Title: Full draw pics
Post by: Robert Honaker on February 13, 2010, 12:36:00 PM
Let's see'um! Aint a whole lotta things in this world prettier. I know of a couple "curves" that are prettier, but that's another story.

I'm going out to see if I can finnagle a way to take one of mine without a tripod. Back shortly.

PS. State your brand of bow please.
Had it on a timer, caught me halfway once.lol JK Chastain Wapiti

Hey Broketooth,
That arrow looks like the top half of a pool cue with feathers.  Did you ever see one fly?  I like to hear more about them.....kinda cool.  Sorry, I don't want to hijack the thread but maybe you can start another.

That one is 66" which (I now know) may be a tad short for my 29" draw.  Should have gone for a 70" one - maybe next time.   :D

Title: Re: Full draw pics
Post by: Charlie Lamb on February 13, 2010, 09:21:00 PM
Kenny... it was a little Sony 5 megapixel pocket camera. Super little camera that took great pics. They discontinued that model.

All the Sony stuff is great, though!

I also take all my photos that I put up on TradGang to Photoshop and adjust brightness and contrast.

vermonster13 your Black Swan bow caught my eye. My 1st thought as I looked at the curves in that lower limb was that "it could pass for a snakey bow". I don't know why but it reminded me of some of my old favorite character Osage selfbows.

Good picture, Thanks for sharing.

broketooth-
I didn't grow up in Belgium. I've been an Illinois resident my whole life, but a bunch of my childhood and teen years were spent in the Belgian part of town. My dad is the son of two Belgian immigrants (sp?), so I'm 1/2 Belgian. I grew up shooting pop n jay archery. To answer Kenny's question I found my reply to another thread to help explain that big blunt arrow your grandpa is shooting.

That is an old tapered blunt arrow for popinjay archery. All us Belgians know that.  We had this old dude name Maurice that made his own, though they weren't quite that fat on the end, and his were also fluted! All wood except for a thick phenolic ring glued to one end. I remember them to be gorgeous arrows. He shot a lemonwood selfbow with horn knocks, and I don't think he ever missed by more than 1/2"! (I might add that he was about 80 years old at the time) You were basically trying to knock a "bird" off of a rack of steel pins or rods, about 20 yards away. The original game was shooting to knock "birds" off a vertical mast, but it can be set up horizontal too. You can do searches, but here's a pic of what we used to shoot at.  http://www.belgianhall.ca/clubs/index.php  You had to hit the pin, just in front of a peanut sized plug that was tapped onto the pin to knock the bird off. Simple... knock the bird off and win some money! A round would last until the top 5 birds on that rack were knocked off. In my day, the small birds were worth .50, the kalles were worth .75, sides worth about 1.50 (depending on # of shooters) and the top bird was $2.00 or more. At the end of the night, we'd have a king shoot. Everyone paid X-$ to shoot at the top bird and the first to knock it off won the pot. Everyone who paid got to shoot. If more than one knocked it off, there'd be a tie breaker round. There were, and still are tournaments where you shoot for score though. Back then, the most durable arrows we shot for this sport were microflites. It took a lot to ruin one of those.

Here's one from a while back. My hunting partner when we were both teenagers. We used to hunt a lot on his Grandparents farm for rabbits. One evening there was a nice sunset so I told him to jump up on the rock and strike a pose - and this was the result. I think it was taken in 1991. Jeff used a ben Pearson #45 @ 28 back then, a nice little longbow. Image is scanned from photo.

Quotejust wondering without any better knowledge, why cant i find Rons name in Bowhunters hall of fame?
I had the honor of being inducted into the Michigan Bowhunters Hall of Fame in 2005, a privilege I am very proud of.

Here's a Trad Gang link.

QuoteRon, one of the pictures showed is you shooting with Glenn St. Charles, am I right??
Yes that's Glenn. I don't recall the year but it was at the Cloverdale shoot. I titled the picture,
"Glenn St.Charles giving me a shooting lesson."

I find it interesting all the different shooting forms

Bow arm bent - Bow arm locked - Facing the target - Standing sideways - Standing straight up - Bent at the waist - bow canted - bow vertical

Don't see all those positions from compound shooters at 3D shoots.

Jerry your pictures brought back some wonderful memories for me! Thank you!
One particular memory jumped into my mind.
I had Woog in the back pack and was trying to stalk up on a small group of does I saw on an inner field planted in winter wheat.
Woog was being quiet so I thought it was all good. All of a sudden she starts jumping up and down and yelling "Papa! Deer! Papa! Deer!"...lol needless to say, the jig was up..

What a great day in the woods with my daughter. I can bet I know the feelings that go through your mind all the time.

Thanks again for sharing something so precious to you.
God bless,Mudd
