no, no, i didn't get drunk. i went out shark hunting again.
i went out on sunday for another go at a shark. this time i had a mate with me. we turned up at the spot, anchored up and got the berley in the water. the berley consisted of minced up pilchards, squid, some old fish fillets that had been in the freezer too long and a couple of whole tarpon i caught the day before. the tarpon i used as the teaser to get them in range.
the rising tide was doing its job of dispersing our stinky payload and within 1/2 an hour we had some black tip reef sharks at the back of the boat. the biggest we saw was about 3 1/2' long. they seemed to be a bit timid though and couldn't be coaxed into range. after about 2 hours of this things started to get a bit quiet, we thought that reef sharks were all we were going to see. then suddenly, like a thief in the night, a good hammerhead shark showed up, wanting to steal my tarpon. my mate dragged him in a little closer while i quickly got into position at the back of my 12' tinnie.
i don't remember aiming but somehow the arrow found it's mark, right on its nose. ( got to love instinctive shooting!)
then it was a matter of letting the line off the bow and start fighting it on the rod. it fought like an anvil!
after about 10 minutes we had it beside the boat and after a few quick blows to the head we tail roped it and towed it to the beach for pics and meat recovery.
another great day out on the water!
it was 7' 3 3/4" long.

this is why i use a cable slide system for big game fishing, if the arrow breaks your still connected to the good end of the broken arrow.

Now that's what I call bowfishing! But in a freakin' 12' boat? Man, I won't take my 12 footer out on Devils Lake duck hunting, let alone bowfishing something darn near as long as the boat that bites back....
Question: Do you have a plan if one of those 15 foot/1 ton great whites shows up while you are looking for his smaller cousins?...
:scared: You'll need a bigger boat for the great white my friend.
Now that is way cool!! Not so sure about the 12 foot boat!!
Nice
First off I think that is very cool, but I am with some others when I say... 12' boat + 7' SHARK = me on dry land. That must be a trip to see that big of a fish with a bow in your hand. how far off shore do you go?
AH what the heck, I,ll do it(w/a bigger boat!)Chuck
Clint That was awesome now that is was I call fishing.
Nice job!
How are those Shark steaks on the grill?
A 12ft boat would be about 10ft too short for me! That is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, that is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen!
Dang....12' boat? I would need a 32 footer and a 12 gauge for backup. You have some cajones!
If there is any such thing as to much fun? That may be it!!Thanks for taking us along.
Bill
Now that's just too COOL!!!! One of these days...

BOB
Now that's bowfishing!
Nice goin there Clint!!!You might wanna try the detachable arrow system from Muzzy used for gators so the shaft wouln't break like that. That's a lot of fun, fun, fun!!!
Did the shark try to steal your bow? I would have worried that the shark would make off with my bow. Gary

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the story and pics. Can we get a close-up of the jaws? Pucker factor was in the 90's just reading about. Had an incident with a 17 ft Killer Whale while on a 33' boat. That was scary enough!
Makes our carp look little!!
You are now my 6 year old's official HERO!!!
Thanks for sharing those pics.
To cool mount the jaws, that will be to awesome. :bigsmyl:
Wow! And to think I get happy when I shoot a big carp.
:notworthy:
Man, that is sweet. You could use that skin too to back a bow or make a handle wrap.
That's on my "Bucket List"
Congrats, Jack
How cool is that!!! Congrats!
i'll be cleaning up the jaws this afternoon. ;)

:bigsmyl:
Ozy, I wanted to show this to a couple of buddies because I thought this was awesome! Thanks for posting the pictures.
I thought hammerheads were one of the only sharks that is not edible along with nurse sharks. Could be the Fish and Game commission lying to us US citizens.
I think you have had too much sun! Wow that is amazing, like to see that on hunting tv!
That is too cool!!! Way to go.
whats next? bears with a slingshot...cool!
Way cool!
Congrats on getting "Hammered" over the weekend

Just when I start to contemplate taking up bowfishing again, this shows up. Now, that's intimidating.
I'm pretty land locked here in central Illinois, I guess I'll stick with carp.
