What do you use to build up your side plate when you are tuning you arrows?
VELCRO? Its Cheap and Does the Job!
I use velcro on the bows we build,it last very well works very well.
Thicker piece of leather, with the feather edge tapered.
I think he's wanting to know what people use under the velcro or material so as to build the side plate out further.
Right?
I use the same as Ben, a thicker piece of leather with back edge feathered.
I like to use a piece of laether for building out the side plate for tuning. The only bow I have done this on are a couple of recurves because the riser are cut past center.
same hear leather.
i use rubber band under moleskin if i need to build out my sideplate. If i don't need to build it out i just use moleskin.
I built mine out using a short piece of a plastic toothpick.
Velcro over a toothpick for me as well.
Velcro and I use different sizes of weed eater string under it to experiment with.
I use a piece of leather or paper match stick...both cut to fit.
And I use velcro only to tune...and calf leather for the strike plate after that. I have found that velcro can be noisy on the draw with certain arrows.
Thin leather or rubber under a hair plate. An old bicycle inner tube gives a nice thin rubber. Clean it well and it glues very solid.
Velcro when shooting off shelf. I mostly use elevated rests on my recurves.
leather bootlace or a matchstick under the sideplate.
Just to tune use cardboard off the back of a note book with masking tape. You can add layers. When you get the thickness you need you can go to leather or what ever with the correct thickness material or with a toothpick or what ever to get the thickness you want.
thick 2 face tape-just cut a small strip then apply your plate.

I use 2 sided carpet tape under leather when tuning. Just keep on adding more tape until you get the desired result. Then if you want you can make a nicer sideplate the same thickness.

3r sells a side plate with a build piece to go under it cheap.
Thanks for the ideas gives me a few things to try.
I use a split piece of a wood arrow. With a piece of smooth leather over it.
I have used either leather or small strips of black electric tape with mole skin over it to build out the side plate on my riser.
As i had to build out a bit further i used pieces of cabel ties glued together and covered with velcro

This is how the man who helped me build a bow showed me. He took a razorblade and tapered the edge of piece of leather that he had cut out. That way it lays down nicely with the wood riser, looking like it is inset in the wood. He also put a small piece of wood under the shelf piece and did the same tapering to this piece as well. On my other bows I use velcro...but I think this way looks the best.
Double sided carpet tape works great for this! Plus you don't have to mess around with gluing this and that etc...
Bought some kind of rubber pieces at Low's that has adhesive on the back and its easy to trim down to size.
Put the velcro over that.
