Title: Selway slide on vs detachable
Post by: sshntr on February 16, 2010, 09:10:00 PM
I love the selway slide on quivers because they are so solid, but I don't like to take them on and off to use my tube case for my longbow.  Are the detachable ones as solid as the slide ons and are they much easier to take on and off?

I have had great luck with the slide-on quivers.  Conversely, I had a detacheable and it absolutely would not stay put on my bows.

I just took off a slide on Selway from my recurve last night. My friend showed me a trick were you use a bit of water and dish soap on the limb, once you get the quiver started it slips right off.  Rinse the soap off and towel dry and the job is done.  I don't own a detachable quiver but know people who really like the ones with the rubber strapping (Thunderhorn & Kanati).

I own one and love it.  It has been really good to me, no problems of sliding or anything like that.  Every once in a blue moon it will slide down like a hair, but you just push it back up and tighten it up.  I have a bolt on now and like that better, but that is only becuase the bolt on it far lighter.  One thing I didnt like about it, but got used to is the knobs hangin on the sides, they just didnt look good, it was simply a looks thing, they didnt get in the way or anything

THERE GOOD IF YOU WANT TO TAKE IT OFF IN A STAND OR BLIND WITHOUT UNSTRINGING YOUR BOW.

I own both. I really like the slide on and it looks a lot better than the detachable model with it's big screw on knob.

I have heard bad things about the detachable one. I own and use both the recurve and longbow slide on models though and they are great.

I've used both but sold the detachable one.  It is ugly and bulkier than I like although it was easy to put on and take off.  I really like the slide-on models...rock solid and quiet.  The water and small amount of dish soap works well for putting on the slide-on model...which if you get, I'd plan on leaving on the bow.  Honestly, if you want a removeable quiver, I don't think you can beat the GN strap-on.  I stayed away from those for years because I thought they looked "flimsy" but that couldn't be further from the truth...once I tried one I was hooked.  Nowdays, if I am going to use a longbow mounted quiver, it's the GN strap-on.

If I go back to using a bow-quiver for some reason, it'll be a Selway slide-on. They are rock-solid and dependable.

I have had both and out of both I would say that I like the detachable I don't have to unstring my bow to take off the quiver. I like the kanati and also the thunderhorn. Been looking at 3 rivers mini boa.

The slide on was my first quiver. I liked it ok, but if I wanted it off it was a pain. I tryed some others. Now I have a great northern bolt on and my latest is the EFA totem quiver. IMO this is a great all around quiver that is rock solid light wieght and easy to remove and put back on for travel.

I have the selway quick detach and I would not recommend taking off this particular quiver in a stand as you would likely drop one of the screw on caps or rubber washers.  I also usually snug up the screw caps occasionally while in the field.  I tried a great northern adjustable last season and am impressed with its stability and ease of installation.  I would trade two of my quick detach selways for one great northern.

I have used both and I think that the slide on stays in place alot better than the quick detach.
