I was going through some of are trail cam and field photo's from this past season and thought you guys might want to see some of the odd things we saw.
Lets start out with some weird growths or knots. We called this little buck "bubble butt", Check out the softball size growth behind his back leg.
This buck has a golfball size knot on his jaw from either a impacted tooth or something stuck in there. We named him "Nothead"
This buck is named "G2" a 4 year old that we have been watching and he showed up this year one day with this big growth on his side behind his front leg.
It was gone by the end of the season, Wonder what it was.

More tomorrow!!

Aliens? :D
How ya been Tracy?
All them weird growths, do you hunt near a toxic waste dump? Truly an interesting coincidence, makes me wonder what is happening to your deer.
I'll be out to take care of g2 or some other buck out there ;) :D Well at least scare 'em!!
? Crazy! Hap
I need to give you a call Kenny, I need to build a new bow and need some supplies. :D
I hope you get him Ryan he should be a good one next year. :archer:

Thanks for sharing. I always look at the pictures I take with my trail camera several times. Some things are easier to miss than others the first time.
How about some weird horns, This crazy buck has 10pts on this odd rack.
You can hardly see it but he has a palmated point coming off the right base and running down in front of his ear behind the eye. The brow tines are behind his ears and there are 2 extra points that curve downward right above his ears. I will be looking for those sheds.

A combine had just come down turned around and was headed back up the field when this buck ran out and started feeding. When it came back he ran off with a ear of corn :D
(http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac248/TmPotter47/4x1buck.jpg)
At first I thought his rack was broken but nope he's a 4x1. This next buck has a broken base on the right side, It shoots strait out then swoops upward.

I shot a doe one time that had a knot in her cheek. I didn't see it until she had expired. It was in her cheek though not her jaw. Don't know what it was and never checked on it....but it looked like the buck you have pictured.
Any correlation between the bucks with the growths on their body and the ones with the goofy antlers? My understanding is that an injury on the body will often accompany abnormal antler growth.
That's a lot of crazy bucks in one area. I had a small doe with a baseball sized lump on her face. I thought is was an impacted tooth just like your "nothead". Great pics.
You guys don't have any nuclear waste nearby do you? I used to see a lot of deformities in the deer at Aberdeen Proving Ground but not antlers, just body injuries that healed back up. They got hit by pieces of shrapnel and rounds downrange. I shot a 3 legged deer there one time.
Ursus, You are right about injurys verses horn development but some times you can't see the injury.
I saw some where a doe with a big knot on here jaw like the buck and they cut it open and there was a big wad of grass stuck in there.
Another weird Whitetail buck

Tracy
reddodge, you werent hunting while they were shelling where you :biglaugh: , we crab about 10 miles up from Aberdeen, sounds like a war zone sometimes, but nothin beats MD blue crabs, plus that and you get to see all the cool aircraft flyin overhead
I even saw a weird Bull elk in Utah this year.
He gave me every shot you could imagine but I was stuck with a spike tag in my pocket. I love his eye guards.
He came right in to my cow call but never made a sound.

I dont have any weird antler clips or anything like that, but I do have some cool/weird stuff while I was out hunting. I self film my hunts, and the stills that I take from the film are not always the best, but sometimes that is just what you have to deal with. . . Have you ever seen a huming bird do this. One of the few times I was hunting in the stand, this little guy came and landed about arms length away from me up in the tree. I got some truely awesome footy of him. But he kept flareing his tail and it looks cool!
I've seen them do that when there fighting, Cool pick!
Tracy
I have never posted a video but I will try because it's worth seeing this buck we call crazy legs.
Didn't work so here's some picks.
He runs around on that leg like theres nothing wrong. I think he was born with it or broke very early on. I have tons of picks of him and several videos.

Tracy
Here's one with a bum back leg. Car injury?

Ouch!! Keep em coming guys :D
Tracy
Dang Tracy!! I'd be affraid to eat them critters! :scared: Great pics; thanks for sharing.
Ken
Something weird going on out there. Are all of these deer from the same general area?
Lots of good pics there tracy. :wavey:
This deer isn't deformed but the photo before this he was in a scrape. He was not a happy deer if you notice he is doing the sideways walk and his ears are laying back. I didn't get the next photo it was just a big brown blob and my game camera was pushed up the tree around to the other side and the case was cracked and had gouge marks on it with strands of hair.
This little buck had his antler growing out right above his eye. I let him go several times to see what he would look like next year. Neighbors shot him during gun season.
Great pics!!!
I have shot lots of deer but for this bucks small rack I have never seen a buck have such a swollen neck.
I once lived in an area in Washington, where we would see mule deer with growths sometimes. We watched one doe named Mommababy ,who had a softball sized growth on her jaw.She brought in twin fawns for 5 out of at least 7 years.Could always tell that it was here because of that soft ball on here face.Didnt affect her eating and evedentally the bucks still found her attractive.Nice pics, thanks for sharing.Wish you lots of luck on your next three mile island hunt, haha.
I got a set of photos of this buck on 8/31/09. I really wanted to kill this buck because he looked so weird, but never saw him again, either on film or in person.
Thats alot of wierdness-I hope these arent the only deer in your area. Thanks for sharing
These deer haven't been hangin out near the Wolf Creek Power Plant have they? LOL!
If that beast of a droptine was hangin around there, I think I'm going to move.........
WEIRD,WEIRD WEIRD!! Something in the ground there!
Yeah, It was a weird season for sure but we only saw one weird racked buck last year. Plenty of heathly deer around and my son and I had 30+ bucks scouted for this last season and that was on 4 different spots.
Heres his buck from last season.
Nice big body deer around here.

They sure love the soy beans.

Chris,
This was back when they were doing a lot of testing on the DU round they used in Desert Storm and they shot a lot on the main front. We were in the area adjacent to the main front and when they blew the siren for a shot I would clamp the bow between my legs and hold on to the tree with both arms. The ground literally shook. Surprisingly the deer never noticed it.
Interesting pics, thanks for posting them.
My trail camera pics were pretty frustrating this year. They were proof that I made the wrong stand choices, I got pictures of nice bucks when I was not there. I guess that's hunting.
This is the only goofy racked buck from the year before. My buddy Guru named him "Top Hat"
Left side is normal but the right side turns in really bad.
Here's a old doe that comes up in are yard all the time. We named her "Patch" because of the white patch on the neck.
She is ten years old and had triplets two years in a row. She's kind of special in are neighborhood.

Good pictures as always Tracy.I know you've got more so keep posting. Ben
