Been a couple weeks since I posted any pieces because the last couple I have done have either been non-eligible for posting on Tradgang (i.e. gun kills) or were surprises for someone who frequents Tradgang. Should be able to post that one soon as it should have been given to the person this weekend at the pig gig.
Just started work on this photo of Howard Hill. Terry Harris, who runs the Howard Hill Southeastern Classic, asked me to do one for the auction he has to benefit the boy scouts who generously allow use of their property for the shoot. Terry is paying for this one for the auction, but I also donated a custom plaque to be auctioned where the recipient can provide his own pic. So, if you attend the shoot you will be able to bid on the following piece and/or the custom piece.
Here is the original pic. Oh, and it is my understanding that Terry got permission from the Howard Hill folks for me to do this plaque and for him to auction it.

Excellent.

What are the prices for these?
Steve,
price varies depending on the size and the photo you want done. Best thing to do is shoot me an email with a photo you want done and I can tell you exactly what it would cost.
You can email or pm me through tradgang.
Chip
You are sickly talented.
Thanks for all the compliments!

You have some serious pryomaniac leaning there with that level of talent burning wood to look like it was airbrushed.
Good gravy, Gertie, but them skin tones is scary good!
Thanks, Doc!
Here is a little video I found that is related to the carving. Thought some of you might enjoy it!

Been doing some stippling, which means lots of little dots. Lots and lots of dots! All the shading on the elephant is actually dots. I went over the whole elephant with light colored dots. Turn the heat up a hair and go over darker areas again.

Thats really cool-I am not familiar with your work.I would be really interested to know what you use for your plaques?
Robert
Thanks, Robert! These are Bark-on plaques. They are winter cut basswood. Hard to tell in the pics because I crop out everything but the carve/burn.
Chip
That is truly an amazing talent you have. As always thanks for sharing!
PM sent about another project Chip...
John III
Got it, John! Sent ya an email!

Chip,
You just keep getting better and better. Amazing work.
Bob
Chip,
Thanks for the info.I was almost thonking it looked like layers if foam core board :bigsmyl: (because of the relief).I have played with pyrography and your work is totally on a different level.
Verry inspiring :notworthy:
Thanks, everybody!
Robert, here is a full pic for you. I carve it to a few different levels, sand them smooth, then burn them.
not done yet, but getting close...

I dont know why,but I never thought about carving a woodburning project to give it more depth.thanks again.
Robert
I spent 30 years messing with photography and don't think I ever had any MORE detail than that!
Good gracious, boy... you never cease to amaze me.
Q: You ever wet the bed doing all that wood burning like when we lit matches as kids behind the barn? :D
Robert, in some ways it makes it harder to do. Like on the outline of an animal with fir.
Thanks, Doc! Never would have believed I could send people pieces of wood I burned and they would not only hang them on their wall but would pay me for them! Wondering where the good Lord is taking me with this!
