I just ordered a couple bowfishing arrows.I've got a ton of new loose points. How do you guys usually mount them on the shafts?Waterproof epoxy or something?
Enlighten me fellas.
I use Gorilla glue to attach the heads to the fish arrow.
I use the two part epoxy and sometimes drill a small hole and drive a tight fitting metal pin through the point and shaft. The epoxy seems to fail after 7 or 8 years of abusive use. It usually starts turning a yellow color as it gets older.
2 part epoxy will do the trick. I don't use roll pins as they will weaken the shafts and when shooting rocky areas you stand a better chance of breaking a shaft.
I do like to roughen the end of the shaft w/ sandpaper prior to installing tip w/ the epoxy.
I use 2 part 5 minute epoxy as well. What kind of points did you get? I like the Sur-shot. It releases a little different than the muzzy so if you don't get a pass thru you can just twist your arrow and the barbs will reverse. A muzzy you'll have to drive thru the fish so you can get at the tip. There's other good tips as well, but those are the two I have used.
VTer,
I actually prefer the Shure-Shot Penetrator to the Muzzy just for that reason -- the way they release. Don't get me wrong; Muzzy makes a great bowfishing head. But I like not having to shove my arrow all the way through a big gar just to release the barbs.
In addition, Shure-Shot has a lifetime free barb replacement guarantee.
As far as point attachment, I use two-ton epoxy and occasionally pin the heads.
Greg I bought a lot of stuff off Fleabay a while ago and got a box of unsed cheap(Maybe they're not cheap...just older stock good ones? The head unscrews and the wire barb comes out so you can slide the fish off the arrow) fish points in it.I figured I'd get some arrows and mount them up and use them,as they've just been sitting here.I also have two older in the pack Cajun archery tips to use as well.
I like the Idea of epoxy then pinning them.Seems that the glue would get weak over time and pop off due to being in the water and whatnot.Maybe I'm concerned over nothing but I think I will drill a tiny hole and pin them for good measure.
You going to try the CT river?
