So I'm looking at buying a fletching jig and they talk about left wing and right wing. Before I drop money on this stuff I'd really like to know what wing is. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

right and left wing refers to what wing the feather came from on the bird. you need to match your fletching to your jig
example i have a right wing jig so i buy only right wing feathers
The feathers are slightly different on the left and right wings of the turkey. You need to use left-wing feathers with a left-wing fletching jig, and vice-versa. For most people, it doesn't make any difference whether you use left or right wing.
The quill of the feather has a ledge that sticks out to the side of the feather. Looking from the rear of the arrow, the ledge will be on the right side of the feather for left-wing feathers, and vice-versa for right-wing feathers.
If you want a reason to pick one or the other, a right-wing feather will give a clockwise spin to the arrow. This will tend to tighten your screw-in target points when the arrow hits the target. OTOH, people who have studied Rick Welch's methods tend to prefer left-wing because of the way he recommends fletching arrows.
this will help..basically you just have to use a lw feather on a lw clamp and a rw feather on a rw clamp.... you can use both lw and rw on a straight clamp......

The jig itself isn't bound to Right or Left feathers, the clamps that come with the jig are.
So if you want to fletch both wings, get a straight clamp. The arrow will get less spin than from a helical clamp, but it is enough to stabilize.
Also be careful not to fletch Left and Right feathers on the same arrow! (Regardless of the clamp ;) )

Most right hand shooters shoot left wing feathers, left handed shoot right wing.
Some say matching to wing to the shooter doesn't matter but I have found that it does, at least for me.
Usually vendors will have more left hand feathers on stock than right hand feathers if your going to 3/D shoots to buy. Doesn't make a difference if your mail ordering.
The reason there is more left wing fletching available is that when the turkey wings are clipped to keep the birds from flying out of the pen, the birds are held in such a fashion that it's easier for a right-handed person to clip the left wing, and there are more right-handed people.
That's alot of good info. I'am a left hand shooter and they say I should use right wing feathers. But I have used both right and left. It doesn't seem to matter. I have 3 right clamps and 3 left. That way when I get deals on feathers it doesn't matter which ones I buy.
Just to clarify things. Would left/right be detirmined looking from the front of the bird or sitting in the drivers seat?
