Title: Black glass/ Brown Glass
Post by: MSwickard on February 23, 2010, 04:29:00 PM
Was wondering if anyone has a bow or photos of one that has black glass on the back and brown on the belly.  My number is close on a John McCullough Griffin and looking at going old school.  Putting all the fun stuff in the riser.

Thanks

Mike

black back, brown belly just seems the right old school way to go.

Thanks for the comments guys.  One other reason I am pondering this combo is the black glass on the back will work well from a blind.  Having the brown on the belly will give it contrast when in the field.  The two glass colors does remind me of those 50's glass bows.

I got a comment back and was wondering do you all think using two different colored glasses on a bow would make it look cheap?

I have a Black Widow LAG that ias grey on the back, brown on the belly. It's not the glass, vbut the stain on the limbs. It looks great!

I don't think it would look cheap at all.I think it could look really cool with the right combination.

I planning on black glass on back, brown glass on belly.  Riser will be kingwood w/a purpleheart I-Beam and it would have overlays at the back on belly of the riser. Maybe incorporate some osage in the overlays? Something like that but let John do his magic.

I think it would look fine......classy even.  I'm a fan of colored glass; black, brown, gray, green, and even Herter's mustard yellow 8^).

Classic. My 59 Kodiak Bears are brown on the back and Autumn orange on the belly. 59 Alaskans are black on the back and orange on the belly.

If you want "traditional" go with colored glass.  I love it.  I don't think the black/brown combo would look "cheap" at all butI guess that's everyone to his own opinion. One of my favorite longbows is a Howard Hill built when John Schultz was making them--a Tembo with black glass on the back and white on the belly.  That was a common combination at one time. That bow shoots so sweet!

I had a Turkey Creek with osage riser and brown glass.  It was a sweet looking bow.  I like black glass the best.  I think black back with brown belly would be sweet.

BIG fan of the contrasting colored glass on a bow ala Bear bows. Can't go wrong IMO.

I have a 1958 longbow with yellow on the back, white belly. Maple core and it all ties together in a very nice look.
