Title: Testers for POC Reparrows
Post by: Jim now in Kentucky on February 22, 2010, 09:50:00 AM
Hey all, I want a half dozen people to try a new version of my Reparrows.

I have always made them of hardwood, but some people have said they want to repair an arrow to as close to original weight as possible. And one archer in England said his association wouldn't let him use his repaired arrows in a tournament because the cherry or walnut Reparrow constituted an aid to aiming.

These are 11/32, POC and are 2-1/4 inches long instead of the 3-15/16 length I have made in the hardwoods. I want to get your input on whether this is a good length to just repair an arrow broken just behind the taper--not to create the effect of a hardwood footing.

Please PM me if you have a POC or spruce arrow that is broken right at the back of the point and would be willing to try this experiment.

This pix shows the difference in length from the standard Reparrow. Thanks. Jim

please resize all posted images no wider than 640, thank you.

Jim,
I finally used the last of my maple reparrows I got at the Poke~N~Hope a couple of years ago. I would love to try the POC version. Got two broken ones from this past weekend at Durham to test with.

Thanks,

Kevin

Jim,

If they work half as good as the purpleheart one's I think you've got another winner.  I bought some several years ago and they have been going strong on a couple of POC and lodgepole pines.  I was a little skeptical at first but after several years I am a believer.

I have used a bunch of your reparrows arrows and really like them. Don't need any POC ones but wish you made then in hickory. Lots of weight and will blend in with what ever normal white wood shaft is used for an invisible repair.

BobW, not planning to discontinue the longer ones. Just seeing if there are folks who just want to repair a shaft to match the rest of a set.

3-15/16 length is his current production size.  I use them on the nock end (then hidden under a wrap) to make 34"-35" arrows... At 32", I'm short drawing....

Got mine yesterday and repaired two arrows already. I'll stain them to match and feather sand the joint next week and I'll be back to a full dozen.

BTW, once they were cut to length and tapered, weights were exactly the same as before I broke them. Jim has a winner here!!

Just got my test pieces and put 2 of them on 2 arrows. I had a old cedar arrow and I placed one on there, I also placed a cherry one on a a ash arrow I had broke at the point. Right now waiting for the glue to cure. Tomorrow I'll be testing them to see how they hold up to a few shots, then I need to find my stain and stain/seal them.

So far I the cedar's are about the right length for a fix job. Very well made.
