I live in N.E. Arkansas which is the WORST place in the state for hunting and fishing; I have to travel to different areas of the state or travel to other states just to get into any kind of good hunting and fishing; well I came in a few months back and was extremely fed up so I put our house and 20 acres up for sale; sold the place and signed the papers yesterday saying goodbye to the home of 20 plus years;
I am 49 years old and life is passing by quickly; even at my age I still have a dream and decided that I will not let it die; my wife{of 31 years}and I are renting a duplex{very nice} for now until we see where we will go; I plan to stay with my current job{for now}but am looking real hard for a job that will allow me to enjoy and engulf the outdoors reguardless of where that job leads me;
Folks, life is just too short not to try and make your dreams come true; so here we go, wish me luck and stay tuned to see what happens next...... :campfire:
YAAAAHHHHH BOOOYYYYYY wish I had the sacks to do that. :notworthy:
I admire a man with a sack...I mean uhhhh :D
Seriously, good luck in your pursuit. I can vouch for So. Illinois having excellent game opportunity both big and small for a bowhunter. At least where I'm at the economy hasn't seemed to affect us much either.
Dusty
Good Luck  :notworthy:
Best of luck to you!
May God speed your journey! Good Luck!
Wow. That takes a lot of cajones in this economy to do that. Good luck to you, and I hope you find what you're looking for.
I gotta say you have a great wife to jump in like that with you. Your right. It is time to find your hunting and fishing paradise and then s ettle in for life. Lots of good areas to go to. God Speed and Good Hunting.
Well wishes sent your way. Good Luck!
Travis
Great for you and best of luck. Thought the same thing many times. Well 19 more years to get my youngest through school, hopefully I will still have my health to get out of the burbs!
I like Kentucky and Colorado the most for game opportunites. Good luck on your journey! Should be fun.
Way to go! I'm doing the same thing. Already bought a place in Kentucky and trying to sell my place in Maine.
Kentucky's hunting and gardening beats Maine all hollow.
Jim (still in Maine)
Thats awesome brother! Grab life by the horns and go for it! Good luck!
Best of luck!!!!!

out standing. just absolutely out standing....
I'm from Northwest Arkansas. Just head west on 412 untill about Hunstville or so and stop there. More good, avalialbe, hunting and fishing than you can do in two lifetimes. I've spent plenty of time in NE Ark. I know what ya mean. Not much of a place.
good luck go for it!!!
Well wishes from WV. I have been priviledged to grow up in an area that offers lots of outdoor opportunities... not great economic opportunities, but that's OK!
I'd rather be hunting or fishing anyway!
Blessings...
Life is too short. Good for you! Good luck. Keep us posted!
North to Alaska!! :campfire: :archer:
It's not often I can honestly say I get to experience the real pioneer spirit. I can say I think you are showing us a wonderful example of it. Good luck and God speed.
God bless,Mudd
if you never pursue your dreams they remain just that.
Thats awesome, I wish you well.
A man after my own heart! Good luck, brother. My prayers are with you.
Good luck whereever you settle, best wishes to you, I am a few years kid wise before I can do the same
Best of luck to you!!! Hope you get to live your dreams!! :campfire: :clapper:
Best of luck! Shoot straight!
Thats awesome, pretty fortunate myself but I've still felt like doing exactly what you've done! Best of luck.Sounds like you made a wise decision rather than live your life and wonder what if!
I've done that twice in my life.
I never looked back.
Good luck and enjoy!!!
Major amounts of good luck wished your way. Keep us informed.
I'm a little over a year from retiring from a career in the fire service. I have dscussed with my wife my dream of Alaska, living in the SE region, hunting and fishing. It is a huge undertaking, and one I am giving a serious amount of consideration and research.
In my years working as a firefighter and paramedic, I have learned one thing for sure, and learned it well. Life is short. Too short to spend it toiling away at a job that, when you leave, they'll forget you in a matter of days, or weeks, and the place will purr right along without you.
My dream is to move to a place I can wake in the morning with a buffet of options outdooors. Camp, fish, hunt, shoot, explore, and see the things I want, when I want, on my terms. To build a small comfortable log home for my wife and I, a good sized boat to fish from, and to transport me to distant hunting areas. I would love to do it in SE Alaska, but I have a couple other spots to research as well.
Kudo's to those to who have forged ahead with thier dreams, and realized them to one extent or another.
I laid to rest a good friend this week, who passed unexpectedly at 42. A man full of life, and a giver in every sense of the word. Life is short, too short to barter with your dreams.
A dream left unpursued is an opportunity lost forever. We too often let lifes day to day distractions and challenges steal them from us.
While I dream of Alaska, if for some reason it doesnt happen, I do have a perfectly acceptable alternative. God willing sometime next year I will hang up my boots and helmet, and start the next chapter. I've been blessed with a good job and a great family. and the ability to dream, and pursue them.
Hope you find that greener grass friend. Mostly, I hope you recognize it when you find it 8^). Good luck.
Well if your wife is behind it then your ok..makes no difference what we think, but we all wish you two the best.
I could do with less winter, but to move out of the yukon would be a tough one, but who knows can't always be where I want to be...I have a wife of 28+ years and she has dreams too...just hope there is hunting and fishing there :D
Jer Bear
Good luck.
GOOD FOR YOU!!! GOD BLESS
BIG BRAAAAAASSSSS ONEEEEESSSSS Good luck in whatever you do. Widow
Vay to go I am sure you'll never look back.
What Autumarcher said! Some people never really understand how short life is until you live it / see it when on duty. Life is here one day and can be gone the next without notice but in a blink of an eye just like that. Enjoy my friend as I would LOVE to do the same. GOOD LUCK
I admire your decision. To answer that calling that resides in one's heart is truly admirable. I wish you and your wife the best. May God be with you and yours always. T
Good for you,and good luck!
Best of luck on your new chapter!
i admire a man who sticks to his dreams. diligence percerverence and striving to move foward always pays off sooner or later. the best of luck to you and your family
"Once more into the Breach!"
All of us on Trag Gang are pulling for you!
God Speed my friend.
So many guys on Trad,(me included)wish they had done the same...I had to wait till I retired, but at least I still made out of the city.
good luck to you!
I read your thread this mornin' and almost answered it! I grewup in NE Arkansas..I know your feelin's!! I left there in 1970, after 24 years in the Army, retired in 1994. Lived in Texas since... I spend as much time as I can in Id, Wy and Montana. It's time for me to move on as I'm gettin old and hurt more each day! Good luck! God Speed!! :campfire:
:notworthy: Way to go! Good Luck on your endeavors! :clapper:
I'm happy for the both of you and wish you both the best. Life is too short, live it to the fullest and fulfill those dreams!
Fallow your dreams and dream BIG!Good luck and best wishes.
We bit the bullet and made the big move 5 years ago. Stressful for a bit but well worth it in the long run!
My dream is to be able to afford a house with a workshop so I can start making my own trad bows. As soon as I make as much money at that as I do my real job, BY BY real job.
go for the gusto or stay home :wavey:
well if you want terrible deer hunting, Maryland is the place to be :knothead: , no really we are the ONLY state in America that a person can accomplish the "trout slam", plus some of the best waterfowl in the US, along with maryland blue crabs! And to top it off a great pop of sikas!

Good luck and remeber the old saying "No guts, no glory"
I've been thinking of retiring (when and if that day ever comes) across the state from you "somewhere" south of Fayetteville...
Bears, deer and hogs in beautiful mountains with easy winters.
Best of luck!
Congratulations on the sale and good luck on finding what your looking for! Me and my family live in Deep East Texas and good fishing and hunting are easy to come by here. Although I enjoy it here, I want to retire to S.W. Arkansas...I love that area.
Ya you got it right, life is to short.Go for it my man.The best I can do is buy some land an hour away, but that will put me in prime huntin and fishin.
I hope and will pray that all your dreams come true.
Good on ya ! What sort of work you looking for and what type of traditional bowhunting you looking to do ?
MN has some excellent secret spots. ... but if I had my druthers I'd say WI is a heck of place to live ....well, if AK is out anyway. :\\ ;)
Man, it takes alot...my wife and I've been kicking that around for years, but have been too chicken to make the move!...good luck!
I would move to the Ozarks!
I lived 4 years in Hotsprings, the ouachitas are nice but the ozarks are awesome!, wife and I are already talking about moving back
Barry I know exactly how you feel. I am 57yrs old and want to do some traveling before the time comes to settle down. My problem is I have 8 acres and so much invested in my house and barns, that I belive with this economy I would loose my shirt if I tried to sell out right now. I want to do like you and move into a smaller place for a base of operations then I can travel and hunt different places. Good luck on your endeavor.
Thanks to each and everyone for your words of encouragement; big steps but will make them by the grace of God; looking towards Mississippi or Alabama but might keep a small base here in arkansas but move towards ozarks; would love to work for mossy oak camo in some capacity but if that doesn't work out, would love to guide for 6 months and then work during the summer months back here in Arkansas at some kind of fishing resort; we do have some of the best trout waters in the country and Arkansas has alot of different kind of fishing;
Would love to guide for Giles Island or Tara Point in Mississippi; looking fordward to getting started; thank you all.... :campfire:
