Calm down everybody... Caaaaaaalm down. Not trying to stir the pot here, but this is a legit question...
My brother is looking to sell his Bob Lee and his Ancient Spirits for a takedown recurve. He likes the weight of the Dura-wood take down Bob Lee's which are comparable to the Black Widow as well.
He wants something in 47 - 50# range, probably 58 or 60". Needs to pull smooth as silk, and have enough speed for a smaller arc for his Cedars... (Gap Shooter)
My dad has a BW PSA right in that spec range, and I will be aquiring a Dakota Take-down tomorrow for a "test-run" which is also in that spec range. Doesn't look like a hands on test of a Kwyk Styk will come any time soon though...
We want the Good, Bad, and Ugly on the comparison of these bows.
Thanks guys,
Matt
Are you talking about a Dakota from Rick Welch? If so, you will love that bow.
I own and shoot both BW and BL. Can't say about the others. BW is the better performer, but the price difference is pretty significant. If you can find one of the BLs in the "Durawood Sale" list, grab it. Both outfits have super customer service, as well.
You know my answer ;) Believe me when I tell you they're worth waiting for
Never shot a Dakota, but if Rick makes it, I'm sure they're great bows as well
I have a PSA X and im shooting it better than my ACS and my Morrison ILF.
My Widow is by far the easiest bow i have ever set up and got it to shooting darts.
I agree with Curt about the new widow, i bet that bow would be a lot of fun to shoot.
I have a Bob Lee T/D longbow and a Black Widow recurve both at the same wieght,51# @ 29". both bows are = in performance. The Lee is 58" long ,the Widow is 62" long. Had a Kemph recurve [older model] thats was 45#@28 58" long. Good shooter and smooth. The grip was a little to High wrist for me, but a nice bow. Its hard to tell you which way to go as everyone has different likes and dislikes. All I can say is good luck in your quest!!!And have fun!!!
I recently shot a BW SA 53@28 and a Kwyk Styk 58@28, both bows were awesome. I was partical to the Widow b/c the weight is more what I am used to. I think either bow would be a good choice.
Seriously, all the bows you mentioned are quality bows, excellent workmanship, great shooters and built to last.
I have shot Widows, never shot a Lee but as a dealer for Kempf....his Kwyk Styk with the Static limb design is by far the smoothest drawing bow I have ever shot. Speed wise....will match any bow on a apples to apples test.
I honestly don't think you will go wrong with any of the bows. Matter of your personal preference and how long you want to wait and price. Keep The Faith.........
I have a Kwyk Styk on order with jack. Never shot the bow, but always heard good things about it.
For something in the 50# range, 60" and smooth as silk and quick, I would seriously look at the Shafer Silvertip. I have one of Dave's bow with the following spec: 60" 52# at 28". Its smooth and fast although they are expensive.

Trying to pick between some of the sweetest shooters out there is tough! Personal preference what it's gonna come down to. I haven't shot a Dakota but can say that both the others are great. IMO the Styk is faster but the BW is smoother and prettier...if any of that matters. Have fun picking....I'm sure you can't go wrong!
I have a Lee and just sold my Widow due to changing from righty to lefty. The Lee is a good, solid shooter but is out classed by the Widow.
They all are spoke well of. Just look around and widows are all around plus they will ship you one to try. Not sure about the other 2. Widow and Dakota have websites to get lots of info. Just can't find much on Kwyk Styk except everyone that has one loves it.
Dave
Cant go wrong with a widow. Dont know about the other two. I would like to have my psa v back
I have a Rick Welch Dakota Hunter and have owned 2 Black Widows (PSAX & MAII), and I am currently on the list for a Kwik Stik.
I think Rick's recurves are superb. They are fast, forgiving and a with a wonderful custom grip. The fit and finish is pretty good too.
I like the Widows as well, especially the extra handle mass, and I've got a PCH on my wish list.
But .... I just LOVE the Dakota Hunter, same as Jon!
Thanks for the great info guys!
I am a Bob Lee fan myself. I love my classic in durawood.
Can't wait to shoot the Dakota tomorrow. My dad has a PSA, so a side by side with the Dakota is going to be real interesting...
Now I just have to get a Right Handed (right Guru... right) Kwyk Styk in my hands.
I'll keep you guys posted on the Dakota vs BW front.
Matt
Personally I like the Kwik Stik have owned Widows but the static tips are a killer.
Shot widows own a KWYK STYK!!!
I have had the opportunity to shoot all three and must say all are shooters.
Because of grip styles that I shot the Kwyk Styk was my favorite...followed closely by the Dakota...and not to far behind that was the BW but with a different grip the BW might edge out the Dakota.
Again all are great bows and I would be happy to have any of them in my rack.
