I was up early this morning 1am vomiting from some kind of stomach bug, and stumbled across a program on the balkan mountains in bulgaria. The program showed un touched land that they referenced many times to be where Tolkin may have come up with middle earth. Funnily enough I thought tonight, I would look to see about the hunting possibilities. I found out that on january 23 2009 they opened up hunting in bulgaria to bowhunters. I have never been so excited. I have never been away from ohio to hunt and I think I am going to look into going to the Bulkan mountain range to hunt. Flights are cheaper than going to Alaska. If you get a chance look at the landscape of bulgaria and I believe you will also be love struck with the beauty. Red stag, Roe buck, Wild boar, Mouflon, Fallow buck, Chamois, Wolf, Jackal, and Fox are the huntable species with a bow. I don't care what I hunt I just want to see the beauty of the country (while hunting)! :) Check it out if you get a chance. Heres a link. celticknot,
I caught the program last night also.
If you can, can you remind me what network that was on? I feel asleep and don't recall. Gotta love being sick.
Excellent show for sure. If anyone is looking for it, it was on the PBS program "Nature".
Yep Jeff's right... Them hogs were something else. Momma didn't want the piglets around them fish ..
That unmolested land was beautiful
looks just dandy !!!
I put up a link to the full episode if you want to watch it again.
it is beautiful country! I was there on a hitch-hiking trip two years ago.
And as for cost, i dont know about hunting fees, but with a normal "western-income" youll be the rich guy around. Just beware of the homebrewn wodka! First: :scared: Second til tenth: :knothead: :help:
hey I don't mind being the rich guy. LOL
I've been in Albania a couple times. Allow plenty of time there will be delays is my first advice!
I watched that show also, What country,
Years back I visited the Greek Island my mother is from. There are small unihabited islands that were "stocked" with game from Africa by the King of Greece many years back. He was a Hunter and wanted his own hunting grounds. The local people were forbiden on stepping foot on them. Guess what, the animals have survived. They are some sort of antelope that look like an Ibex. They are visible when you sail around the island on the cliffs.
My uncle, during WW2 during the occupation of Greece by the Germans, used to sneak off in the middle of the night to the island to hunt and feed the town.
From a little tot, I've been dreaming of a way to get to that island with a bow. Unfortunately Greece does not allow any bowhunting.
Man it must be nice to be able see these places in person. If i do go on htis trip it will be my first out of state hunting trip let alone my first over seas.
I wasn't hunting boar when I was in Kosovo and Bosmia, but in both places I had an opportunity to partake of boar on a spit. Good eating.
