So yesterday afternoon I went up on yonder mountain to check ye olde trail cam for hog pics. As I was walking up an old logging road, I saw a redtail hawk jump off the ground and take flight, about 75 yards up, and just off the side of the trail. I immediately saw it had a fresh kill in it's talons. It flew straight down the trail, about 40 feet up, and was on track to go right over my head. When it saw me at about 40 yds it startled, swerved, and brushed some branches with its legs. In doing so it dropped this guy almost at my feet.

I couldn't help but wonder if God wanted me to have squirrel for dinner. :D I snapped the pic, and put the meal back down deciding the rightful owner should claim it. So for all of you over on the supernatural thread, what do you make of it? Anyone who knows me knows I'm always looking for God (the spiritual) in these things.

Cool experience. God is everywhere, glad to hear your looking for him. Seems like you already know him.

Very cool!

Cool. Wonder if the hawk came back for it?

Have been seeing a lot more hawks around here in VA. Started last fall. By far my favorite thing to see, watch in the woods. I mean besides that big 250 lb 10 point everyone keeps telling me about. lol

I just now noticed the distict beak marks perpenticular to the spine on the squirrels left side (right in the pic). I suppose that's where he did the squirrel in. Looks like it only took two chomps. That's cool!

Man how awesome was that.

My signature tells you how I feel about God. As for your experience: If you are out in the woods enough, you will see things no one believes with out pics. That's a cool one.

That is way cool.

That is a wonderful sight. I watched a falcon dine on a black snake ten feet from me yesterday. The falcon let me watch for a long time. Even let me sit down without flying away. Depending on the hawk the squirrel is probably about as big of a prey that it can take down and fly off with. If there is a message I would think it is "Don't bite off more than you can chew". There are lots of raptors in this part of FL right now that have flown south.

Thats way cool

That's pretty cool!

Looks like a left single bevel beak with the proper length to width ratio!!

I got to watch the beginning of last deer season, She was a beautiful red-tail hawk that would have been born last spring. She did me the favor of landing about in a tree about 10ft in front of me and staying for about 20 minutes and preening her-self. I know this because I studied falconry and that was something I had to learn.
Also awesome story and God was allowing you to be a part of his amazing creation that day.

Very cool. I once saw a high-speed chase of a large wedge-tailed eagle (at least five foot wingspan) pursuing a pair of wallabies through the savannah. The eagle didn't win, but he sure came close; he had to jink through the trees too much, and so they lost him.
