I have been putting in for my moose permits in ME the past few years with no luck(as expected), this year I am also putting in for NH and VT to up my odds a little bit.
I have some good info on NH, but have no ideas where I should start looking to find the best areas(wmu's) in VT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not looking for someone to give up a honey hole, just an idea where to start or who to talk to.
Also any tips any of you moose veterans have would be great. This would be my first hunt for them. I know my gear is up to the task and i don't mind working hard to reach a goal, but I'm sure there are plenty of things I'll never think of that could really help me out.
-Thanks

you'll have better chances drawing a tag from Maine...

Northeast kingdom units will have better chances.(D1,D2,E,H1,H2)And better hunting areas.
If you do draw a tag for units L or P don't be afraid to get in contact with me.I know them fairly well. It's your first year puting in so you'll probably get one in one of the units I put in for like everyone else.(My 4th year putting in) :knothead: :banghead:

Greg,
Stop by FAS on a Saturday if you get a chance. I've been doing the moose lottery in just about all the available states and NB for many moons now (skipping the western states the last few years). Bring one of your sticks and we'll kill two birds with one stone.

I hunted moose in northern nh in 2007,and ended up taking a 600 lb cow.My advice will apply if you are going to quarter and pack out your moose.I know some states require you to take the animal out whole.Get yourself a pack frame and a good meat/bone saw.I used a wyoming saw. Also a half dozen mesh game bags will come in handy to keep the meat clean. We also used black pepper on the meat to keep the flies off.Last and most important is make sure to bring plenty of fresh drinking water or gatorade to keep hydrated. It is a huge job but very worth it.Good Luck, Bob

VTmtnmn has it right about the best units. I drew a D2 cow only tag in '04. I had hunted that area for years and had a pretty good spot. Lots of moose. I saw 7 bulls and 3 cows but never got in bow range on the cows. Whichever unit you draw, check with any local maple syrup producers, they'll beg you to come shoot any moose in there area. They wreck havoc in the sugar lines.
