Alright, those of you who've shot 'em, what can you tell me. I love ramin, but all I have access to are hardware store 3/8" dowels. Between sanding down for spine and weight, not to mention sorting for grain, they can be a bit tiring to produce. Plus, most are more egg-shaped than round. The idea of having ramin ARROW SHAFTS at my disposal sounds just great. So, what do you think of them?
I've got some 5/16 ramin from Twig archery and its the best arrow wood that I have used IMO. Tuff stuff, stays straight, and hits hard. The grain is hard to see and some stains don't take well so it doesn't make as pretty as arrow as cedar but for a hunting arrow, it don't get any better than ramin.
Vary true statement from SuperK. Cant say enough about Twig, great guy, really knows his trade, wicked old world skills. I got some 2nds from his store just to try them. Wow, Twigs Ramins are great and will be my go to shaft. :knothead:
Have to second and third what is already said.....
Ramin woods is some tuff stuff. John (Twig Archery) is a great guy to deal with. He makes some awesome arrows and really knows his stuff.
A fourth for the above. John is a good guy and makes a mean arrow.
#5  Great shafts.
Chris, I have had a couple dozen from Twig archery. I ended up trading em off, but they were A. Very straight already B. weight matched to within 10-15 grains C. Perfectly round D. They all spined in at 52 or 53#, and were marked 50-55.
I dont think you will be sad to make that purchase.
Thanks guys. Looking for a real tuff shaft that'll last awhile. Love hickory, but hey, who doesn't love to tinker.
Talked with John for 10-15 minutes last night; what a guy. He sure knows his stuff too. Heck, he's probably forgotten more about wood shafting than most folks know...
Anything you get from their is awesome I'll never get wood shafts anywhere else the 5/16 ramin are great for penetration and not sacrificing much weight at all.
I will never buy wood shafts from anyone else. John is the best I know of and a great guy to deal with also....The ramins are tough, and you will only get the best shafts from John.
i just googled him but dont find a wed site for him does he have one?
Jim,
No website, I will PM you his phone # when I get home this afternoon if you want it.
swp, Please em me the same info. I am always fiddling with shafts and would love to buy some ramins to try out for stump shooting. I have been looking for some really tough stumping arrows and these sounds like just the ticket. If they are tough enough I may just decide to hunt with them too.
Great arrows. I have used his seconds for squirrel hunting and they are tough. I bought 8 dozen seconds and stump shooters from him for $40. I made up a set of ramins for Morgan and they were great shafts. I have honestly never seen that quality of shaft for the price. I plan to buy alot of shafts from him next time I am over that way. ALso a great guy to deal with.
