Title: Toughest 2 blade broadhead 150 grain
Post by: Predator Man on February 19, 2010, 05:33:00 PM
Looking for a really good screw in head (or glue on with adapter) that's total weight will be close to 150 grain give or take a few grain. Checked out the old google search and the older threads on here and it seems most of the ones I really like are much heavier than I want to shoot.   :banghead:     Opinions and pictures welcome... thanks.

what about ussing with an adapter of some sort?
for exmpl: a magnus II 125 grain glue on and a 26 grain adapter? plus if you do it that way it makes putting your BH at what ever angle you want easy.

build it yourself. 42grn adaptor + 100 grn point = 142+/-

I definately will use a glue on with an adapter if I could make the weight equal out.  I am not a firm believer that those magnus 125's are very tough though.

Zwicky no mercy has a single bevel in a 130 grain glue on. I have personaly shot this head in doing some testing a found it to be very very tough head! Takes some time to get a good hunting edge but once sharp it stays.

Eclipse makes a 145gr head that is beyond tough.

Check out the Centaur site and watch the video of Jim shooting his broadheads into a concrete block (Not cinder block) and a 55 gallon drum repeatedly.

Impressive, and I will be getting some to try on some turkeys this spring.

The steelforce 145 gr. phathead qualifies as tough but has some small bleeder blades that may be removable to make a 2 blade.Steel ferrule and thick .080 main blade.Its a little stubby though.I like the thick main blade though.

I like stinger 150s with thier diamond tip alot in a 2 blade screw in.

Zwickey Eskilite with adapter is right at 145 grains.. I've used them for years and years... No issues what so ever.  My "go to" broadheads...

Stinger 150s, both 2 blade and with bleeders are super tough. Eclipse would be my glue on choice.

Hill's are 160, and they speak for themselves.

Predator Man,
what issues do you have with the Magnus 125s?

I have eclipse 125 with a short glue on adapter come to 145. I have shot them into everything and don't bend, but if they do they have guarantee from manufacturer I believe

Check out the samurai by Alaska bow hunting supply. It comes in a 150grn version so you don't have to screw with things "to make it work", follows every design suggestion by Dr Ashbey and in my own tests vastly out performed every stamped tin broad head tested including the Magnus, eclipse, Eskimo and no mercy. I still use magnus or zwickeys....on ducks, but for anything over 300 pounds the samurai is my broad head of choice. In fact the Magnus and the Eskimo both had rolled over tips from a drop of 3 feet onto a oak plank!

I have found that the STOS is a very tough head.

I like the Zwickeys because IMO they are extremely tough; but you might also try to find some old Bear Razorheads which are 145 grains and I promise you it will be hard to top those tried and trued BHs;

I don't know what arrow material you are using but if you are using carbon, then try your brass inserts as they have performed very well with me;
good luck........  :campfire:

Lots to chose from and I sure wouldn't quibble about 10 or 15 grains one way or the other.

I'm still using 160 grain Ribteks with great results. An extremely tough head, easy to sharpen, and inexpensive.

Magnus makes two good ones, the 150 Stinger/Buzzcut and the 140 traditional screw ins which would be very close.

I agree with whipbow, the eclipse with a short adapter is hard to beat.

I'd also throw Abowyer BHs in there as well, they have a 145gr model. NOT double bladed though.
