If anyone else is map geek like me this is pretty cool stuff. He explains how to overlay topo maps on Google Earth. As Spring slowly gets here I have been thinking of some areas I want to hunt. So, it's "map scouting" time!
Great stuff! Thanks!
Here's the link to the topic at Archery Talk where you can download the kmz file mentioned in the video: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?p=1056735865 The link is in post #4.
Thanks for posting, that was interesting!
What I found was when you zoom in on GoogleEarth you will lose the topo. So zoom in a little at a time and it will fill in with the topo lines. Works great!
That is nice..
Has anyone tried to print off a map? I tried and it would print the GoogleEarth image even though I had the topo showing...? Is there a way around this? It would be great to be able to print the topo overlay!
Hey Snag, go here and type the closest town to your hunting spot into the white box and then click on the Terrain button when you find your spot

Try Bing Maps. Try the birdseye view.
Snag, if you want the real thing you can call your state geological dept. They can sell them to you.Mine sells them for $8 a map.
I'm able to print the map on my Fedora 12 system. I printed it to a PDF and to my printer. I just picked "Print Graphic of 3D View" and used the screen resolution. Came out fine.
TJ, I've tried that map site.....too sllloooowww. I like being able to switch back and forth between the topo and aerial too.
Ipcjon2, just trying not to have to pay for them.
