Title: Need some ideas/options for a hunting trip for less than $1000 bucks!!!
Post by: stick flipper on February 08, 2010, 06:13:00 PM
Come on and throw any ideas or opinions or past hunts you have gone on for less than $1000. I am looking for a 5-10 day hunt, I live in central ohio, and I can make my own work schedule....so lets hear some ideas!!!
I have been to colorado for elk...which was awesome. This trip would be a DIY public land hunt. I dont want to pay for a guide or an outfitter. I am willing to back-in and I will have a hunting buddy going as well so that would split cost of gas and would be another set of legs and lungs for after the shot  ;) . I am not picky as far as time of the year either. I can do a spring hunt, a late summer pronghorn, a fall elk or deer, winter hogs..... endless options just have to keep it under $1000 and 5-10 days.

Thanks for any input,

Chris

I would lean away from a tn bear hunt, lots of public land, but bout the only bears I have ever seen are in the sections of forest where bear hunting is not allowed.

South Dakota turkeys.  Done the trip twice.  Plenty of birds and it cost us about $500 a piece.

If you want big game, you have plenty of options for that much money (Nebraska mulies, Iowa whitetails, etc.).

You and your buddy can put in for moose tags in NH, Maine and VT. DIY moose in these states is cheap if you get drawn.

I am planning on doing just that this year... what is the hunting like in these states and what areas are the best?

Thanks!

there is a lot of good public land in georgia. not to mention the licenses are pretty cheap. if i'm not mistaken you can get all the licenses you need for well under 500 bucks. plus in the spring you can hunt turkeys and hogs, or if you wanted to hunt in the fall you could hunt deer bear and hogs all on public land.
