You come home to this....
Ol' Gauge the (bow hunting) Gun Dog Sr. is something else...

These aren't staged photo's... I had this bow on my table just putting a string on it..
I get home from work and do my rounds of saying hi to Gauge, start dinner, call my soon to be Bride, etc....
I hear this "CLANK!!!".. I know what it is, but so un-like Gauge to chew on anything. I get up and this is what I find. I did tell him to sit and stay so I could get a picture..
Yep, Spring need to get here..
For the record, the bow is fine...
Happy hunting,
Todd

Cool Pics! I know how he feel's... Jason

cute pic, i would have blown a gasket :)
my dog even goes by my bow and i say NO in a stern voice. i had my bow on the living room floor once, unstrung, and was playing with one of his toys. he likes to go fetch like many dogs and before he grabs the toy he'll stomp on it. he looks like a polar bear trying to break thru the ice, very funny. so anyway i'm playing with him, he gets really excited and runs over and stomps on my super kodiak..... i jumped up and yelled NO! needless to say he doesn't bother my bows anymore :)
-
Great photos! Looks like a smart dog that's ready to work.
I had a recurve laying across the arms of an overstuffed easy chair. The string was down and the riser was leaning against the back. I walked in the room and saw my kids' 9 pound Shih Tzu up on the chair's arm straddling the limb tip. His head was down, apparently chewing on the raw wool silencer. Before I could yell at him, the string popped and the limb caught him under the belly. Launched that dog pretty fast. He banged against the ceiling and then thumped on the floor. He laid still for for a minute before staggering off. Doesn't seem too interested in my bows now... :readit: :jumper:

Cool pic. He's waitin' by the back door, too!

how cool is that, you and your dog must have a great relationship.there is nothing like it out there in the world to be friends with an animal with lots of character :goldtooth:
-
Beautiful lab and smart he knows you can go stump shooting anytime.

I love that dog :clapper: :goldtooth:

Good boy, Gauge! My labs only find & retrieve arrows...
-
THANKS for the new wall paper. looks like ya'll need to take a walk in the bunny patch. Does wonders for those winter blues
-
That is awesome. What a great looking and smart dog.
-
smart dog, seems gauge is getting the spring fever also.
-
Great shot.....I miss my Lab
-
Now that photo needs to be on Traditional Bowhunting Magazine's cover. That is one of the best things I've seen in awhile. My lab would rather have a biscuit.
-
Great pic and a nice lab. I know my lab gets pretty excited when I pull out my bow. She will get as excited about shooting the bow as she dose hunting ducks. She gose to the range every time I do,and will run to the bow and quiver and demand to take her if I been slacking.
-
My lab died a while back, but I still miss her. I still have a little plaque that has a picture of a lab, and says "May I be the person that my dog thinks I am". Still trying.
-
Good looking dog they are some kinda smart arent they.
DD

Now that's truely man's best friend!

"That's A Gooooood Boyyyyyyy!"

My kinda dog. You know they have a special place in the scheme of things. Look what their name is when spelled backwards! The Greart Spirit knew what he was doing when he named this special animal, and designated him as "man's best friend"! :bigsmyl: :clapper: Their soul is very deep and honest.
-
Great pic! Looks like he has a soft mouth, if not, a stipple grip is in the making!8^) Labs are special, they have been a part of my family for 35+years. Took their nickname (ottertails) for my handle.
Mine couldn't wait for deer season to end, as they watched & whined when I walked out the door headin' for the woods (waking up the wife & kids). Their excitement if I came back smelling of a deer being taken, was well......yes, they were part of getting the deer home. And I actually think they...at times were dissapointed when I didn't. So much for missing just me...
But once the season ended...they knew! Stumpin, shed huntin', post season scouting, mushroom huntin' etc., they were my constant companions.
I apologize for being longwinded, or, now that I think about, if I hijacked your post....just getting a little sentimental I guess....soon I'll have to bury Jake (13 1/2 yrs yellow) next to his mentors.
Ol' Gauge looks like a good one!....Hope you didn't scold him too bad. 8^) .....ottertails

Killie,
My boy is certainly a Prince among dogs, but you are the biggest sweetheart among Tradgangers...
Hunterace,
Oh, Gauge is only rough when he wants to lick your ear. He goes through great extreams to accomplish this goal.. He has the softest mouth a lab could have. There aren't any teeth marks on the bow... I almost blew a gasket my own self..
Lab owners know the potential they have to chew on things. When he was about 6 months old, I turned my back on him for a short time, and the biggest piece of my cell phone was the zero button. He's long since outgrown chewing on things.. Unless it a chew toy raw hide..
Knife River,
Funny funny story! I can't help but study your avatar every time I read one of your post. That is one of my favorite pictures!
Tracy,
I can't wait.. Niether can Gauge! He told me to tell you, you better be ready for a double ear licking!
Ryan,
Man, if you only knew... Ugh..
Mr. Stout,
Thanks, friend! I thought about sending it in as Mr. Thomas is a dog man himself.. I think I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for your input.. God bless..
Hedge Apple,
That's "our" bow. Just ask Gauge..
Ottertails,
If I left Gauge home when I went hunting, he would diss-own me and run away. That would be the worst thing I could do to him. He gets scolded once in a while, but he has to do a whole lot more then say, "Get your arrows and lets go!" Labs are indeed special. Dogs in General are though...
Boznarras,
I need to get my hands on one of those plaques..
Everybody else,
Thanks so much for your comments. They sink deep..
Happy hunting,
Todd

Bad boy :bigsmyl:

Too cool! After lifetime of dogs, what a gift to be a dog owner. I have learned more from my dogs about humility, loyalty, joy, good faith, humour, courage and patience than from any human being. Guage is a treat!
chrisg
-
He's a special partner for sure :clapper:
-
That is friggin' awesome! Man I miss having a dog. Give your boy a treat then take him out stumping and shed hunting. Great stuff right there!
-
Custom grip stippling???
-
Glad I found this thread again. I have a suggestion for you concerning your bow. Alot of tradgangers have named their bows and it's a time honored tradition amongst us. With that said I believe your bow has earned a new nickname. I think you should call her/him "dog breath" I think the name fits and is kind of a cool name.
-
It is a pretty new to me bow...
Dog breath it is..
Thanks,
Todd

I had to put my 15 year old lab down on Friday. I'm missing her...your pic reminded me. :(

Hey Ben!!! I resemble that remark! I only drool when I'm alone or with somebody...
Killy, She is beautifull. What's her name?
Thanks everybody..
Todd

My lab is 19 months old, and I've learned to keep everything up so she can't reach it, though lately she's brought me her "finds" undamaged. You have a great dog.

Todd, meet Spirit. (Good pal Bernie has her 6, while Doc Nock prepares to feed her something guaranteed to make her release something noxious in the tent at 2:30 AM.) :D

Hey Killdeer Spirit looks a lot like a WSL.
I have one and she's the only one of her breed in the state of Missouri that I'm aware of.
I love the picture even if she's of a different breed.
God bless,Mudd
