I have a riser that is black phenolic (dark black) and grey maple that sort of has a deep blueish tint to it. Its a predator riser so the checker or accent strip in the riser is purple heart which kinda looks redish in this riser and green maple(dark green) Im going to have a new set of limbs made soon and cant decide what would really look good. I had a set of black locust limbs for it that I sold and they looked good. The light color of the locust really contrasted and made the bow come alive. I was thinking a zebra wood or bocote. I really like the look of olive ash but I think that would only look good on a brown wood riser. Any ideas? :bigsmyl:

Frankly, if using clear glass, I like red elm. I hate that swirly grained stuff like bocote in limbs, it makes me dizzy. 8^). Good elm has kind of a golden cast to it. Just me though.

I like red elm too. That is what my pronghorn ferret is. Very nice.

Unlike George I like that swirley stuff in the limbs :) My kids and grand kids can still get me on the roller coaster with them :)

Your choices are hard to beat.
My next bow, if and when I can afford it, is going to have limbs veneers from a Myrtle tree that was found in a local creek and milled. Here is a phone picture, sorry. This is unfinished, dried raw wood.

George are you Dizzy yet :bigsmyl:

A pic of your riser would help a lot. I have a hard time picking woods, but I am thinking a gray stained figured maple like birds eye, or quilted. Others I like are curly etimore, or birch. I think all of these could be stained to match your gray maple riser.

That looks like the cellular structure of an elongated amoeba, Coaster 8^))))))))).

Not a fancy wood but maybe gray Dymond wood with those colors.

George I'll get back to you when I ask my Grand Daughter what all them big words means :)

Have you checked out plum or canary wood? Also juniper goes with everything :)
For plum/canary, see bow gallery at centaur archery's website.
Also, you could always stain some maple to any desirable shade!
Hickory ain't an ugly wood either ;)

Just take your riser to the local woodworking shop and check it out next to various woods. The choice has to be yours. It's your bow. Find what you like and go with it. I have a cocobolo board right now that I bought because the grain said "bow limbs". I haven't made the form yet but it's coming. Just look at different woods. They'll tell you what to do.

I have the same Predator riser with black glass limbs. I had a couple sets of limbs with red elm and locust but I sold them. I just prefer the black glass. If I got some limbs with wood veneers I'd probably go with the bocote or other darker highly figured/grained wood.

I drug out my april/may 2006 issue of tbm where they tested the predator and those zebra limbs look great. I like how the grain lines are black. Any other limb wood have dark or black grain lines like that?

Red elm is my favorite limb wood just not for this bow.

Red elm stained gray?

No stain for me.... I like my wood natural
