Thanks a lot for posting up the pictures guys!! I'm taking two bows when we go...one is my BP rogue...50lbs at my draw shooting a 600 gr arrow tipped with Magnus IIs...I was just wanting to see everybody's set up to make myself feel a little better about taking it!! lol...
And my second bow is a Zona Custom that is coming this week...it's 57lbs at my draw and shooting a 625 gr arrow with 150 gr 4bld buzzcuts...so hopefully this will slay some hogs!! :^)
I have been shooting 530-550gr arrows out of 50lb@27" bows killed lots of hogs last several years using two blades up to 1.5" wide.
Some great Pics
Nothing as fun as Hunting hogs for me.
Good luck on your hunt Coty, take plenty of pics and let us know how you got on.
Biggie- that is the biggest...... Tree behind you! Where is that?
55# bows. I always use multiple blade heads. This 1st pic shows why.

My biggest boar taken with 55# Black Widow and Woodsman broadhead.
Very nice pig 8888blk!! Congratulations!! Is that a full shot glove that you have on? I have one on the way and hopefully I will like it!!
Coty
So a stupid question. What does wild pig or boar taste like? Normal pig? Normal pig but with a wild taste to it? We do not have wild pigs here in Nova Scotia.
you guys are making my mouth water, I'm going to Ray Hammonds place in march for a little pig sticking, this is tourture!!! :D
The full shot glove is by far my favorite, well worth the extra $. I have two of them, one i've been shooting for 3 years now. They break in quick and last a long time. I also think they provide more comfort and protection by covering 90% of your hand.
Thanks for the input 8888blk!! I think that I will really like it!! I'm going to be using it on my heavy bows...
I gotta find me some hogs to hunt!! I need to start researching some places a little south of me in Ga.
Here's some I took in the last year. Most are not all that big because I prefer the little ones (they eat way better that the big ones) These were all shot with a Sarrels bow; either recurve or longbow. I switch it up from time to time.:

Nice group, eh Thomas?
Hey Frenchy, that middle pic is a very cool looking pig. Is that a feral hog or more of a bushpig?
QuoteOriginally posted by Biggie Hoffman:

Hello Mr Hoffman
it's not a feral hog, there are no feral hog in France exept in the island of Corsica
sometimes i 'm dreaming about feral hogs ...
we just have natural wild boar "sus scrofa", what you call i think "russian boar",they have 36 chromosomes and the feral hog 38 like the pigs
Wild board, When they are very young and still dependent to the "mother" they are completly striped and very small, after that when they are growing after 6 month they become "brown-redish" we call that "bete rousse" that mean "red hair beast" after this step they become black when grey hair when they are very old. You don(t shoot the stiped one but when they are "red hair beast" you can and it's a good thing because like that you preserve your wild game capital
a "marcassin" picture (under 6 month)

a "red hair beast" (over six month)

Back up for some more pictures!!
How about some live piggie trail cam pics??? I am getting anywhere from 100-200 hog pictures a day over my feeders. I have a LOT of hogs on my place. There is one old super smart sow that is responsible for taking down my feeder, I liken her to a female Stripe from the Gremlins. One of these days, I will get her....

All this thread has done for me is tell me that we need to move to hog country! I love to hunt them when I can, but most of my "trips" are for other things. Would love to have the luxury of heading to the woods locally and have hogs on the agenda... Most of it around well everywhere I've lived is small game... Fun, but chasing the "poor man's grizzly" on a more routine basis would be awesome!
I jealous of a lot of you guys! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Awesome...looks like so much fun..
So I guy like me from Canada...what would I have to do to hunt them.
Could I get a licence? or do you have to go with a guide?
Is there hog hunting in june to aug?
Thanks Jer Bear

I know, I know..... Thanks Ray.
Here are three big pigs from Oz. I was shooting my buffalo setup so had more than enough horsepower for the pigs - 75lb Black Widow, 1080 gr arrow with modified 160 gr STOS head. These pigs went 10ft, 5ft, and 25 yards respectively after the shot.
These guys all had BIG cutters, but I don't have a good pic of the hog with the biggest tusks, he died on a meat ant nest and just getting the head was hard enough to deal with, forget the pics.
The trip to Australia was worth it just for the hogs!

Ryan, sorry we didn't get to talk at Kzoo.
Those pigs have some nice teeth. Is it true that those Aussies don't eat them?
Great pics everyone, sure wish I had a close place to hog hunt.
Dang Ray!! Your a hog Killing machine!!
hey dave maybe I will have to get one of those fancy cases for my PCH from black widow and take a trip on my Yammy this spring.

Ben, you Aussies got it great in the pig department!
Biggie - yep, when in Rome, you know...I got a story about (trying) to eat an Ozzie pig...I was going to shoot a little football sized pig we'd been seeing every day for Chef Brunner (the Short Guy) to cook up some 5-star meal with - he was gonna convert the Aussies on pig-eatin'. We (RicMic and I) snuck in on the carcass of my buffalo (out in the sun for 3 or 4 days...yeah, you can imagine that) and into the middle of a big hog fight, I was waiting for the victor to return to his prize (a big, stinky, pile of buffalo) when the little rooter (US slang, not the Aussie term ;) ) and his momma came in. Before I had a chance to get Chef Brunner his pig in a blanket the little fella bailed into the abdominal cavity of the defunct buffalo and started slurping it down. Right then I figured the Aussies knew more about eating those pigs than I did. The little guy got to enjoy his meal - and the last black boar in my pics above came in to chase off everybody else and got a STOS through the lungs. I don't think the little pig ever even crawled out of the gut pile to see what all the commotion was about.
R
i dont know if I can last for another two months until I get down to SC for some pig action, I guess ill have to try..... :D
what is your broadhead for hogs?
my setup I plan to use is a 47#@28 56# hoots recurve shooting Beaman MFX shafts with 175gr. woodsman elite broadheads, approx. arrow weight 500 gr., wich is a little heavier than my optimal 450 but they shoot very well.
any advice?
( I killed a doe with the woodsmans and they leave a heck of a blood trail, so I think I definitely want to use them on hogs.)is it beter to cut a lot and have less penetration, or to use a two blade to cut less but pass through?
I'm going to be using two blade magnus...Magnus IIs and Magnus Is...the Magnus Is with my adapters weigh in at 285 grains...They're some MACK DADDY HEADS!!

I've killed most of mine with Magnus II and STOS 2-bladers. Although I have had limited success with a Woodsman, I maintain that the real big boys, with shields and caked-mud, are best served with a 2-blader. I'd happily use a 6-blader on smaller pigs.

Ben,
I've GOT TO COME TO THE LAND DOWN UNDER, where women glow and men plunder!!!!
Those hogs are too much.
Yep, Ray, the pig hunting can be phenomenal at times, in certain places. Cape York is probably the best place, and there are two bowhunting guides who operate there (Mick Baker, who Andy is going to work for, and Pat Macnamara). I'd offer to take you, but our places run cold or warm, and we can never tell if we're going to see any or not. In between wins, there're a lot of dry spells. Mick and Pat have access to the best country for pigs.
I've already posted a photo of this pig, but here's the sequence that my mate, Tony, caught on film:
The boar coming toward us through the grass, groggy and hung-over from a big night out, I reckon...
The shot (we reckon the arrow must've just connected in this photo, but can't make it out for the grass [the pig is on the upper left of the photo, just a dark blur])...
The hit...

Paul, out of curiosity, what are the specs for your BWs, and what are the specs for your arrows?
Again, well-done on a top boar!
Thanks Ben - I miss those days hunting hogs in saltwater habitats - and my daughter is grown up now. In fact that gator page or two back came from about 30 miles from where we first discovered hog tracks on a sandy beach many years ago.
More pics coming

Hi ben, Both my Widows are 58# @28" arrows are Gt traditionals 75/95 with 100grn brass inserts which I drill out the back and tap so I can screw in another 40grains.
Outback supremes 125grn single bevel.
All pigs traveled less than 15m, the pig on the log was bedded stood up when shot and took one step and fell over.
This fella was shot from about 1 to 2 meters away.

Paul, one or two metres range is good hunting indeed! Of course, you'd run into the problem of the arrow not having yet reached full-speed ;) (I read that in a letter to the editor once in a magazine; you know, the rocket idea where the arrow keeps accellerating for the first ten yards or so after leaving the bow! :knothead: ).
Cory, do you still get the buffalo Silvertip out and onto the pigs these days? The mountain bike is a good idea.

Dang Cory how does one become a member of your hunting club??? It looks awesome...
Ben - just this morning I did bring out the 84# silvertip limb s out. I was doing some bare shaft testing on several bows and ended up in the shed. I do like those arrows - 2219 w a gold tip inside - 300 grain heads - nice match for hogs - and the bow is among the very best - dependable equipment for sure.

Great pictures everyone.
We sure are lucky to have a few pigs running around here in Australia to hunt. Here's a few I had on photobucket:

My cousin's first bow shot pig. He was a really old boar, skinny, covered in scars, blind in one eye with broken worn down tusks. Awesome.
Here's a few more
(http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b198/PaulRea/Pigs/100_1846.jpg)
To small to shoot, catching him was more fun. I think most of the enjoyment my son had came from seeing his old man bumbling around in the long grass trying to catch the greased hog. :biglaugh:

Same boar, arrowed while he was munching on a dead cow, with my son Lachlan watching. I guess the stench emenating from the boar didn't impress my son too much. :biglaugh:

I reckon pigs were made just so we could hunt them with the bow.
Paul R Some ripper hogs there mate!
Ben taking the pig at 1 to 2 m involved not stalking skills at all, I climbed over a big bolder on the dry creek bed and he was right below my feet bedded in the shade of the boulder, just lucky.

some of my larger hogs over the years since RC has got the piglets pretty much coverd ;) . All hogs , my same bow....66# Swamprooter 62" T/D i built in 96'.....only bow i shoot.
Rooty, inspired me to name my bows after him. 340# plus. Mounted him whole. Somethings a man has just got to do when their single. Served as the center piece for my den for years till i got married. Snuffer through and through both shields. File sharpened snuffer off a snuffer tamer then leather/rouge stropped...the only way!

Old man of the palmetos! 240# boar with barely a tooth in his head. This hog stole one of buddy's soul. Notice my Dreamland BBQ t-shirt...Thats what is proper hog hunting attire! 1 7/8" Silver flame through the shield an into the liver..

3 Stooges!...This boar screwed up and crossed our path. By the time i dove off Martys Buggy and climbed the ladder stand, dead 200#er in 12 minutes from running him off a feeder initially. Simmons right through the spine

RC... i heard a leak in the Ga Dept of Wildlife that they were going to have to put you on the first ever hog qouta for 2010 due to depredation of the hog population at Horse Creek.. Other hunters are starting to complain of lack of hog sitings.
Paul and Ben K I love seeing photos of bowshot pigs, you blokes posted some good ones and I just had to contribute some of my own to this great thread.
Excellent boars there Andy, I love hunting up the cape. Mick told me you blokes had a great time and shot a heap of pigs up there last year, well done.
Yep Ben M there are a couple of Texas, Queensland pigs there. I thought I recognised the sort of country in your photos.
I love that full boar mount Joebuck, great conversation piece and he sure was a big pig.

Hey Terry, what kind of set up are you using as far as bow poundage and arrow weight? Just curious.
60#-70# bows with 580 - 630 grain arrows.
Congrats  to all, great thread.
Terry,
Is your MOAB a 60" or 62"?
All my MOABs are 60".

Hey Terry I love the shot of the dead hog on the Range Rover rear deck.....classic. By the way how has it held up so far for you?
Biggie, no I didnt make boots from them but get a close look at Rays neat driving cap when you see him again. :saywhat:

Yes, I've have them since 99 and they have been very reliable for me during the last 10 years, and I really do use mine as intended. Did you see my whitetail pic on the back I posted a couple of years ago?...if not, let me know and I'll email it to ya....its definitely a classic.
OK....back to hog pics.....
Terry, How many of them things have you killed?? I can't wait to go to Ray H's in January......
Ron....Heck if I know. I'm not really a 'numbers' guy. I quit counting whitetails back in mid 90s.
The only number I can remember is I have one Zwickey 4 blade that killed 15 critters. 14 whitetails and one TX hog. Its one of the 'old blue' Zwickeys that were sold from a different color paint lot back in the 80s.

Terry,I like myself to use the same point for several different games, but never that many.LOL
Terry, I can let you have a few bucks if you need some more heads......

Danny did you catch him sleeping??? Nice hawg, bro'
Lol, no Ray, the Guam Hog was shot on a rainy day feeding under a soursap tree whth her buddies, shot was about 4 or 5 feet believe it or not, used a 64# Robertson Falcon and a GT 75/95 tipped with a 4 blade Mohawk Magnum I.
Of course you know the story on the SC hog. That was a great weekend by the way, wish I could make it back over there, used my 64# Brack Quest, AD Trad and a 4 blade 200 gr head, I forget the mfg .
The Texas hog was taken at Solana Ranch from a tree stand and the shot was 30 yards, she went 20 yards and keeled over dead. Did not look like 30 yards when I shot but stepped it off afterwards, used My 64# Quest again, AD Trad with 300 gr Extreme 3 blade, my go to head now.
Lol, Terry, yeah, they kinda step up in size don't they.
Any More  17 pages aint enough. :readit: :bigsmyl:
