Winter seems to drag on for some folks here in the north, however, i find myself spending a lot of time outside with each new winter.
Woke up this morning and decided to do a little stump shooting. Grabbed the snow shoes since we have a good two feet plus on the ground, and dressed my 'second wife' (my German shorthair). We have had the crazy fog the past couple days and the woods were beautiful. Thought you might enjoy a few pics of this early Minnesota morning. Oh ya, not alot of stump shooting since everything was under the snow, but still a great time spent out.

I used to love winter,,, but no more. We are expecting yet another snow storm tonight into Sunday.
Can someone turn on spring? LOL
Beautiful pics. Thankyou for taking us with you.

I love about thirty days of it....that's enough.
There is only one thing to not love about winter,
and that is the lack of stumps..
Otherwise, winter is mindblowingly beautiful!
Crispy clean, white serenity..
I used to love it too, now I like the fall and spring. Supposed to get more snow Sunday and into Monday as well.
ME, ME, Oh I do
Born & raised in Houston & still haven't got used to the skin scorching summers here. Spent a year (1981-82) in Denver & loved it. The weather that is. Coldest in 50 years they said.
I'm with George! Jason
BEAUTIFUL pictures Treavor!!
I love winter too. I have lived in central NY all my life except for a few years while in the service. I enjoy the change of seasons but there is nothing like getting outside in the winter to stump shoot, small game hunt or a host of other activities to keep you fit and on your toes!
It was indeed a beautiful morning here in MN today the best of the season.
But love winter NOT HARDLY.
DD
I do NOT like winters. The older I get the harder the cold seems to be on me. It has got to the point that I am trying to talk the company I work for into a transfer to another location. The main criteria for the move would be warmer!
I love winter , right up to December 26, and it's time for it to go. at least the days are getting longer and it's ligth to around 6:30.
Can“t see that "white dirt" anymore.
My snowpusher is broken and the snow thrower too...
But the children are happy, good skiing, good tobogganing.
So I am patient.
When I was younger, I didn't mind it. Now I find myself hoping for it to be over.
The older I get the more I hate it, wished I had the funds to winter in Florida,Texas or Arizona, maybe I will win the Powerball tonight so I can go,
I guess I'm bass-ackwards as usual, I find myself less tolerant of heat and humidity as I get older, but I do love winter. We just need to talk to our friends in the logging industry about leaving taller stumps, the ones that are out there now can't be found under all this "global warming". :saywhat:
Well I had better get used to it (was what I was told when I moved north). Love it...hmmmmm. I love the summers here all two months of them.
Getting 20+ hours of daylight for four months is nice....but the winters are long and they are getting on my wifes nerves.
Don't know how much longer I can keep her here either.
I do love the remoteness and the lack of ppl...not that I don't like ppl but i don't need to see thousands of them everyday.
Would love to live in a place that we could hunt more often. We have many critters here that we can't hunt because of trappers rights.
There are many foxes - lynx Bison that i would love to get with an arrow, but they are protected...actually our red squirrels are protected because they are fur bearing and trappers can utilize them (wierd).

I find myself each year liking the cold less and less, but the last couple of years I've been using my snowshoes more and more and I really seem to enjoy that more than I ever have. Like this morning, I was out for a couple of hours, managed to trash an arrow on a "slightly more frozen than I thought" stump, but for once didn't lose any in the snow, so that was a plus. Also, moving around on snowshoes makes the cold seem "not so bad". All that being said, I'd still prefer the fall season over the rest of the year, but mother nature is still the boss.
I remember when I was pre-teen and started to bum out about the weather (winter). It somehow dawned on me after a few days of this that life (especially MY life) was going to be a long constant disappointment if I continued to choose to lament the season rather than embrace it. And point of view, of course, has made all the difference.
And I thank my Dad for setting the example. In 50 years, I NEVER heard that man complain about the weather or the season.

I really like winter now that I'm snowbirding in Arizona. 70 degrees today; it's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.
Winter is great, but I know others might be in a world of hurt when a place like East Texas gets a heavy dose of snow!
I like winter, not the best, but as old as I'm getting I love having a go at all the seasons. Got lucky today and had a beautiful stumping day. Mud, snow and SUNSHINE.
When I was younger I skied, snowmobiled, and ice skated. Absolutely loved winter.
Thirty five years later I have a bum knee and sore back. Today I shoveled, plowed, and ran the snow blower 'til it croaked. Can't say I enjoy winter much anymore.
I love Fall but could do without long winters. Widow
Count me in...I do love winters. Of course, my job is in a large storage cooler, so I'm kind of used to lower temps. You can have any temps over 70 as far as I'm concerned. I honestly clean other peoples sidewalks when the snowblower comes out! I have fun with it, and my neighbors love me. Or better yet, break out the snowshoes for a few hours. You'll usually have the serenity of the woods all to yourself.

I love that too. In the woods quiet, my bow, some judos, some broadheads and a few scared bunnies as I snowshoe along.
The snow is great. The wind I could do with out though. HA HA
I hate it. I have only one arrow left...
Winter is great,I would love to move further north.
Maybe someday.
I've living in Michigan my whole life, aside froma 5 yr stint in the USN. I was stationed in southern California, and by the time I got out, I could not wait to get home, the thing I missed more than anything was the change of seasons.
So. Cal. had 2, Early and Late concrete jungle season.
Winters in my part of the state arent all that bad, really the only thing I don't like is commuting to work when the snow is flying. Its not the snow that bothers me though.
We get a stretch of frigid cold temps in Jan and sometimes Feb, but other than that its pretty tolerable. A little small game hunting, some ice fishing and when its nasty out, its a good time to build arrows or tie up crawler harnesses for spring walleye fishing.
Winter is what you make of it.
I wouldn't mind winter as much if we had more snow....all we've had mostly is cold and wind.
A MILD winter is fine with me.
Snow and cold for a time, but just enough to appreciate nice weather.
Hang in there guys and gals...daylight is getting longer, and the sun is getting stronger.
Soon cycle 1 will be here, then the 4th of July,
then Thanksgiving, and then we will be having the same discussion. Don`t wish away the days, even the cold ones. They move too fast on their own.

Right on, brother. I say give me all the snow I can handle from the first day of bow season through Dec. 25. Then, I'm gonna recommend Spring begins on Dec. 26 with temps in the 70s F.
Now who do I see about gettin' this done?!?  ;)
I gotta say, that I still love it. I have somewhat of an out door job, and it doesn't bother me a bit.
the best time of the year and i love it!!
I miss it sometimes living here in the south. But this was today, and my 2 sons getting a little retribution! I'm sure I asked for it!!

Come on Spring!!
I can dress for the cold, They won't allow me to do that for the heat.
I love Winter!!!! :readit:
Well put Bowferd!!! :notworthy:
Anyone over 250#
You got a point Biggie, I float between 240 and 260!
Can't turn off or dial up the weather..learned as a young boy to accept and attack the cold and the snow..."In your face kind of"
Now as I approach my 67th yr. I increasingly find the solitude of the woods and a snowy day to be peaceful, inviting and timeless.
I like looking at these winter pics, but I will keep this 99 degree,100 percent humidity, any day..and not to forget our state bird mr. misquito.God bless the South...
I love the seasons and winter is no exception. Warm temps will be here soon enough, so we try to enjoy winter to its fullest.

And of course, there's digging forts, building snowmen, sledding, and snowball fights. Spring will be here soon enough. :)
About 6-8 weeks of winter is okay, but these 6 month long winters we have here are too much. I'm lookin' for a new place to hang my hat. The elk hunting is nice but that's only a few weeks out of the year.
