I am using a Jo-Jan jig to fletch some arrows. I have done vanes with a slight ofset before, but not feathers.
Q1. the feathers I have curve to the right. That is when I look at them with the nock end in my hand and the tip end pointing up, the tip curves to the right. Are these right or left hand feathers. Bought so long ago I don't remember what I got.
Q2. I am using straight clamps that I was going to off-set. With these feathers which way do I off set them, L or R.
thanks for any and all input.
Sounds like right wing feathers to me. Set them with some right offset and you'll be fine. (make the tip set to the right of the base.)
Thanks, that was what I was thinking, just wanted to check first. Do they need much off-set or will a little do the trick.
An arrow ill spin with a straight fletch and no offset because of the curvature of the feather. Adding a little offset will increase the spin. You will have to figure what amount, if any, works best for you. I use between 1/8" and 3/16" on my arrows with 5 1/2" high profile shield cut.
If you will be hunting with these arrows test with and without your hunting point.
Thanks Pat. These are just going to be for stumping and chasing bunnies in real tough stuff. Basically throw away arrows. But will be doing some rose shoot hunting arrows soon so the practice is good.
What side is the shiny side or top of the feather on? If it on the left side they are left wing...opposite for right wing.
Mike
Straight offset fletch is very effective for what you are doing. Offset to the right as they are RW.
If the lip(bottom) on the feather is on the right when looking from the rear it is LW and opposite for RW.Then you want to offset to the left for LW and Right for RW.
Left wing on the left and right wing on the right
