I just got done watching predator nation! Dont know how many of you guys watch but that doesnt matter. Anyway, in the Yukon Grizzly and wolf episode he had a longbow??? He really didnt hunt with it that much, actually only like mabye 2 minuets of film with it in there, but it was just kinda weird to see?? Mabye he cant shoot it as well or something, but I was wondering if any of you guys have seen him use it before?
If I'm not mistaken, I think he hunted for goats on Molokai with a longbow.
u know what I think you may be right, I think?
It was an easton bowhunting episode. I think he shot an axis buck with his compound and a goat with his longbow. Watched way too many of his shows to remember everything though.
I am pretty sure you're right, I think he did shoot the goat with a longbow when he was in Hawaii.
You guys are right. In the Hawaii episode he is shooting a longbow (reflex/deflex). I have all the episodes on my DVR...I checked.

Didn't know he shot a compound - guess he would be the "jack of all trades" - sounds like a rumor to me.

he sure does, he bowhunted in Africa with a compound
Fred is now shooting mostly compound from what i have seen . dont remember wich wheel bow hes pushing now
Well in this episode it was a 3 peice "D" shaped one! I do remember the goat. I havent seen him shoot a compound in a LONG time, actually I think the entire last season was all recurve, dont know about this new season yet, Sportsmans channel hasnt caught up to the outdoor channel yet, lol
He shoots Hoyt's, they are a sponsor of his show, and though he doesnt like them as much, it pays the bills.
I know the goat hunt in Hawaii he used a Toelke Whip longbow...Mike

That's right on the money.....and no, he still "mostly" hunts with his recurves...Palmer and Hoyt
I don't watch Hunting shows too much these days, but I will check out Fred's shows once in a while. I find his hunts a blast to watch and the fact he mostly uses a Recurve or Longbow is just a bonus.
While flipping channels last evening, I came upon his Easton Bowhunting TV show. He had what looked like a Toelke Whip bow bolt takedown and he used it to take a beautiful Pronghorn Buck. Man! Most fun I had watching one of these shows in a long time. Kudos to Guys like Fred! He's one of the best out there in my book. Would love to meet him someday.

I'd say he shoots what he wants. Like most of us.
Very fine fellow and extremely knowledgable hunter....of everything.
His is the only show I care to watch, no matter what he is hunting or hunting with.
I will watch other shows from time to time if they are bowhunting moose, sheep, goat, or antelope hunting. Thank goodness for DVR. I can FF through the corny intros and closings and the ads. Takes only about 12 minutes to watch a 30 minute show this way.
I love to hunt whitetails but I'd rather watch the news than whitetail hunts or shotgun turkeys.
I think he could shoot any bow pretty well. I follow him on instagram...he hunts with trad, compound, and guns. Looks like a fun life he leads.
I think I read an article in bow hunter about him taking an antelope with a long bow as well. I may be wrong though it was a while ago.
A couple weeks ago I remember an episode he shot a pronghorn with a D/R bow and did the Eichler thing, went ballistic with joy. He did mention this was the second critter with a longbow harvesting the goat in Hawaii the first.
Well, at least he has finally seen the light!
Took him long enough!

Lots of us shoot compound bows, and longbows, and recurves and guns too...I consider myself to be a hunter and shooter and the tools that I use are my business as long as I use them ethically and legally...an elitist attitude with regard to equipment just makes us targets for the antis

Dan said Fred has owned a Toelke Whip for 6-7 years. He must have good taste!
While scanning the channels I landed on Fred shooting a antelope with a longbow. A 17 yard shot and the goat was down. Looks like Fred is trying to add a new challenge to his hunts.
I always enjoyed watching his show, back when I had cable. Glad to hear that he is using more trad equipment now. It always seemed to me that he enjoyed the recurve more than the compound (though it never looked like he was lacking joy on ANY of his hunts regardless of method), but he was "paying the bills" more with the Hoyt sponsor and their compounds. I would imagine the fact that he collaborated with Hoyt to produce his model of recurve, lends him a lot more lee-way for using them in the shows that they sponsor. Kinda like he found the secret to getting trad stuff in a commercialized industry by making them money selling a very nice recurve.
