I`m looking for snakeskins for a set of limbs. Wondering if anybody have some tips about this :)
Thinking about some special skins from a Gaboon Viper or Puff Adder.

Those might be tuff to find,I like the look of snakeskins on some bows.I have done a couple of my bows with western diamondback rattle snakes.Have you thought about some Limbsations from Onestringer.com,these are like arrow wraps.They don't cost as much as real skins,easy to put on and can be removed easily without harm to the bows finish.Just a thought
JRY, have you used these limbstations before? I just checked them out they look like real skins to me. Do you know how long they last?
I think those would be tough to find but not impossible.Reptile breeders have snakes die all the time.I don't know if you have any in Norway.
There also may be problems with shipping some wild skins internationally if the species are protected.
The problem you have with very wide snakes like you mention,is that if you get a skin long enough for your bow limb,it is so wide that you will only be using a small,narrow strip and a lot of the pattern that looks so neat on the snake,will not end up on the bow.Snakes like that can also cost $100-$200 per skin,not counting shipping.
Puff adders are more common and may be easier to get and though they aren't as colorful as Gaboons,their chevron pattern might work fairly well on a bow.
klm5121,I've heard of a couple of guys that have had them on their bows for a couple of years so far.Plus they give you alittle added protection to the back of the limb,for light scratches.They have quite a few different patterns.

I`m thinking about a new set of limbs for my BW PMA V.
I have a set with copperheads and a set with canebrake skins for it but have seen the colours on the Gaboon and the Puff Adder, and think that one of these would be a very special snakeskin that not many have on their limbs.
I have searched the net for a long time to find some, I have one Puff Adder skin from a snake I shot with my FireFly longbow on my last year bowhunt in SA, but that ain`t enough for both limbs.
So hopefully some of the tradgangers have an idea or the information to push me in the right direction :archer:
