I have been making my own strings from B-50 for years, but after shooting and making the decision to buy a MOAB, things change. The test bow I shot had less hand shock with the supplied no/low stretch string, so now I must learn.
Old Dog, New Tricks.... this is the place to ask.
How do I pad the loops and can I use B-50? I have looked at all the recent string threads, and still cannot decide on material.
Sure you can use it for padding. Allen Shafer uses Dacron padding in the loops with my D97 strings.
For what it's worth. I use Fast flight plus. 8 strands. I pad the loops with 6 strands of B-50 by cutting the b-50 to 12 inches and lay 3 strands on each FF bundle and twist the loops. When I close the loops, I start dropping two strands of B-50 then the FF strands as done in the DVD "Doin' the Twist". Do this for both loops of course.
I think any of the new low stretch strings will work for you just fine.
Moebow, what do you mean by dropping the B-50? I have not seen the DVD, heck they wurnt no such thang when I started twisting.
Are you talking about ending the dacron immediately after closing the loops abruptly or slowly taper them with the other material?
Thanks,
Michael
B-50 or B-500 is fine for padding loops.
Dropping a strand, as demonstrated in our DVD, is simple. Twist normally for a certain number of twists after you make the loop (say 15 twists), then drop a tag end (or two), twist once or twist, drop another tag or two, etc. You'll have some long tag ends to cut off, but it will taper off the loop nicely.
I don't know what kind of string comes with the MOAB, but my preferance in HMPE materials is Dynaflight '97 or Formula 8125.

If at all possible, can someone send me a PM on how to pad the loops? I know how to make strings, and right now I only use B50, but I want to get some D97 and I think I will want to pad those strings?

Me too please!!!!
Thanks in advance.

I use B 50 all the time to pad loops. Just add 3 or 4 12 inch long strands of B 50 to each of your string bundles and make the string as you normally would. This will give you 6 to 8 strands of dacron padding in each loop. Once its on the bow I trim the ends of the dacron which seems to stick out some.
