I asked some ?'s before now on my third set of dipping and fletching arrows and I still have problems with the duco cement.I dipp the arrows dry them for 2 days and then do water based poly for floors 2-coats then dry by my heater for 2-days.When I add the fletching the duco eats through the poly,The feathers stay on no problem but it looks like crap with the not so clean contact of feather to shaft.What could be the problem? :confused:

The glue is suppose to "eat through the poly". I think the "crap" comes from too much duco.

yea duco will eat through it all and hold forever. It will also eat through plastic nocks with too much and inproper handling. Use a smaller amount and it won't look bad. Also run your finger along the quill to wipe off excess once it is placed on the shaft.

I take the cap from a used tube of duco and drill a small hole in it and use it on the new tube to dispense just the right amount of glue. Works pretty well and does'nt look like crap.

That right there is an awesome idea!That insane size hole is rediculous for trying to glue feathers. :rolleyes:

I had the same thing happen to me when I started making arrows, I switched to all Bohning products, problem solved.

I didn't like the the excess glue or the 8 minute wait for the glue to dry between each feather. I switched to fletching tape.

don't glue the fletchings, use the bohning fletch tape.

I will try the tape but I do notice that shafts that i buy that already have poly on the the duco doesnt eat it up .Could it be the water based poly?

Not all glues are compatible with all finishes. It's best to stay with a single manufacture. Duco works well with GL but I like the glue they make that is the same compound.

I went to fletching tape it works great and is fast I use a small drop on the front and back of each feather.

That is I use a small drop of fletching glue on the front and back of each feather.

Just finished my first set with fletch tape and the only duco I will be using is the dot of it on the front and back of each feather !!!
I use Dalys Profin for my clear dip topcoats and when fletching with duco it melts right down into the Dalys and is almost invisible. Looks like the feathers are just sitting on the arrow with no glue line. Looks awesome and holds great.
Jerry, awesome idea bud about drilling an old cap !!! Makes you want to kick yourself sometimes and say DUH! Why didn't I think of that ??? Don't you just love tradgangers !!!

I will jump on the pile here and say fletch tape is the way to go. Glue can be messy but the fletch tape gives a nice clean look and with just a drop at either end of the feather holds great.
I use water based sealer on all my arrows and have never had a problem with it. Both fletch tape and CA super glue hold like iron.

My only problem with fletch tape is it melted in the summer here in Texas. I was at a shoot and had my feathers start to slide back to natural shape. Others in my group had the same thing happen.
Went back to glue. It's messy and time consuming but it does stay in place.

Duco does hold the fletch great but I dont like the way it melts the poly I will try using less and I'm gonna post some pics of what it looks like.

Use SAUNDERS NPV Fletching Cement.......Best I have EVER Used!
