I know another favorite thread. I'm just curious what is your favorite bow grip and why. What bowyer makes a standard grip that you like without asking for changes.
I like a thin locator grip with a very slight palm swell. Thanks in advance.
Locator with a medium palm swell. BW fits me well.
On my longbows (not hybrids) I prefer a straight grip only slightly rounded on the sides and a tear drop shape on the belly side. Once you get used to those they are hard to beat.
I still remember the first time I held one of Dave Windauer's bows in my hand. The grip sold me, right off the bat.
Shrew followed by any other bow with a Shrew grip.
White knuckled seems to be the one I go to most often in the field, LOL. seriously, I like a slightlly lower than medium grip with a narrow palm swell- most of mine are altered to resemble a '63 Kodiak grip. GY
Mine is a straight that is asymmetrical towards the the bow hand and straighter on the side away from the hand side of the bow. It gives me the traction of a sharper grip without the discomfort. It looks like a standard straight grip, but when you grab it with the other hand, you definitely know you have the bow in the wrong hand. It is very difficult to explain it to a bowyer, I only have that grip on my own bows. A shallow arched depression would be my second choice.
I tend to like a medium grip or a little less than medium in a curve or hybrid TD bow with a shallow palm swell. I also like a pronounced locator grip on LBs. My favorite boyer standard grips are:
MOAB
Black Widow standard
Firefly
Shrew
GMMAT, I have heard those are nice grips. They are on my bows to shoot list. I like how the Tolke classic grip looks as well.
Grant, Love your first answer. It may not be the prefered grip, but it's one shared in common with many of your fellow hunters!
Shrew hands down for me. I love the palm swell that buldges a little to the side towards the shelf and then the thumb ridge on the opposite side. It is impossible to toque that grip and my hand falls in just like a hand shake!! :)
I like a thin low grip because i have small hands. My Widow PSA X grip is perfect.
Wally, for me, I learned the only way to get a grip I was perfectly happy with was to have the maker send me the riser unfinished and I worked the grip to where I wanted it then sent it back to him for final finish.
If you're askeered of whittlin (trust me, the first couple are nail biters, but then it gets easier), the best "stock" grips for me have been Morrison med/low and low, any Super Shrew, and Habu Death Adder.
Or, if you could just tell Bob "JC's grip" ;)
That grip on your bow is sweet JC. For a 3-peice that would be my pick. There is just something special about a thin leather wrapped locator. A shrew grip is one of my favorites as well.
I'm 50/50 split between a Morrison High Cheyenne grip & a Border medium.
I generally prefer as high a grip as I can get, finger grooves are a nice bonus too, as long as they fit well.
Conversely I also love the Shrew grip, which just goes to show.......something I guess.
For me, the #2 grip on the Bear Take downs and older compounds is the best grip.
Joe
Longbow = Shrew
Recurve = Dale Dye/Trails End
Kyle
Hill style straight.

x2
I like the straight Hill grip. The small TD sleeve is pretty good with just a thin leather wrap, but if the riser is wood I like a little narrower and deeper than the TD sleeve. A slight dish is OK but the radical locator, palm swell type don't work for me.
Something about that medium checkered grip on the Silvertip does it for me!
The most consistantly referenced grip I've found is the Blacktail Med. checkered grip. Everytime I go to hold it it just fits perfectly into my hand and stays put. Feels natural.
Martin super D an dreamcatcher.
Predator... just awesome

Ditto for me. ;)
Without a doubt the Schafer Silvertip medium recurve grip with the checkering is the best bow grip that my hand has ever touched!
Oh yeah! Mine is on the Robertson Perigrine 50's style recurve, which he no longer makes :( Luckily I have one hanging in my shop (my third)and every time I hold it I smile :archer:
Longbow: Griffin
Recurve: Robertson
Robertson longbows have a nice grip as well.
Zipper SXT
Bill
Hybred... Griffin
Recurve.... Morrison "Low Grip"
Gene
I like a lot of the grips mentioned, but the TallTines grip has ruined all the rest for me.
I really like the grip Dave Beeler puts into his longbows.locator grip with a alittle palm swell.fits like a glove
For me its the asbell on my PSA.

I totally agree!! Jason
my favorite grip so far is my J.D. berry taipan. followed by my J.D.berry argos. I also really liked the whisper stick I used to have.. hornes traditionalist has a really nice grip too. I like a medium low grip. with a small throat. that way the fit into the ebbing of my thumb the same everytime.
Shrew, Morrison low, and Brackenbury Peerless (it is a little slimmer than the other Bracks I have shot). All are different, but they all work very well because of the orientation in which they hold your hand, wrist and arm. If I had to choose only one, it would be the Shrew grip.
Allan
Black Widow Asbell grip and Toelke Classic grip. Very different grips, but both fit my hand to a "T". I like the Classic grip so much I thought I'd try the BW low grip, but it isn't the same. All other grips are judged by these two...Mike
My vote is for the A&H 16"RC riser with the finger grooves, hand goes in the same place every time. Also, tried a Silvertip checkered grip that felt very similar that I also liked.
Mark
Schafer.
The shrew grip is so natural.
I like my JD Berry Appallo and Renaissanse. Argos grip is the same as Renaissance. They are smaller and lower comparing with most recurve styles. Feels even pressure to my palm.
Shrew grip is #1
Looks like there is alot of fans of the Shrew and Silvertip. It is real hard to beat a Shrew grip.
21st Century "New Moon" grip and Shrew.
This is just like "What boots are best" kind of thread. One size does not fit all.
Dick Robertson's longbow dished grip.
schafer, hard to beat.
I think my favorite is the Dale Dye grip. Next in line is the BW Asbell. Honorable Mentions go to the Morrison Cheyenne, Schafer Silvertip, and Whisperstik Mojostik.
Claudia
bob lee grip i had on my signature elite perfect fit absolutley loved it should have never got rid of it worst is probably on my martin hunter older one that is all bubinga if the bow didnt shoot so well i would get rid of it
Shrew for me, for now
My favorite grip is whatever bow is in my hand at the time. :)
