Well, looks like I'll be packing up my stickbow and heading up to a fly-in camp in Manitoba this June to try for a blackie. I'm still working out some final details with the Outfitter (mostly my week), but I am already getting excited! I'll be turning 50 this Spring and this hunt seems like an appropriate way to celebrate.
Who else has a bear hunt scheduled for this Spring? Let's hear about your plans.
Claudia
excellent way to celebrate.... Good luck and be sure to let the 'bear settle down' before your shot. Joe
Sounds like an adventure! I'm not going until September up in Alaska, but have been planning for a LONG time.
Happy early birthday! I will be 40 in May. I'm trying to figure out a good way to celebrate too.
I was just notified of dates for my Northern Saskatchewan hunt.It starts May 30th,about the beginning of the rut.I'm pumped.
Claudia, I'll be hunting with Tom Phillips on Bear Quest IV in Quebec this June. Will be my first Bear hunt out of Michigan. Can't wait.
that's great, what part of the province are you hunting?
Anybody headed to POW? I'm here and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone coming this way.
I'll be north of Winnipeg, hunting with McKenzie Outfitters. I don't recall the closest town. Should be a great time!
Claudia
Ms. Pinecone,
We will be looking for Grizz again, this spring.
Best Wishes
Good luck everyone
I am if I get my bow/s here and the physio on my am takes.
Man this being layed up is KILLING me
jer Bear
I'm heading back up to New Brunswick Canada the first week of June with our group of 9 this year. Should be a fun time as usual.
Is this your first bear bowhunt?
Most importantly do not be in a hurry. These bears want the bait and will come back in many times after the goodies. Sit back and enjoy the show. Be patient and wait for the perfect shot.
Single lung hit bears simply will not be recovered. ONLY take broadside shots. 8" circle mid body tight behind the shoulder equals a dead bear every time.
Good luck and let us know when you get back.

Mrs. Cone- plan on getting out a bit but probably just day trips locally, up high in avalanche chutes where the grass comes in early and thick. Hope your trip works out well.
I picked up tags for my step son, two nephews, and myself Friday.
I will take my trad bow out, but don't really expect much to happen. I will be focusing on the boys harvesting with their rifles.
We CAN NOT bait, so it is a tough hunt with a bow in this terrain and brush.
Good luck to those that can sit over a bait pile.

I'll be headed out for Bear Quest. Gotta luv spring bear hunten. Good Luck all!!
Claudia, this is exciting good luck.I'll be in Saskachewan in May.But I am dreaming Alaska bears with some TGangers resident.LOL
I'm booked with Cochran River Outfitters in Saskatchewon. BIG bears and 1st class accomodations.
Looks like a lot of bears are gonna have a tough Spring when the "Gang" hits the woods! Good luck everyone...and don't forget your bug spray...those black flies are darn near predatory!
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: Claudia
Haven't chased blackies for a couple years. Huge fun though! My last was Yukon bruin that I killed on a stalk. No bears for me this spring, but something bigger (and meaner) coming in a few years...
Always enjoy your posts!
Man would I love to stalk one someday!!
Claudia, I will also be going on BearQuest IV and this will be this old Georgia boys first bear hunt! Cannot wait!!
Mark
Happy Birthday! A little early!
Already looking forward to the story!
Claudia- I hunted with Monty McKenzie out of Bisset, Manitoba last year. He is good guy. Several of his bowhunters saw wolves. Some at less than 20 yards, but neither one took shots due to shot angle or a little too dark. The fishing is good as well. I hunted in the spring, but the weather was too cold, so I went back in the fall and took this bear on Hobbs Lake. Have fun, Mike

Nice bear Mike.
You guys are killin me!! I can't even put back into the draw for another year, then it will be 5 or so to draw. Hopefully my friends can draw so I can go bait. Good luck to everyone, looking forward to stories and pics.
I heard about your hunt from Mont, Mike. That's a nice bear! Hope I fare as well this June!
Claudia
Alaska in May with Homer Circle Charter. Hogdancer, Gene Carol and few other TG guys on the boat hunting the beaches.
I am hunting with big paw outiftters in New Brunswick Canada. Big blackies and great salmon fishing too! I have hunted in New Foundland, labradore and Quebec but never NB! loking forward to it for sure!
Have a great hunt Claudia.. Take a bunch of pics and please share with us when you get home.
Other than a few spring trips I usually hunt bears in the fall. October this year in Arkansas then an August trip next year to Maine.
Awesome bear Herdbull.
Bears are just COOL...! Spot n stalk after bears is by far my favorite animal to bowhunt.

We can't bait either - spot and stalk - so if you are on a bait...like somebody said earlier...be patient and wait for a good one.
I am not sure with the one lung recovery though....we had a fella ham one and recovered it, but we didn't push him either...he made five beds and was dead in the last one.
Not the shot you want, but it was his first bear adn out of a stand...hit way back...patience is best.

I prefer spot and stalk, but can't always go, so fly-in hunts are a good second choice. Make the hunt as difficult as you want by waiting for a mature one...not always easy.
Just a little fuel for the fire.

Headed to Reindeer Lake in Saskatchewan in mid June. Should be a great hunt with some awesome fishing.
I will be doing my first bear hunt this spring. It will be my father and I. We will be doing a drop camp here in Oregon.
Never been bear hunting before look forward to learning more about it and spending time with my dad in the woods.
Claudia,
Looking for some Good Stories coming out of Canada...Good luck!
I'll be back at Bear Quest with Tilly's pup Cash for tracking. I'm actually more excited to see how she'll work on bears. I've never taken Tilly just because she works deer so well. Bill Kisner will also have his Jaeg terrier Suzie the first week. Should be some great tracking training with the number of bears taken up there...Doc
Got my PF. point for Utah :D
Good luck Claudia!! and everybody else too
Tracy
Sounds like a great way to celebrete your 50th. I'm going this September on a 7 day black bear hunt in Ontario. Been waiting 2 years, and only 6 months to go. Good luck to you.
Hope you birthday wishes come true!!
Good luck to everyone I'm in the waiting period time for a few years now. :banghead:
Why would a person NOT hunt bears in the spring?? :D
I have a friend from GA coming up to help me catch one this year too.
:archer:
Bear Quest IV in June-1st week. Can not git here soon enough! Good Luck to all...
Joining Jim (LITTLEBIGMAN) in NB in May. Took my first bear last June at the BearQuest for my 60th year. Good Hunting Claudia!
I'll be in Canada with Tom but I opted for the second week. Too much going on in week one. GY
Good luck,I haven't got one yet-But bear meat is one of my favorites.
I am hunting over bait this year in Idaho. Have had good luck the last 3 years. Usually end up heading out in June to hunt. Seems to be the best time for us up here. I am gonna try with an older Bear Kodiak Magnum this year. I really want to shoot a bear with a Bear bow.
It'll be my first time chasing bears at BQ4 week one can't wait!
I always envied you guys that could hunt deer close to home. Well, bears are to me as deer are to you. I hunt them every year. Here are a few I've gotten in recent years.

Well, that didn't work. Let me try again.
I will be in Quebec again for 21st year and this year again with a bunch of Trad-Gangers can;t wait.In fact I was just unpacking sweets in front of TV. Good Luck to All and a safe trip as well. Take alot of pictures.
Ken T,
Those are some DANDY Bears you have taken.
Best of luck Claudia. I won;t be going this year but hopefully in the next two years for me. I went a couple of years ago North of Winnipeg but the weather and our outfitter "snookered" us. Long story but it wasn't your Outfitter we went with.
Be sure to post pics.
Ken T great looking bears! thanks for the great pix...
ken, those are some great pics, and wow those are bruins
I am hoping to get drawn for a permit here in Washington.
Ken T.-those are some great bears! Were are you hunting them and how?-Bill
Thanks guys!
I started hunting bears as a kid. Ended up being a misc. big game guide for most of my adult life. Ran a bear camp quite a while in Quebec. My guys got lots of big bears in different areas of the province. Am now semi-retired. Kinda miss it. Old habits die hard and I still run baits just for pleasure for myself, family, and friends.
I now hunt south of where I live in northern Quebec. I like hunting from the ground in natural blinds. Just for the heck of it, I cleaned up the cedar arrow I used to kill my 2008 bear and killed my 2009 bear with it. Will be trying for a third with that same arrow this coming spring. Like to keep things interesting.
A sincere wish of good luck and good times to all this coming spring wherever you are hunting. Ken
Cool Ken! Thanks
Good luck, this spring will be my first attempt at a trad hunt. I am lucky to have bear here in NewBrunswick and do my own hunts. This won't be my first bear but if it works out, it will be the one I will be most proud of. I'll be looking forward to hearing stories through out the season. >>>> RAY
I hope to hunt in Maine again, maybe this fall. I have been there four times with Eldon Jandreau of Hunters Point Guide Service. Good guy to hunt with but it's stands over bait and I would love to try a spot and stalk hunt sometime. Woods are so thick up there from timber clear cutting over the years it would be a tough place to spot and stalk--guess it could be done but I've never tried it. Best of luck Claudia and the rest of my fellow 'gangers on the spring hunts.....Dave
