Just checking to see if there is a good guide to what 450+ is good to...conservative estimate.
I built a 6 strand today padded and it had a very nice finished diameter...I believe they are good to the mid 50's.
I've built a few 8 strand padded and they're into the 60's from what I've read in the past or greater.
So is there a good conservative guideline? I don't want to go below 6 strands as that makes me nervous.
Thanks,
Josh
The manufacturer (BCY) reccomends 12 strands. I don't particularly care for 450+ myself (or any other material with a high percentage of Vectran or Carrera)--it's less durable. When I do use it, I don't like to go below 8 strands.

Thanks Chad...I am cautious about this material and will make sure people understand the aspects of this material going into an order.
Are there others out there that use this? What strand count are you using?
Chad...do you see the same results with 452X? Are you using this material?
Josh
I've never used 452X, and don't plan to. 452 has even more Vectran than 450+ (67/33 vs 70/30).
When BCY published breaking strengths, they gave 450+ 155# (vs. Dynaflight '97 at 125#, 8125 at 120#, and B-500 at 45#). Some folks use 6 strands, maybe less, but to quote Molley Hatchet that is "flirtin' with disaster" IMO.
