Well just had a Pecan tree cut down and the rain started. Tomorrow I'll be getting some piece to send to raging Water so He can make some Bolt Nubs for take down Bows. I'll also try and have some cut for riser wood. The pieces are about 15"+/-.

After I get some picked out and de-barked I'll ruff cut them in half and do a Give away. I'll start out with giving away 5 pieces to 5 winners (1 each). After that and picking out some for My smoker and some for some friends if I have more left over I'll do another handle wood give away.

Sal,

Have you considered sealing the ends of these pieces to prevent checking (unwanted splitting)?

Varnish, paint, or even glue can do the job, but is needs to happen right away. Cracks will start showing up in a day or two...

Just a thought.

Yes, I'll be doing that in the Morning when I pick them out and start to de-bark them. Then I'll bring them inside to start to dry.

I got 4 pieces in the shed and I sealed the ends. I'll let that dry some then I'll de-bark it, cut them and then let them dry some more.

Wow, good response so far. Just to let everyone know these will be half round. The reason being the bigger piece that can be cut to square are a little to be for my small table top band saw. Also don't feel that You have to use these as bow handle wood. You can use them for anything, tip overlays, knife handles, file handles, just to name a few other things or even things I didn't mention.

Well, I was about to start cutting the small logs to get them ready for shipping to the lucky 5. I started cutting one and my table top bans saw started smoking from the motor.

Going to put the give away off for now till I can get a table circler saw or a Axe to split them down to size for shipping..

I hope everyone isn't to made at me for this.
