If I had to chose between a Robertson and a Widow for my first truely custom take - down recurve, which would make me the most happy? Which do the masses generally favor? I dont care about high tech or top speed. Im looking for a bow that makes me smile ear to ear when I shoot it, is built like a tank and will last and last! A bow that will make me say "worth every penny"! Just feeling for some opinions bases on experience here.
Buy them both! This post will get you a hundred answers with the consensus being....shoot both and then you decide. If the grip doesn't fit you, it doesn't matter how pretty it is, you won't like it. i know black widow offers a demo program. Call Mr. Robertson up and ask if he has one you can demo. :)
I have both and both are great bows, I think more widows are probably sold.
The bow that makes me "smile" is the Robertson

Both are great bows but, I give the edge to
black widow.
This thread is already been discussed check out.I get both,I like both, buy both.
I have both and both will shoot lights-out. The bow that will make you smile the widest is for you to decide. Try one of each and let us know which one you choose!
Claudia
Robertson!
I have a brand new Robertson Fatal Styk and it is a beauty. I have owned a few Widows too! I like them both. As far as appearance, woods and the handle, I like the Roberston better. I like the durability and the name that Widow brings to their products. They have great resale but I think the Roberston's do too! Price is about the same. Both are great bows. You can't go wrong with either.
Dick will send one to shoot for shipping cost widow has test drive. My Robertson is definatly a prettier bow. But I prefer a widow a little faster much tougher finish and seems to shoot harder. I think I prefer the widow more for mass weight as well. Both are excellent bow. Form your own opinion shoot them both that way you will never second quess your decision.
Either one is gonna cost you plenty, spend a little extra and have them both send you a try-out.
My money would go with a Robertson.

If you're buying brand spanking new and have never shot either you absolutely need to test drive them first. I would be sick to death if I bought a $1000 bow and I hated it. Shoot who knows? You might not like either! I like my PSA, but everyone is different.

Yeah, what varmint said..
If yer gonna buy new, you better test both first!
Especially if your looking for what puts a smile on yer face!
If you had tested both, felt they were equal, and felt stats should decide then fair enough..
Black Widow will lend you a bow to try, possibly Robertson will have that option as well!
Give them a call and spend 50$ to try them out first! It will be worth it!
I haven't shot a Robertson yet, but I have shot some Widows. They kind of made me yawn. For the money they bring, I was hoping for uncontrollable giggles rather than a smile. The takedown recurve that made me smile, and drool a little bit, was an Assenheimer of Bill Sant's. The grip fit me perfectly and it shot exactly where I pointed it. If I were thinking recurve, that's the one I'd pick. Alas, though, I think I'll stick with my longbows.
Well thanks for the thoughts everybody. Guess Ill have to arrange a meeting of the 2 mighty bows and see which romances me better. A "tougher" finish as the widow was described appeals to me. Have to see how the fatal styk is put together. I take great care of all my stuff, but its nice to have the insurance! New to the traditional life, but shot compounds since the age of 10 or so ....33 now. Im learning that the transition is from somewhat of a sterile machine to beautiful works of soulfull art that all have individual personalities....and the choices arent easy! I want 1 of each haha! Thanks again!
I have both and both great shooters, both have a try prior too buying, you may want too look into that option, if you want a bow built like a tank then widow is waht I would say, again both great bows.
For that kind of money I'm usually wondering Ford, or Chevy. :D Just kidding, I would never consider a Ford. :D :D
Seriously now, The best advise you got was to demo them at the same time. I would add, don't be in a rush. I would reccomend several years of trad archery with lots of horse trading different used bows before settling on "the one" and spending that kind of money. I would almost bet that bow that you're selling that bow within a year. JMO.
Get the Robertson, but not until Dick is finished with mine. I wouldn't want him to feel rushed while he is finishing my bow.
What makes you smile??
Looks?, dependability?, price?, resale?
I hated the looks of the widows so much that I didn't even want to consider shooting one. Now I own four. To each their own.
I traded for two Widows, made to last my friend and top notch speeders to boot. Never leaving my hands.
Try them both if you can.
I know lots of guys love Widows but I wouldn't spend $20 on a barrel of 'em (sorry, OLD widow joke). Haven't enjoyed shooting or looking at any of the Widows I've had my hands on.
What made you settle on those two?
Widow, hands down (IMO)
widow
Widow!
I'd pick up a good condition used Widow and put the money saved toward a Robertson (while keeping my eyes peeled on the classifieds for said Robertson...)
:D
These kind of comparisons really aren't fair as we presently have the best bow choices available ever. If you've trimmed your personal choices to the 2 listed, then others have stated the best course to follow, which is try them both and determine which YOU like best. Have fun and best of luck.
I don't believe you can objectively say that one is better than the other. Get the one you like the looks of, and you will be happy, and animals will die.
