw my Bocote Baby in there!!
Great bows and bowyer!
Jim...is it possible to stain tiger myrtle so that it is a little darker?
That Bocote is hard to beat :) The sap wood in the Coco, the tiger myrtle and walnut are excellent all great choices, those ? (Cedar maybe) limbs look like they are on fire :)
Like I said Jim makes some pretty bows :)
Dang it Kip now you got me interested in the idea of a ThunderChild to match my Macassar and Zebrawood 2pc. But I also made the mistake of looking at that slideshow and all that pretty wood now my brain is all scrambled! :biglaugh:
Is that tiger myrtle native to the US. I like Walnut alot. That's a nice combo.
I don't know about tiger myrtle but myrtle is native here in California.
This is some myrtle that I found here in San Luis Obispo. The tree was found in a local creek and milled. I took the pictures with my phone sorry.
Well right there's your twins Kip! That is absolutely beautiful!!!
Up for Big Jim's Bows............
Cool man, and my new buffalo bow was in the slide show.It is the one made for T.J.with the scalloped birdseye maple limb veneers.Shoots as good as it looks too.Sure am glad that T.J. wanted a 3 peice and sold it to me.
I can't wait to get my first one!! Just a couple more weeks!! :bigsmyl: Still trying to decide on the 2nd, and 3rd one.

How long did it take you to get it?
Coaster 500, Thanks for putting this together! I'm on his list and this helps feed the anticipation! The pic with the tree and Dawgware Quiver makes a great background.
dave19113, Jim says about 16 weeks ....
I got to shoot one of Big Jim's bows down at the TBOF shoot and all I can say, very impressive longbow!!
You need to try and pull one of Big Jim's personal bows!! :)
Wow! You need to man up to pull 80+lbs! :notworthy:
What is the limb width on these bows at the widest? The profile looks like a widow PL? Thanks. BILL
Limb with is 1.25". Bullfrog, I will take that as a compliment.
thanks, bigjim
Thanks. BILL
Guys I was just at TBOF in Florida with Big Jim and got to meet him for the first time in person. He is a great guy that loves what he does. You can tell alot about someone when they are passionate about what they do. I was shooting one of Jim's Buffalo bows at the practice range as I have one on order and was totally impressed with the way his bows shoot. Great performance and dead in your hand no shock at all. I let a buddy of mine shoot the bow and he bought that very bow the next morning. His buddy bought one of Jim's bows also. Needless to say I am looking forward to getting mine in a few weeks. Rick J
I've bought or traded for 12 or 13 (I've lost count) bows since Oct. and I now have 3 of Jim's bows on order! They are smooth as butter, quiet as a church mouse, and dead as a wet noodle in the hand! Oh and they are truly works of art and fast as greased lighting! You won't talk to a nicer and more helpful man that loves what he does either. As soon as I sell a couple of boomsticks I'll get my name on his list a couple more times before people catch on and the wait is over year.
Ryan's Thunderchild added to the slideshow.....

OOO My...if I was only rich I could justify owning another bow!

Big Jim's Bows are some well priced bows, its worth saving a lil extra and pay it off. They take 20+ weeks so you have time.......
dave19113,
I agree Jim's bows a very well priced and real nice to look at :)
Beuatiful bow !!
i'm slowly falling in love with this one

something like that, but mostly more afraid by my banker ...
Here is Ryan's thread he is the proud owner of the above Big Jim's Thunder Child :) This little gem is only 52 inches long. It was a special order for Ryan's 25 inch draw......I have one ordered that is 56 inches long .....

one of the best longbows i have shot, his buffalo bows just shoot great!
gonna get on the list soon!i am fortuate enough to own a two pcs bought it used i am sold on his bows!
the two pcs bow against the tree in the slide show is my bow and tree lol
Added, Big Jim shooting 86# longbow
Coaster- I've been looking at that picture and can't believe that I'm still holding that bow back at full draw.LOL
just a fyi-- I am going to be picking up a fairly large supply of Black and white ebony on Friday(same woods in the bow pictured above).
Large supply is relative. Unfortunately none of it is dalmation.
thanks, bigjim
Jim, just looking at you holding 86#s at full draw sent a searing bolt of pain from shoulder to brain :)
In my youth I pulled an 80 plus pound wheel bow just enough time to know I wanted to sell it :)
Just for the record (like it matters) but that was a 90lb. We had left my target bow (86lb) behind. Can't really tell the differece except that I think the 90lb makes my belly stick out farther when I shoot. LoL
I have so little time to shoot anymore that it takes a little stretching to get warmed up. I have moved a bag and a spare bow to my bow shop. Maybe I can take 15 minute breaks like when I had a real job. I could hone up on my shooting.
bigjim
Never gets old looking at all these good looking bows! I need to just get on the list. :archer:
Jim with all the irons you have in the fire, I think it's amazing that you shoot at all :)
Two more builds and I am up.....man the wait is killing me:)
You want be dissapointed, I promise
I just can't put my Buff bow down! I just got 2 extra strings for it a few days ago and I already have one broken in and tuned, and will start on the other one tomorrow.
Mines in the batch being built now. Been running to the Post office everyday I get a chance, with fingers crossed. I just Love the Slideshow! I'm planning on going to Denton Hill in July, and I'll be able to meet Big Jim in person, (and see what goodies he brings along!). I want a 2pc Thunder Child next, so maybe he'll have one I like, if not I'll get to go over what I want with him in person. Life is good when a man can have that Xmas anticipation feeling at 51 years old, in May no less!! I Love it!
I'm with you Danny
Make sure you shout out when you get yours because that's one more build closer to mine ....
Getting closer ;)
New Pictures added !!

Kip,I don't know who is resonsible for Jim's slideshow but it is a Masterpiece. When I talked with Jim he's sure pushing a lot of credit your way ,so well done my friend.Jim's sure proud of it!
Thanks Steve, it all happened because I was trying to choose my own woods. With subject matter like Jim's Bows it was fun. Once I had all the pictures the slideshow was a no brainer. I'm glad Jim likes it and maybe it helped a few others like me in the order process and the build wait?
Who says knowing someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is all bad :help:
Hey Don't worry about the disorder thing.I'm sure we're all suffering from something!
New fall crop at Big Jims :) ..... 289 images now....
Kipp,You sure did a great job on that slideshow.I was talking to the Little fella about it last week and you sure made him proud,GREAT JOB.
Man those are nice looking bows.I am glad I put my order in for a 56" TD Thunderchild and a 58" one piece Buffalo Bow several months ago. Waiting sucks but I know when my bows arrive it will be worth the time spent dreaming about them!
Thanks Steve , "The Little fella's" artwork made it easy and a pleasure to do. I have fun sharing the joy you guys express when you get one of these fine shooters in your hand, and don't forget I need to have something to do while I wait for mine :)
My twins will probably be in the mail today if Jim gets the grip done soon enough. Can you believe it? It's been a tough wait, but the wait just started over as I just put in an order for my second Buff in a bit higher weight so the beat goes on !!!
Cody, you will love your Buff and the TC we will talk about them soon, I love my Buff :)
I started a Hero post for Jim's website of the Guys and the game they harvest with their Big Jim Bows....If any of you would like to be in the Hero Show please PM me with the pictures or the link to your post....

Thank You and enjoy the "The Little fella's" Bows !!!
Kip
Be sure to post up pictures of the Twins when they arrive! I spoke to Jim a few weeks back he said the orders have really poored in last few months which does not surpise me when you see his bows, hear feedback from owners, and look at his prices which are more than fair in todays market.
Im in wait for a Thunderchild, too!
As i dont know nothing about woods i just ordered a dark one with some different shapes, im getting a little concerned now but am sure Mr.Bigjim will make me happy. :jumper: :jumper: :dunno:
Cant see the slideshow :(

Coaster great job with the hero pics.I orderd my buff and t.c at compton the wait is killing me.Ill send you some pics when the come
I'm happy to say that I ordered a new Thunderchild a little while ago! I had 2 compounds. I sold the newest compound to buy my first longbow, and though I'm fairly new to trad, I couldn't stand looking at all these pics of BigJim's bows without ordering one! So, I sold my 2nd compound (I'm COMPLETELY trad now!) to start the savings for my new Thunderchild. I'm also in the process of selling some other unused hunting equipment, and have an idea that Santa might contribute to the "pot" as well! ;) I can't wait for it to arrive in a few months! Coaster, your slide show is great, but it only tortures me while I anxiously await the arrival of mine!
thump, thank you and send your pictures when you can :)
gobblegrunter, I feel for you but the prize is worth the wait :)
Send me picture of your new or new to you Big Jim bows and I'll post them in the BOW SLIDESHOW......
send me pictures of any game animals taken with your Big Jim Bows and I'll post them in the BIG JIM HERO SLIDESHOW
Merry Christmas to all :)
ttt
They are awesome looking bows. I WILL be ordering a thunderchild when I catch up with the christmas bills. Talk to you in january Jim.
1/9/2011 update 357 images
Have gone thru the image list numerous times. I have to break it down into 20 pics at a time. Beyond that I become somewhat hypnotized and delusional.
Then it's doing its job :)
What a glorious way be hypnotized !!!
Your time is coming ..... What is your final choice of woods?
im 90% sure the next bow i order is going to be one of his. have to have up the cash to get a takedown with snake skin. those look so freaking hot. maybe by next summer
coaster500 - I am little apprehensive in divulging what I have requested Big Jim to do. There are those that may claim heresy and shoot me. When I 1st mentioned my desires to the Big Elf, he immediately hoisted me overhead and when about to trash his man cave, some spark went off in his head. He then set me down gently with a smile and said 'I think I have something'.
On a more sensible note - First and foremost, the Big Jim experience far exceeds expectations- excellent listener, exceptional advisor, quite resourceful, confidence builder, artistic, descriminating eye, elite craftsman and a extraordinary gentleman.
I am still working up the nerve to post the specs of my Dream TC. Some may wish to shoot me.
Friend,With the disease we all have for Big Jim's nothing is out of the ordinary.DEVULGE YOUR WISHES TO ALL.Let the masses be the judge,LOL
My proposed Dream TC takedown specs are as follows:
• Right hand
• Length - 56"
• Take Down Bow Option
• Beaver tail grip – Black
• Extra Fast Flite string
• Wt- 53#'s @ 28
• Grip size – ~ 4 15/16" – 5 1/6" circumference @ throat w/beaver tail grip
• Grip configuration – ~30 degree but no more
• Riser – Black glass w/Accents to complement limbs
• Riser and limb accents are totally entrusted to Big Jim's discretion
. Limbs - Dalmation w/ gaboon splice at ends
• Tillered for three under
• Horn Overlay Tips
• Horn Overlay Back side of bow
Justifications:
Black Glass Riser – Have always preferred more mass wt. and I do not hunt with an attached quiver. Note: The carbon TD systems adds insignificant wt if any. Big Jim speculated that this glass material could be run over with a semi and hold up.
Jim estimated, to my questionable recollection, that the glass riser may add ~5 oz. of additional wt.
While it appears that each TC is a work of art, I have absolutely no reservations that this one would be the exception. Even those TC's depicted as solid black or grey are works of art. I had the dream, but it was totally Big Jim whose vision and skills are making my Dream TC a reality. Possibly a little rationalization and some practicality, the small risers are already ~50% covered by the beaver tail grip.
Limbs – Big Jim has only enough dalmation left to complete the limb veneer with a splice of some other wood. That wood will be gaboon. Again, it was Big Jim who came up with this proposal since I initially wished for all dalmation. Jim comes through again.
Yes, the bow's name will be 'Dream TC'.
Friend, that sounds like a beauty!! Can't wait to see the pics!
Friend--no such thing as heresy when it comes to choosing the 'Ingredients' for 'your' custom bow. I'm anxious to see how she comes out. I'm guessing it will be a beauty.
Friend, you are raising the bar for those of us who obsess over the Little Guys bows. I can't wait to see your Dream TC come to life :)
coaster500,DannyBows & Kenneth - There is possibly more beauty in function and I am confident that the Big Boy will masterly craft both.
Updated .....

Beautiful, but evil, pure evil....don't need another bow....don't need another bow....don't need another bow....don't need another bow.... :banghead:
tick, tock, tick, tock,tick,tock....
My Thunderchild is still just a figment of my imagination, and a big hunk of ironwood in Big Jim's shop.
Centaur- Hunk is not so big. I have turned into several smaller, but still prety big hunks. Liked it so much, have purchased another HUNK.

The image count is growing quickly, however I hope my Dream TC is not the 1000th.

Hey Kip, I just got my new Thunderchild a few weeks ago... Haven't taken any pictures of it but I will get some soon. B&W Ebony, with Gaboon Ebony riser, 2-piece, with beavertail, and black Buff tips and overlays on the back of riser. No white in the bow other then what is in the wood. Very subdued classic look, and it shoots great... 56", 70# @ 29"... Quick hop, skip, and a jump and it has become my #1 bow... Hopefully I'll get a proper picture with it at Solana in a month... ;)
Sounds beautiful... lots of pics !!!
Congrats
I bought a Thunderchild from Jim a while back. Very pretty bow. I decided later on that I wanted to try a Buffalo. Sold my T.C.,and just picked up a 66"Buff' on a trade deal. And man do I every like that bow. I mean I like everything about it. That is what it takes,a bow that I don't even need to think about shooting while shooting it. It is so fun when those arrows are just bunched together in a tight circle downrange. Everytime....well almost.
