Title: gold tip question
Post by: Jeff Kruse on February 08, 2010, 08:42:00 PM
Hi Guys,
Just got some new gold tip shafts. Is there a way to get the label off of the shaft? I wanted to crest them, but I would like to remove all of the writing.
Thanks
Jeff

I tried some acetone on a first run GT 3555 Traditional arrow and it rubbed right off.  I bought some GT 3555 trad blems from Big Jims and tried the same thing.  Most of the writing came off but you can still see a faint image of the label.  Might have to try one and see what happens.  I wonder if the blem shafts have a more permanent type of ink or dye so they can't be sold as firsts?

You will regret it a year from now when you cant remember what spine they are.  Acetone will take them off.

I used acetone also and a faint image was still present.

If I'm not mistaken, I think onestringer (arrow wraps) uses goo gone extreme.

Acetone with 0000 steel will will clean them right up.  And good grief,, they only make four spine weights in traditionals and you can't remember what spine you shoot??????  Uff Dah

Nail polish remover.
My wife has it in her 75% of our bathroom.
It's just Acetone.

Peter, - - that's funny right there   :D    I've done it! Jeff - acetone and a piece of that green scrubby stuff for dishes works great. Had no problem with the ink on the GT blems. I have different spines for different bows - - so it is possible to mix them up.

Acetone and a scotchbrite pad works for me.

I had some that were marked closer to the nock. (just a little bit) Might all be that way, and did my shaft cutting on the nock end and covered the letters with a 9" wrap. Didn't have to take off the letters at all. I cut mine to 30.25 so if you cut yours shorter, than this is a viable option.

thanks,bigjim

I used some 0000 steel wool.  My 35/55 blems had some rough spots and I was cleaning some up.
