All right, before I hear all the "Your still a young whipper-snapper" remarks  I AM only 34------BUT, having 2 surgeries on the same knee---I think it's at least 20 yrs. older than it should be :smileystooges:
A-N-D she's OUT OF HERE!!!!
Surgical repairs and cold--NOT a good combo, apparently!
Then the peanut gallery shows up--3 squirrels start running around and I figure if I have to give up the turkeys and loose the deer, I ain't messing around skinning a tree-rat :bigsmyl:
Time for supper and coffee!
:archer:
That sucks! I am surprised that the glare from the walker didn't scare her or the crinkling of the depends...LOL :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I feel your pain ,but I had to crack on ya.
I hear what you're saying - but I'll be 62 in September - so I AM old! The 'pop, pop, pop' is the sound I get from my elbows and shoulder when I start to draw . . .
Watch one of the shows with the guys who aren't mobile out hunting.
As we get older, things get tougher and finally impossible. Don't be in a hurry to get there.
Pop'n elbows, knuckles, knees and sometimes my neck, welcome to my world, it's hell to get old and your not there yet!! Just keep plugging along and enjoy as long you as you can tought it out.....
Two seasons ago I hunted with a compound bowhunter in Kansas who STOOD in his treestand all day. We were hunting the rut from dark to dark. Over eleven hours each day never leaving our stands.
He told me he can't risk sitting because he is afraid the deer will hear his knees pop when he stands to shoot his bow... LOL
After being amazed at this all I could say to him is that I would practice shooting from the treestand seat...
Just had surgeries 11 and 12 on Jan.7th. One was a second time on my left knee. But the great news was, I got permission to shoot bows at K-Zoo. This last season was tough because I needed the surgeries to get back to where I could get around without so much trouble. Looking forward to better times this year. Don't worry, be happy, those pops will muffle with time.

Bet you didn't know that those Limbsations from "Onestringer" can camo a walker pretty darn good!!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Your still young until you have a bed side commode in the blind and an o2 bottle instead of a camel back...LOL
QuoteIt Stinks getting old.......
Beats the alternative!
Snap! Crackle! Pop! and it ain't rice Krispies in my house either...
Arty Ritis is my constant companion.
Like Jeff said, beats a dirt nap!
Heck, I have to draw my bow every 15 minutes or so while on stand just to make sure my bow shoulder is "settled in". It probably isn't as loud as it seems to me, what with my shoulder close proximity to my ear......then again my hearing ain't as good as it once was! Mike
this may be my problem also! But my hearing isn't as good as it once was!
Getting old ain't for sissy's!!..lol
You gotta be tough if your going to get old....
even tougher if your gonna be stupid and get older too!
God bless,Mudd
Hey, I'm 53, a 2nd degree black belt in Jujitsu, and last night taught the first defensive tactics class of my 25th year as an instructor.
A good number of my baby cops were'nt even born when I started in LE. I cant even guess how many officers I've certified or how many classes I've taught over the years. When I was promoted to Deputy Chief last year and came off the road, we sat down and tried to figure out how many physical arrests I've made. Department consensus was in the neighborhood of 600...
I was so sore after class that I couldn't sleep laying down last night. Slept sitting up like a parakeet on the couch. When I got up both knees were swollen to the point I couldn't see my knee caps. It was an Aleve day at the LEC today. And there is no way in hell I would ever let my baby cops so much as see me wince...
So what did I do when I got home tonight? Fed the barn critters & my labs, then drug my sore behind downstairs and shot a couple dozen arrows with my Volcano... :D
Dang your 34!! I've got socks older then you. LOL
I've had 6 knee surgeries, a rebuilt ankle, foot surgery and that's just the lower body.
I make those same noises but that's getting out of bed.
Give it 25 yrs or so and see how it goes.
LOL
Mike
My left knee does the same thing. It is so loud that I set my tree stands so that the most probable shots i can do sitting down. If I am lucky and I can see or hear a deer coming a ways off I can get to my feet without alarming them. On some of my bigger stands I can sit so that I can keep my left knee a bit straighter and if i can do this I have no problem. If my knee is more than 90 degrees It sounds like a brach breaking.
I used to watch my father in the morning heading for the john making nosies like grunting, farting, sighs, and creaking all at one time. Now I am duplicating my fathers noises with a few new ones of my own.

I just KNEW one of these remarks was coming!! :biglaugh:
I'm glad I'm not the only one with noise-making problems! One good thing: I've got a major repaired shoulder due to motorcycle accident that is good enough for a 62# bow and doesn't make any noise---yet! Actually think it's stronger than original......
These noises get any louder though----maybe I should invent a new product: "The Joint Muffler"--a wool wrap (for warmth) with a NRPP rating of about 20 decibels for cold days and Trad-hunters who just NEED to be quiet!! LOL!
At least it ain't gas; I hear you but my problem is after sitting for an hour I can't get up fast - 2 back surgeries and loss of nerve function is a real kill joy.
Try flexing them every few minutes to keep them lubricated.
Same thing here with my right knee, and I always know when it is going to rain.lol
Turned 55 in November. Worked constrution for longer than your on the planet. :archer: :goldtooth:
Ben, wait just another ten years. I am 45 now, both knees, both shoulders have been done in the last two years. I have been rough on my body though!! I agree with the fish oil and keep active! Shawn
Ben, I'm 29 and have the same problems brother! When I'm in a stand or brush blind I'll try to crunch down and stretch a little and draw my bow a couple of times about every 30 minutes to an hour to get all the pops and cracks out. I know that's not possible when games around though but it helps when theres down time.
Looks like I'm gonna have to get me some fish oil too.
Dang sissy kids. My knees have been poppin since 1960 baseball season, and they still pop at 64. I still have them though, and the legs that accompany them...dang grateful to the good Lord for that. 34? son....I have clean socks that old 8^)))))).
I am 52 and am going to have laproscopic surgery on my right knee in a couple of weeks IF it will be OK to start scouting for turkeys by March 1. Done had my right shoulder done. Need my ankles fixed and left knee but that will have to wait till after turkey season. I aint doin none of it if I have to miss turkey season. It will have to wait. I hurt somthin aweful in most of my joints. Who ever said you have to be tuff to grow old was right. I set in a treestand 10 hours last week and had to stay in the bed for 3 days!
I'll be 62 in late Feb. I had a scope job on my right knee in 1994 and another on the same knee in 2004. In Oct. 2005 I had my left knee replaced in may 2006 my right knee replaced. Bad ankles and carpal tunnel in both hands/wrist and various other pains and noisy joints.
I have found it helps to do stretching exercises. Also, ride a bike. And go out and walk. I do better walking on dirt or grass rather than sidewalks or paved trails. Much easier on my ankles. Jim
Ok just stop it already ok.....geez louis
I wasn't sore at all but you all are making me that way. Power of suggestion.
Jer Bear
Getting old ain't for sissy's!!..lol your right Mudd. You folks think you have problems. In 1995 I had a heart valve replacement and it's not rubber or something soft and it makes noise. When I see a deer or good a looking lady it sounds like a marble in a tin can. Just try a get close to a deer with that problem. At 67 I'm still trying.
I am 41 and have had 3 knee surgeries. Somedays it just aches to ache.
As you get older you will realise that somethings just make noise and most you won't ever be able to explain. And somedays you just wake up with stuff hurting for no reason. at work we have named these "Old Man Injuries".
When I was in my mid 20's I worked with an older gentlemanthat had cancer. He would go and get his chemo treatments and then come back to work. Really tough old german dude. I use to give him a ride home on Friday nights. He use to tell me all the time-
" Getting old ain't for sissy's!!"
No truer words have ever been spoken.
Sounds like we ALL need to just start wearing ear plugs---then we won't hear all the cracks and pops we make!! :bigsmyl:
Guess the joints are one thing that don't "get better with age".......
Glad to see so many old ,decapitated folks still enjoying the hunt---gives me hope!!
:goldtooth: :goldtooth:
(Hope I didn't offend anyone with that one!)
At 56 (and counting), the old knees do pop every now and then, especially following any period of inactivity (like sitting in a treestand).
My bow arm, wrist and hand were kinda put back together after having a horse roll over on me (as they say; if you have horses, you are going to get hurt!). I ended up with a compression fracture that left everything about 3 inches shorter than normal. Basically all the bones pretty much disintegrated.
The orthopedic surgeon that put everything back together said I would have severe arthritis in that arm(/wrist/hand) within 5 years. This was over 17 years ago. I thank my lucky stars that arthritis hasn't reared its ugly head, but, I will admit to somewhat creaky elbows in both arms.
Creaks, pops, etc. are all part of getting older. Go with the flow, keep shooting, and hope that the animals don't ID you by hearing those noises.
39 now, had first back surgery at 35 and the second is around the corner. It is a challenge to drag a deer out of the woods anymore. Maybe because this spare tire around my waist is weighing more than some of the deer I am draggin. lol.
Keep the Faith!!It'll all come together!
Ben....it's dilapidated, not decapitated...that's a whole different cut...(pun intended). Even an old house...dilapidated if you will, will be a grand place as long as there is warmth inside and an appreciation for the life we are given.
Legs can ache....but we still have legs, and on a good day I can still jog into town without coughing up a lung, or bleeding from the eyes. Life is good....pay no attention to those snaps, crackles and pops. They simply mean those knees are still bending.
52 y/o old and knee surgery as well, a popping knee just doesn't sound like anything that ought to be in the woods to a deer. Lots of motrin, glucosamine and omega 3 capsules help but it's getting harder and harder to be sneaky.
You guys make me feel better about myself. It's some small consolation to know I'm not suffering alone. :biglaugh:
Have any of you guys seen, and remember, the opening scene of the movie "North Dallas Forty" with Nick Nolte? I watched that movie about a hundred times while on alert status duty in Korea, as it was the only movie we had. I used to laugh at him getting-up the morning after a football game. Now I am him.

Thanks George, for catching that one! It would be quite difficult hunting after being decapitated!!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I'm going back out after 'em this week......will be stretching the legs a couple times though when I can. I'd still like to know what a deer might imagine that sound means though, esp. when it's only a few feet from their head!! :bigsmyl:
