in your experience, what is the most accurate longbow you've shot or the most "popular" seen in competition?
I wish I had the money for one, although I dont think its the bow as much as it is the shooter. But the best longbow I've ever shot was my buddys Black Widow longbow. Everything about that bow felt right, got me a thinkin' bout' sellin all my other bows to buy one...maybe, tax returns commin tho..
Seven Lakes should have never let it go.
I don't think its the bow, but the shooter. Although I have seen some fine shots with Hill bows and on the other end of the spectrum ACS longbows. I still think its the shooter not the bow!
It's all in the eye of the beholder, or more specifically, the hand/eye coordination of the beholder! :D
I have shot/owned alot of great bows. I would have to say the best that I have shot was either a Schafer Silvertip longbow or a Thunderstick II. Kohannah Fury and Great Northern Fireball are right up there too. It comes down to personal preferences, what style grip do you like, how important is speed compared to smoothness or lack of hand shock. Alot of veriables there.
It will be the one that "fits" you best! i have chased the holy grail of the magic bow (Killie had it but she sold it to Larry i think). I've shot and owned some of the most expensive high end bows and some middle of the road. What i found, for me, is that i cannot shoot a straight gripped longbow very well. i need either a fairly pronounced locator grip or a recurve grip. My advice is to shoot a bunch of bows, then shoot some more. Maybe before you die, you will find your "magic" bow! :)
The best shooter I personally know shoots a bow made by a local bowyer. His bow looks like a widow riser with longbow limbs. I purchased one of his bows and couldnt shoot it to save my life. Its the shooter not the bow.
The bow has very little to do with accurary. On the other hand, the shooter and the arrow do. That's the nice thing about trad archery, you can't buy accuracy. You have to earn it. :)
Recently shot a Zipper SXT takedown longbow at Kalamazoo after shooting many of the competitors bows and was amazed. Very Light, Dead in the hand, whisper quiet, and really, really fast. The handle design keeps the string away from my forearm by at least 1" or better. This will be great when piling on the hunting clothes or wearing gillie/leafy suits. Went to Kalamazoo to place an order for another brand longbow but needless to say I immediately ordered a Zipper. Now I have that agonizing wait. Bill at Zipper seems to be very one on one with customers and listen to their needs.

I do love my fireball, she is fast, my tomahawk is super stable and even faster. But like I said before, you could be shootin' an old banged up kmag, but if your hittin where you want everytime thats all that matters.
The thing that I have learned is if you have to stick to one bow. you will learn how to shot that bow like none other, dont keep switching bows even if you own many. Especially recurves to longbows, or vice versa. Find one you really like and practice, practice, practice. Every bow is different, even bows that appear identical sometimes. This is my problem sometimes.
For me it would have to be a 3-piece ACS by A@H.
Although right now im shooting a Bear Paws Longbow thats not near as fast but i can bust nocks with that bow.
I agree with everyone else though find a bow that just feels right to you and learn how to shoot that sucker.
The bows i shoot best seem to have a good sight window if that makes any sense.
I pull the bow to anchor and the bow seems to lock in on the target.

You did real good! The SXT is also high on my list of must have bows. One of these days...one of these days....
It's a tie...Griffin and the Fox Royal Crown.
No such thing as an accurate bow - only accurate shooters.
Stick any bow in a machine and it will stack arrows tighter than any of us.It is the monkey pulling the string and accurate is just what he likes in a bow. :)
no No NO! please dear Lord - not yet another 'best' thread, arrrrggghhhhhhhh! :scared:
the kinda longbows created today, any one of 'em are capable of far more accuracy than most any archer. shooting machines have proved this over and over again.
this is still a free form aiming sport, based on perfection of form, execution of aim-release-follow through. don't matter whether yer popping paper or pigs.
the cabin fever meter gives this thread 6 outta 10. :D
Exactly. The answer is, none of them, and all of them. 8^).
Its anyone that im shooting at the time...LOL
the bow is only as good as the shooter is,so with that being said not every bow will work for every person, thus why we all have certain bows that work better for us.
Ditto what George said
I have spent a bunch looking and trying out waaaay too many...finally found "my bow" and it's a Morrison Shawnee/Dakota. This one even has the old bamboo limbs [2 sets]. I have many very nice customs including some that cost alot more.
This is truley the "best of the best" for me... I shoot it better than any bow I have ever owned [ including my recurves ]. :wavey:
i always have to read these threads just to see what trends tend to come about...usually none
A better question might be "What longbow can you shoot most accurately?" or something like that.
So far my A&H ACS 66" 3pc.. Tried a few others and plan to try some more. That whats makes it FUN and INTERESTING. Need to settle in on one closer to Hunting Season. Still 6 months away.

Tim,
Rob DiStefano said this before. Spoken like a true bow nut LOL
Just sent this PM to a fellow Trad Ganger when he asked me for my opinion on what I thought was a "good" shooting bow.
"Bows are a very personal thing, what is good for me might not be good for you. The ACS CX has a personality of it's own and it's hard to compare it to any other bow. My personal preference for longbows are as follows:
Performance longbow**ACS CX
Hunting longbow**John McCullough Griffin
Best combination of the two**Centaur
Best value for the dollar**Kanati
Recurves are a different ballgame my favorites are as follows:
Smoothest/fastest**Pittsley Predator
Durability**Black Widow
History**Bear Kodiak Takedown
Value**Whisperstik Mojo Stik
In all bows the biggest thing for me is the grip, if it feels good the arrow goes where you look. If you can shoot well, you can shoot ANY bow well, the key is what bow you can shoot well without having to think about it. It's an unconscious extention of you. The difference between them can be subtle, but when you shoot "the bow" you will know."
Alright alright, everyone knows the best shooting bow is the one that costs the most. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Good luck in your search for the ONE!
Any longbow in Byron Ferguson's hands
i have had high end bows and middle of the road bows.best longbow for me was mohawk with a large locater grip.i have found the bow i was meant to shoot though,cari-bow tuktu one piece recurve.i shoot this thing lights out.thats because it just feels so right in my hand and hits right where i look with great consistantcy.just have to find "your" bow.
Gotta be a Shrew, best shootin longbow I've ever picked up! And I've picked up a lot of em'!!
I personally do not think that it is ALL the shooter. If it were we could either shoot any bow made or non of them at all and never find "The One"! The perfect bow for you will be the one that feels good in your hand, like an extension of your arm, AND is the most forgiving of your individual deviations from perfect form! That's the trick to finding your "majic bow" whatever style of bow that may be. Have fun and enjoy the search!
It's the shooter not the bow.
The most accurate longbow I've ever owned was a Samick SLB69.
To look at it was a piece of junk, the grip was so fat I took a rasp to it a couple of times to get it even close to my hand size, and I don't have small hands.
Since I was stupid enough to give that bow away,I've owned a couple of up market longbows an while they shot Ok,they never felt as good or shoot quite as well for me as the old Samick.
I think the main thing that made the Samick so good for me was the fact I owned it 6 years,it was the only bow I owned and I shot it almost every day.
Now days when somebody shows me his latest wonderbow,I don't say much because I know 90% of them will be showing me something different in a year or so.
No bow has built in accuracy. Byron's bow wouldn't hit the side of a barn in the hands of an inexperienced novice. Some are easier to shoot. An ole wood stick bow will do as good as any in the hands of a well practiced expert I believe.
I just got a Bob Lee Signature Longbow. Wow! I hit the target the first time. Then I got close to the bulls eye on two more arrows. I gave it to my Brother to use. He hasn't shot since boy scouts. He beat me stump'n with it.
I can't say its the best but it sure is good. Not expensive either.
Anybody shoot a Habu Death Adder Longbow?
How was it?
Matt
Morrison Cheyenne with Foam limbs. I like the weight of the riser matched with his foam limbs, seems like it works very well for me at least. But at the end of the day I'm loving my HH Big Five, even if I don't shoot it as well as my Cheyenne's.
Any longbow can hit the mark with an accurate shooter.
I second the ACS style bow made by A & H. They are true shooters!!!!!
I am sure there are a lot of self bows out there to rival the glass bows!
I have many longbows. The longbow I keep going back to is a used 21st Century that I bought at a tag sale for $75.00. The bow shoots where I look and just "fits".
I shoot a Savannah real well.
Of the longbows that I have shot so far, I'm the most consistent with my Kanati. Can't seem to miss with it!
Depends on the shooter. What shoots good for 1 person may not for another.
Bill
The one you shoot the best.
From 5 feet my longbow hits the bulls eye everytime. Do I need to back up some?
What no Black Widow Longbow lovers here!!
In my opinion accuracy is in the hands of the shooter. I am just as accurate with my fox as I was with my roy hall and my a and h acs. Once I am shooting arrows matched to the bow one bow is as accurate as the other!
Ain't the club but the clubee. Too many came to me for golf lessons with $1000 clubs & $5 swings. A satisfied mind builds confidence however. "Want to" will find a way.
The one being shot by the best shooter.
I think its the one that shoots best for you...

I think that sums it right up... :D
It's the shooter and the tuning poundage and length...then just time to get used to it.
Now you will find ones that truely don't suit your hand, length - poundage whatever or something about it (that's why I am trying lots of different ones, but when you find the one...and I mean the one that is an extension of you...you will shoot it effortlessly and accurately...period
jer Bear
The best shooting longbow is the one you shoot best. It is different for everybody out there.
Bisch
I had a saxon mogoose that shot pretty well.I bought a saxon american with exactly the same specs and it did not shoot as well for me.I thought that the bow was cheaper because of the materials used. Now I use a preditor recurve.I have 2 of them with the same specs.Same grade of bow.One of them is my favorite as I can shoot it better than the other. So maybe you should try several of the same make before drawing a conclusion on the brand.
