I ended up buying our old family farm last fall & now that I have 80 acres I'm thinking about trying something I've always thought would be neat.
I'm thinking about have a traditional only "target hunt". This would consist of all bag targets strategically placed along logging roads where the shooters walk and when they see a target they shoot it from where they see it. Some people will see it from a further point and others possibly a closer point.
The scoring would be easy. A possible 30. You get a point for every target you hit. When you reach the end of the course if you didn't find 30 targets you don't get the points.
This is just something I thought would pretty much duplicate stump shooting and could be a fun time for all. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!
I think it definitly sounds cool.
That's a great idea. Sounds like a lot of fun. I see your from Pa also.
The Traditional Bowhunters of Washington hold a mid-season 3-D event every October with a similar theme. We set out 3 courses of 15 animals each...but no shooting stakes. Archers walk the trail, finding the critters and shooting from first view.
It's more fun to rotate lead shooters if groups go out...and some targets are designated as broadhead targets.
It's lots of fun, generating discussion :campfire: about which target they did or did not see.
Scoring is optional, but having a good time is mandatory. :goldtooth:
Our club sometimes has a "string shoot" which is similar with 3D targets. You follow the string and shoot from wherever you see a target, but can not go backwards only fwd following the string. Last time I didn't see a couple of the targets till it was too late!
It is fun. Also a nice change of pace. Makes you keep alert.(similar to hunting).
Why can't you be from Oregon? :banghead: Congrats, sound like this could be a real good way to meet other traditionalists and tradgangers. You could even host an annual tradgang shoot!? Always did want to go to PA. Here they have good whitetails out that way. :D
Sounds like a great idea. I'd be up all the time to shoot it. lol. Let us know if this becomes a reality.
cool idea.
YES YES YES what a great idea!! :clapper: :clapper: :jumper:
great idea but sounds like an insurance mans dream account
Any 3-D shoot should be set up by folks who know what they are doing and have safety in mind as primary consideration.
Good backstops are a must or setup should be where there is NO chance of others being in the line of fire.
Great idea!
If I were close enough I would be there for that shoot -- it sounds too cool to pass up.
o sounds awesome, but so close, yet so far. Dont know what county you live in, but there are two Meadvilles in PA(PA is very creative when it comes to names incase you guys didnt know, lol), one is 4 hours away and the other is two
longbowman, we have very similar circumstances. My archery club was just granted about a 100 acre sliver of property along the river. I was thinking of the same thing only I needed ideas for targets. The targets would have to be durable to withstand flooding when that occurs.
One idea was to put a tennis ball on a rope and dangle it from a tree limb. I know there are a lot of issues and with keeping safety in mind, I would like other ideas for targets. Sorta like making a large stump shooting zone.
Sounds like a great idea. To bad you're from PA though.
Can you move the farm to Jersey
Sounds like a great time to me!
Sounds good to me!
I think any reason to get a bunch of friends to me is a good idea! Good luck with the planning!
