For hunting. Is there one that is a stable shooter at shorter lengths. Ive heard good things on the cascade bows Nighthawk and Golden hawk in the magnum. Would prefer a 48 for manuverability but concerned in the give up of shootability. My draw is 27 3/4.
I had a Golden Hawk Mag.,wish I still had it,one of the best short recurves. My favorite short bow now is one that's 58"....lol!!!
Black Mountain Sheepeater
Rodney Wright--Stalker Recurve 46 inch.
I don't know Cascade bows but for the money the old Bear Kodiak Magnum is one heck of a bow:smooth, quiet and enough fast up to 20 yrs.Another my favorite is Rocky Mountain 50".It is so bad that they are no more made
Take a look at the TwoTracks ambush...... it is a 50" recurve that draws very smooth...... chuck makes a great bow...
Black Swan Sniper
Toelke Chinook
Saluki Turk
K-Mag shoots right with them all.
The Kodiak Magnum is a great bow for your draw length; I know because that is my draw length. Another good choice in the vintage line is the Browning Nomad Stalker 52", and the Pearson BPH-52.
The Cascade bows by Steve Gorr are hard to beat for short takedowns.
The Kodiak Mag. comes to mind first, they are fairly easy to find. I used to shoot a Texas Recurve Commanche 52", way-to-heavy-for-me-now @ 28" static tipped recurve. I shot it pretty well but they are hard to come by.
Jeffery Mighty Mag was the best 52" bow I have ever owned.
I'll second the Rodney Wright Stalker. Only 46" and shoots with the big boys. If you can't shoot it, you can't shoot. :archer:
Do they still make the bows Keako bows ? they had a 44 and and 38 that were sweet!!! I shot the 44mag with a 29 1/2 inch draw back when he was still alive.
K mags float my boat or sail my arrow.
I had a ben persons 50# 52" bow that shot great! I am shooting a 58" now but really want to get another 52" bow soon they are very nice.
Jack Kempf is offering his Kwyk Styk's in 52" now. Have not shot one but Jack has knowing but good things to say about it.
K-Mag is also a good shooter.
Bear Supermag 48" @ 50# A little pinch right at 28", but awesome out of a blind, in the stand, or stalking!
I beleive Lee Hoots is making a 52" H00TS recurve also now. sweet little bows but I opted for the 54".
I like the old Bear Super Mags.
I owned a Checkmate for a short time. Can't remember the model but it was a shooter and I shot it pretty good.
I have a Check Mate Raven on order. Heard good things.
I had a 52" Fedora Stalker that was real nice. Smooth. Fast. The arrow hit where I was wanting it to. It was about 4 pounds heavier than I was accustomed to at the time, so I swapped it. That is one trade that I now regret!
I like the old k mags and have 7 of them.
I've been hunting with a 52" ILF for the last 2 years. for a 26" draw, It is a perfect sniper bow. I'm shooting a 530 gr. arrow at 46# @ 26" in the mid 170's fps.
I had a 48" Rocky Mountain Recurve 57@26. I loved that bow. I had to sell it because it was too heavy for me after I hurt my shoulder.
I have a 52" Cascade Nighthawk Magnum that is very smooth. Very good stand or blind bow. Just had it dipped in Predator Brown Deception.
If you have the time look around for a Shawn Petersen "Redtail" , I have one that's either 52 or 54" and is a fantastic short bow .
Fred
james parker bamboo nomad is my go to bow.
I have a Bear Supermag 48" 45# that's sweet handling in tight spots. Also like my Pearson Predator 50# also at 48" or 50", can't remember the exact length. Both alder bows frm the 70's.
I really like my Chek-Mate Cascade (62#@28" AMO 52"). It is very smooth and no finger pinch. Plus it hits hard and is more accurate than I am.
You can find a few short RC reviews on my trad review pages at www.peteward.com (http://www.peteward.com)
Rodney Wright 46" stalker, Dan Toelke 's 52" RC, come to mind as well as the Sheepeater Spirit.
There are some short longbows there too.
Pete
no one has a little suckling??
Another one here for the Cascade Golden Hawk magnum. 52# 60#@29, it's capable of a lot more than me, love it that much , I have a picture of it in my wallet :biglaugh:
Cheers
I have to go with my old Bear k-mag
For a short bow its hard to beat a K Mag
48" Cascade Golden Hawk Mag
I have both the kt 44 and the Cascade 52" Night Hawk. I would go with the 52" bow as it shoots faster and smoother than the 44" bow. But the KT44 is fun to shoot. The Cascade with the phenolic riser is a very stable bow to shoot. Thank's granpa.
Rodney wright stalker recurve 46" .... .just my two cents
