These are made from the exotic european polarbear :biglaugh: , or some might call it the downright southern possum :jumper: , I am a trapper, not a good one, but I do trap, and normally folks around here will catch about 2 possums every other coon, lol. So I caught myself a possum last year, and being the home tanner I am wont let anything go to waste!(the meat looked great), so I tanned it.
FYI, that tiny peice of leather that alot of you guys like as your grip probably takes as much time to tan as the bow takes to make! Not really but tanning is a ton of work! But in this case, these bad boys have created the absolute quietest shot from a bow that I have ever heard!

They look cool, but do you worry about a whitetail seeing them and being alarmed.
well that is my thought, and why I havent put them on my "main" bow, I will probably use them on my "main bow" and dye them brown using the black walnut juice I use to dye my traps? That might make them sticky? But it is not like I will be wasting a valuable fur!
That sounds good to dye them you could go with RID dye that stuff works good and it cheeeeep!Don't think it will ruin the fine fur you got!
Surely your joking. A whitetail is not going to see your natural oppossum fur silencers. Chris don't worry about the dye. Looks good to me.
Al
Your silencers look real good,How was the stew?Luke
In our residential southern New Jersey they will!
looks great to me!Ive never seen a deer afraid of a possum! :)
great idea, my yarn puffs don't seem so "home made" now.
Chris, once again I am impressed. Tanner, trapper, traditional archer, crack .22 shot. Not to mention your skills with camera and computer. Where do you get all that knowledge and skill? My hat is off to this fine young man.
thanks guys, I dont neccesarily think that the deer will be afraid of them. I am more worried about the hunters :knothead: , not really that white just clashes with my brown bow, lol
I like them just the way they are.Very nice!

Possum silencers, now that sounds like something a good old southern boy should have come up with. You know, You might be a redneck if you have possum silencers on yer bow string.
Seriously, I like them...a lot.
Very nice!

really? out of all the things a deer could spot, you believe that the silencers would give you away. i don't think for a second that those would pose any problems.... i'd use them without a second thought.
very cool use of the possum
Thats COOL!
thats a cool idea!!! now i want to trap a possum. :bigsmyl:

Cool. At the risk of once more showing that I'm as trad is I wanna be, bet my recurves set up with Sims String Leeches are more quiet, not to mention much more visually subtle in the field...
Chris,I get something like that in one of my bows and it always worked good, made its job and is passed unseen.Lot of whites in the woods.
Very nice, I would leave them like they are. Wish I had a pair of thoose.
thanks everyone, this possum would definatly be like high dollar if there were such a thing, lol. It was just a all around great looking critter, normally they are like giant rats, but all the ones I have seen around here in the farmland, are puffy, and cudely!
As SkottyBoy said, I'm impressed.....now.... did ya cook up that ther' 'possum and et' it? 8^)
I have not eaten him yet! But I am going too, We have been eating everything else, it was a lean little bugger though, really looked like a giant rabbit! I am looking forward to it!
Mark,you have a PM.

Doctari... I believe Larry @ Lost Nation carries them...888.800-7880 along with several other types of fur.
a company seriously makes possum silencers! I suppose it makes sense they have some good fur for silencers, and they are cheap!
Yes,I have a pair that I got at Denton hill several years ago on a pearson bow that I don't shoot a lot not sure if too much of something was used in the tanning process but mine thinned out fairly quick, weren't as durable as the beaver but did do a good job while they were on.Hopefully you'll have better success with yours good job on finding a use for a "worthless" hide and putting the effort into working up one of the greasiest animals there is to skin, flesh out etc.
yea I dont know how mine are gona do, I didnt really soften the hide any, so it was kinda stiffish, I softened it without oil, so it is not at all soft, but flexible. So we will see. I still have till the 15th of march to catch my buddies pesky beaver, so then I might have beaver balls for life!!! If not I am definatly going to try and catch at leaset a muskrat, he has them pretty thick over there too. So I will finally get to set some traps today for them!
