Just curious to know what your favorite feather cut's are. Any length. I like shields but can't stand the look of banana's. Just don't look right for some reason... :campfire:
i really do like flu flu the best, but of the others i would like sheilds
Nanners by far.
Next it's tied between shield and parabolic.
Opposite for me. I love the banana fletch. I have been using it for probably 20 years now.
I hear of a lot of people that like them. They just don't seem natural... :bigsmyl:
Shield first, parabolic second. That's what I use.
I like something like these. Lots of feather for stabilization and a little style too.

low profile banana cut, 4" four feather ...
shield first parabolic second.
3/4 banana or T-hawk
shield..
Traditional is my favorite, but shield is right there to.
shield and pope & young
My experience has been that other than one dozen LOW profile shields by Rod Kelley, I have never shot a dozen shields that did not have noisy arrows in the mix. I have owned and shot about the same number of parabolics and never had any noisy ones save part of one dozen with the wrong adhesive and the glue gave up in the middle of the fletch and they made noise like something out of a scary movie but not the fletching's fault.
Shield. High profile 5".
I have a 5.5 high back nana chopper, I use 4" feathers in it to give me a hybrid nana cut feather
I prefer 5" parabolic.
Banana is the best for me.
5.5 high back shield are the ones I like
shields
5.5 Shield first and a close Second 5.5 bananna
I like the way shields look but use parabalic.
Shields, 5" for 3-fletch and 4" for 4-fletch.
I'd like to try the Banana, but I don't know where to get them. Anyone know or is it something I have to make myself?

5.5" high profile shield cut by TruFlight
I have modified my Bananna chopper to chop 4 3/4" low profile nanners..works great.

5" shields for me in bright colors!
I just got started and using 5.5" t-hawk. I seen in another thread were some guys modified their chopper by raising the base and cutting more low profile cuts. I am going to try that on my next dozen and get a lower profile t-hawk.
Bananna just plain work!
I've always used parabolic, but I have a dozen 4" shields and am liking them.
I love shields (5") for the way they look...very traditional looking to me, however..........I hunt with 3 - 5" parabolics just because they make absolutely minimal noise!
I'm burning these, a little different, quite and fast.

I like the stability of large bananas. I've used them forever. Jon
shield 5" pink only way to fly :biglaugh:
5.5" high cut shields for self bow, they seem to give me the best flight, and 5" shields and 5" parabolic for recurve and longbow.
My vote goes for shield.
I like 5" Shield cut!

I shoot 4-4" shield cut,I really like the looks of bananas, but have never been able to get them quiet, even with a lower profile. Same goes forthe traditional cut, a bit too noisy for my liking, but really look cool.
As long as we're sort of on the subject..how much clearance is everyone leaving between the fletch and where the knock starts? Just curious if there is an optimum distance.
5" shield
5" parabolic
4-4" shield
Gottabow, I like to place the fletching about 1" from the groove in the nock. This allows me to be able to at full draw have the point of the feather touch my nose as another anchor pt.
4" low profile nanners. Very quite.
Awesome pics guys.
Quick question for all you nana lovers, what do you like about them? The shape, or do they fly better/quieter? Just curious is all.
I voted "other".
I used to use fletch exactly like what Guru showed and still do sometimes but to me that shape is not a true shield nor is it a Pope & Young either. Mainly due to the curve in the back edge. Shield is different and in P&Y it's not there at all.
For the last few years I'm mostly going with my own twist on a banana fletch. Here's a picture of it. I was going for a look similar to a chestnut oak leaf. Feather burners sure are a versatile tool eh?

Interestingly, this shape does NOT whistle like many banana cuts do.
My favorite for off-the-shelf is 3 5.5" Bananas with 4 4" Shields not far behind. I have some of each in my quiver. I don't have noise issues with either.
Craig
Dave, those are COOL! :bigsmyl:
I voted shield, but I've never really used any thing else...
low-pro banana's all the way. standard 3x120º
I voted other, because I use a 5.5 bananna feather chopper, but I cut my full length feathers down to the best usable 10in then in half. Next i use a "tomahawk" to trim them down to a lower profile....if im in a hurry to flech some arrows then I use 5in shield.......
Traditional, but I cut off the tip to get rid of the whistle.
51/4-51/2" Traditional shield I burn myself, seams to stabalize anything.I'm half deaf so it doesn't make any noise at all !
I like 5" shield, yellow, white or pink. They look good. I see them in flight, and since I am kinda deaf like Steve, they are very quiet. None of the deer I have shot complained about the noise either!
5 1/2" Floresent Chartruese Bannana Cut-- I like to see my arrows fly so I can root for them. Also provides better feed back training as the trajectory is more clearly visible. One of the joys of trad. archery is actually seeing the arrow cut thru the air-- anyway you can enhance the view is a good thing IMO.
Banana and t-hawk
I use a 5.5" Swift

Yes Dave, Feather burners are cool....that's how I got the one's you saw...

I was looking for something low profile and "different"...
Haven't noticed any extra noise either with the sharp back end...
I prefer the 4" shields all white but also shoot 4" parabolic. The ones I like the most are the ones that go where I am aiming.
So let me ask you nana guys, why? I have just started to experiment with the nanas the last couple of days to see if I can shoot my Snuffer 160's with a little less drag. Results are not in yet so I ask, Why use nanas instead of shield? Thanks.
Mike
I like the way they look. Also with the lower pro nanners I think there is less drag on the tail end..but thats just my thinking, I have no way to really tell..maybe its just in my head..
Mike-I use nanners just because they look cool. But I think they make a touch less noise than shields. Also handy if you use both RW and LW.A nanner chopper will cut both wings.
I also think they stabilize better. But it's all personal opinion here.YMMV.
Guru,
I got that shape like you showed from my old friend and mentor Bob Grauberger before he passed away. He and his Dad had used it since the 60's. They called it a Mongol fletch but I don't know if that is a correct term or not. I've always liked it. Stable, quiet and cool looking. Sometimes real wild turkey fletch will buzz a bit but I've never been certain if it was due to the tips at the aft end or from getting the curve too tall in the center. I think it is more likely the height in the center as banana's cut tall buzz worse than anything I've ever used.
I like the trad. cut or the pope & young!!!

Thanks.
Parabolic if I'm hunting just because they're quieter than shields.
T-HAWK & SHIELD
Shield 5" or 5.5" all the way.
