Title: MA Bears
Post by: mrpenguin on February 09, 2010, 01:51:00 PM
I'm a resident of CT, and as of yet, we have no bear season.  The bears are getting into a LOT of trouble here in CT and my guess is that its only a matter of time before a short Spring or Fall bear season opens... hopefully BEFORE someone gets hurt.  That said I know there is a season in MA, spot and stalk only, and I am curious if any of our Mass. brethren hunt bears?  I am thinking about getting tags, BUT not really confident I can hunt Western MA without someone who knows the area and knows the bears there.

Yeah I almost hit one on the Bershire spur coming home from the Cape a few years ago. He was a big old boar and didnt mind stopping the traffic.

Another option is NY. Fall season only but the Berks arent too far away from the Catskills...

I will be chasing Colorado elk during the MA bear season this year. I would check out the farm areas near the deerfield river. Knock on a few farmers doors, the bears have a bad habit of tearing up crops and cornfields and most would be happy to have a bowhunter harvest a bear.
