Post by: Kenny Henderson on February 15, 2010, 10:18:00 AM
Hey guys I'm interested in doing a diy hunt in georgia or perhaps florida. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of some public ground?

Most of the public land hog hunting in Florida happens as a concurrent season with deer or small game.  Even though you can technically hunt hogs year round, the management areas are closed for hunting outside of those established seasons.  There are few exceptions.  Most of te small game seasons are wrapping up.

A couple of WMAs that are worth you researching for next year are Goethe and Half Moon.  Go to myfwc.com to start your search.

Its the same way in Alabama.  Lowndes Co. Management Area has a spring hog hunt.  Also the Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge has a spring hog hut, bow only.

GA is the same way as well, only till the end of Feb on public ground as long as they have a small game season, but year round on private land.

you can hunt them again in GA when turkey season comes in. that is around the middle of march. the only two wmas that i hunt are in the middle eastern part of the state and both have a decent population of hogs. one is called redlands wma, and the other i'm not positive what it's really called, but we always call it little river wma. i will be glad to help if you want to hunt in the wmas in my area, just let me know
