As all of you in AR know we had a substantial amount of snow here in White County. Ever the outdoorsman and hunter I didn't let that stop me from chasing a fine buck I have been seeing lately.
I wrapped up in lots of layers of wool and hit the woods. I kind of thought that since it rarely snows here in my part of the sunny south hunting in the snow would be educational. I would be able to track the buck and hopefully get an arrow into him with my longbow.
The snow did indeed help with the tracking but getting a clear shot was impossible. Had to watch him walk away at a mere 8 yards.
Since snow is such a rarity in my area I was wondering how you folks pull off the shot when the snow is deep like this?

Aim a little lower and a little more to the right of where you think...
And of course, no less then a 400 grain single bevel head mounted on a 150 grain arrow being shot out of an 85# bow will do..
Great picture! Thanks for sharing...

That a Christmas card right there.
Sure feels like we got that much up here in walnut ridge PAC. Have not seen this much in a long time.
Be careful pac, I hear those snow bucks can be tricky. He might have his turned backward to fool ya. :smileystooges:
That sure is a lot of snow when only his antlers are above it!
N wonder you couldn't get a shot! ^^
:knothead: :biglaugh:
:biglaugh: that is to funny.
:biglaugh:
Sorta reminds me of bow fishing!
Geezum...you must live in the south. You can still see them antlers clear as day. :saywhat:
:biglaugh:
Just jump on him and 'rassle' him down.Looks like in that snow ya might have to come up for air a time or two. Just be a bit cautious where ya jump on him.
:clapper: Good one!!!!!!
Had a storm like that up here in '91. ;)
:biglaugh: Now thats funny.I gess he cant tell your shooting at him.
Tryin' to rattlin' in a cagey Snow buck is *particularly* challenging - it requires a certain kind of mufflin' effect on the sound - try practicin' it sometime....
:~)
Shoot straight, Shinken
As you can see he was coming right to me. I still can't figure out how he winded me and turned away.
Good Snow Camo!
Just sneak up behind him and plunge a knife into his heart. That'll do it. Or you could strangle him with your bare hands...
Pac must have been that yellow snow.
its been a bit of a rough day, and that pic made me laugh. thanks for posting it.
You don't have that much snow - his antlers are still visible!
Good one...
:biglaugh: That`s pretty funny.I`d jump on his back and try and ride him for awhile.Just hold on to his antlers to steer him right or left. :jumper: Yee-Haaa.

That is the ticket, you need a bowfishing rig, and launch em in there!
Shoot low
:biglaugh:
Hahaha! At least now you guys down south know why I lose so many arrows over here.
We're use to hunten in in deep snow here in Pa.
We tunnel under them and shoot up at em. We call it moleing for bucks. Hope this helps!!
Becareful of snow snakes, they are extremly poisonous, an so hard to see being that they are all white:>) Later Bob
