Title: Will this work?
Post by: americanhunter7 on March 03, 2010, 12:10:00 AM
I have an arrow dilemma that I think will work, but... I am going to ask anyway. Gonna try some carbons (CE 250's to be exact). I'll be shooting them out of RER Falcon 42@28 with a 28.75" draw. 250's wil have 200 grain fields with PDP weight system 101 with insert, collars and weights)making total arrow weight around 657 with approx. 21.1% FOC. My hunting setup...at least I'm thinking would be a 165 single bevel Zwickey, with PDP's to equal or be very close to field point setup. My question is does anyone think this will be a good setup out of such a light poundage recurve, and will it work?
Thanks as always,
John

I shoot heritage 250 30.5" with 145 grains BH and 125 grains insert (total 270 grains in front) from a 61#@29" recurve

I think that the 250's will be really too stiff, you'd better go with the 150 (470 spine) wich will better matched to your setup.

Assuming a FF string, your bow needs a 42# dynamic spine arrow, to get that you have several choices, one of them could be :
heritage 150 cut at 31.5"
100 gr brass inserts
145 gr BH
That will make a 570gr arrow (13 grains per pound), 20.8% foc and 42# dynamic spine.

I'm shooting 30" 250's w/ 145 tip and std. insert.....162gr total....from a 52#@29" recurve.

That being said.....I still think you're (OP) gonna be too stiff.

I'm shooting 250's outta 55lbs.curve  28draw with 30in. arras, and had to add 100gr.inserts and collars and 125 head to get it to fly, like the guys are saying may be too stiff. good luck!

You can play around with Stu Millers dynamic spine calculator (search pow wow), but you will need to know how close to center your side plate is. That might give you some more insight. I found it quite close if you give it all the inputs.

Think you will find way too stiff. I shoot 250's at 31.25" from a 49@28 with fast flight and had to load the front end.

the calculator can be down loaded at

 http://www.heilakka.com/stumiller/
if you do not have microsoft excell you can download spread sheet program from  http://www.openoffice.org

Try the 150's, and you will still need to front load them. I shot 250's out of my widow (54@28) that are 29.5" long with l00gr brass inserts and 125gr points. 250 is going to be to stiff for your setup.

I have Stu's calculator and have played with it a bunch, thus the crazy confusion and all the questions. After talking with some local bowyer's, and a few trad guys at some of the indoor shoots I'm gonna try the 150's and maybe even the 90's to see which one will work better. Thanks for all who responded.
