I have the opportunity to trade my RER Arroyo I have on the classifieds for a Thunderstick Mag.
I recieved pictures of this bow and it is georgeous. I just don't know anything about these bows.
Can I get some input on the Thundersticks? Are these bows durable? Smooth? Speed isn't that important to me.
This Thunderstick Mag is 56" 50# @ 28". Will this be a smooth bow for me at my 28" draw?
I am very interested in this trade, but just don't know anything about Thundersticks.
Thanks in advance for your input.
I might add that I enjoy the feel of a heavier weighted bow in my hand. Are the Thundersticks real light or do they have some Mass to them?
Just do a search on this forum for "ThunderStick" or "MOAB" and you will see about a hundred threads stating what great bows they are. I own two of them and wouldn't trade them for anything.

I have a Mag 58" 47@28. Fantastic bow. I believe mine is on the light weight side. Definitely not on the heavy side. It's very smooth, points good & the grip is great. For a 47lb. bow, it's quick. If I could change anything on it, it would be a heavier poundage. Other than that, it's great. I also have a 64in. Montana. The mag is every bit as stable as the Montana.
Top of the line bow made by one of the most respected bowyers in the business.
If you are looking for a shorter, high performing longbow you would be hard pressed to do better IMO.
Jim is a good friend of mine and I
have owned a bunch of his bows. The Mag
is a very quick bow lite in your hand
no shock a good choice.
I had a MOAB that I just traded for a arroyo. The longbow that jim made was awesome, just wanted a heavier bow. They are of average mass for a longbow. I put a strap on quiver on mine to add weight. If the bow is the poundage you are looking for, I wouldn't hesitate.
Can I put a Dacron String on this bow? I know the only issue is going from a dacron to FF, but has anyone noticed any great disadvantage to the Thundersticks by putting a Dacron string on?
(I am a dracron Fan)
I would ask Jim about the bow length with a 28" draw, but I am sure it would work. I shot the 58" at a litte over 28", and it was ok. It is a locator grip so not a lot of mass there for weight.
I'm a dacron string fan too. You will lose a couple FPS is all. Adding to that, I had a MOAB that was the fastest longbow I've ever shot. It will balance out.

The 56" Mag that I had drew smooth a little past 29". If you are looking for a short quick longbow this is a perfect choice. The Mag now resides with a good friend, but that's okay I have his MOAB.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a hard time deciding between the Mag and the MOAB, I pulled back a 56 inch, 55 pound Mag and couldnt believe how smooth it was. I only have a 26 1/2 inch draw, but there was no finger pinch at all on the short Mag. Jim is a top notch bowyer, I went home with a MOAB
