I am sure one of the fiddlers in the group has figured this out. ( -tis the season)
What how much mass weight does a 7 inch wrap add to and arrow vs a cap dip.
thanks
Matt
I forget!!! :) But that is common at my age.
What I can tell you is that I did EFOC measurements carefully on a cap dipped arrow with 5" shield cut feathers.
Then I Checked a 10" wrap w/ 3" feathers...and the FOC DROPPED! Yup. The wrap added enough weight to the back that it LOWERED my foc even though I ADDED 20 gr. up front!!
That amazed me. Checked it 3x and then asked Dr. Ed Ashby and he confirmed a slight add in rear weight really detracts from EFOC. Fwiw.
Used to dip in laquer, first white then another color, then clear and found it would add about 30 grains for a 9" dip.
Wraps are around 10 grains each.
I love bow-nerds :)
Can't wait till I start having use for this!
But I've only shot for 11 months, so it'll take some time..
Depends on who makes the wrap.
The 7" long x 1" or 1-1/8" wide ones I get from Onestringer weigh 11-12 grains. I've gotten some over the counter ones that were surprisingly heavier.
Can't say how much dipping adds but I would bet it's quite a bit more.
Two dips of 9-inch cap (Bohning lacquer) added about 10-12 grains to my 11/32 shafts. Difference in weight between a dip and vinyl is pretty much a wash. Not enough to worry about. Though it's effect on FOC is real, it is negligible, less than 1/2%. Yep, I measured all these things.
I believe my 1"X8" wraps are 12 grs.
thanks guys I knew some had the answer
Matt
Wraps weigh in at about a grain a square inch.
