Well I recently have fallen in love with a new sport...
They are so challenging, and if you can get into them, you are guaranteed at least 10 - 15 shots in a day at these buggers. They are tough as nails too! No better way to lose arrows and have an excuse to make more cedars than squirrel Hunting! How didn't I start doing this sooner!
If you have some squirrel kill or squirrel hunting pictures lets get some posted, and hopefully someone else here will get into this great sport!
Here is me and my favorite hunting partner, one I killed and her first squirrel she killed all by herself. My daughter Brier and I both love squirrel hunting!!

I love shooting at squirrels. congrats
Been bowhunting squirrels for 45+ years. Next to deer hunting it's my favorite hunting !
It definitely is alot of fun. My son and I had an afternoon like you mentioned, plenty of shots but nothing to bring home.

Oh man, my deer hunt can turn into a squirrel hunt in a blink of an eye! Hard to hit and very tough critters!
Here's couple from my thread the other day found here: http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=083916;p=1

Hunting those crazy critters are more fun than I ever thought. Taking a kid with you only makes it 10 times more fun!
Squirrel hunting is a blast. I love deer hunting, but I probably do more squirrel chasing in a year than any other kind of hunting. Besides that, small game or large, you become a better shot at game by shooting at actual critters. At least around my neck of the woods, there's no other type of animal you can hunt where you're going to get as many shots as you do when you're hunting tree-rats.
Here's a couple eastern grays from southern Illinois...

Yeah, they make you a better shot. They also make you better at swearin'!
They are tough little buggers. Be thankful they aren't the size of deer!!!!
Here is a picture from a couple of weeks ago. The link to the thread on the Michigan forum is

Whew! They sure get big back east. Round here, the tree rat's are more like tree mice...
Sweet kids,by the way.
Missed one by an inch or so the other day!
I too love chasing them, but have yet to connect. A word of warning before you watch these videos: Don't drink anything because you might choke from laughing so much (@ at our expense of course). :biglaugh:

Here in Mo. they have raised the limit from 6 to 10. I have never had to worry about that though.
Nice videos waiting4fall I got my first trad kill on a squirrel at 10 or 12 yards about a week after I missed nice 8 point at the same distance lol :knothead:
I grew up hunting Squirrels in Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois. Still chasing them here in Kansas. I get way more chances at squirels on an average day of deer hunting then I ever do on deer.
I've yet to nab one. I've only taken shots at 2 while deer hunting.
I always think there will be a better shot so I hold off and end up losing them in the trees.
Great....I haven't had a chance yet to hit the woods but I really enjoy shooting squirrels. Way to go..... :notworthy: :jumper:
Pretty much all I hunt right for, too much fun. I've seen broadheads bounce off of them at close range and they will pretty much laugh if you hit them with a flu-flu and a blunt, tough as nails!

I gave up on judos too. I now use BH's or steel blunts on a 125 grain adapter. As soon as I can get some cash I'd like to try those Talons from Redfeather Archery
My favorite hunt. Great challenge and just a blast, besides they make a great camp stew.
"If you can hit a squirrel-you can hit a deer", my Grandfather about 35yrs ago me he rest in peace.
I shot one with a judo from 10 yards. The squirrel threw the arrow back at me and ran off! I think I will use old broadheads from now on!
Roll them in Jiffy corn bread mix and fry them up with bacon! MmmmmmmMmmmmm!

I don't think there is anything more fun than hunting tree rat's with a recurve, except maybe rabbit's! HA! Jason
Nice Gordon what kind of dog you got there?
Thanks Longbow Jake
She's a Boykin Spaniel. Pretty much an all around dog. I have been using Boykins for squirrel hunting for quite a few years. They are really a good companion.

Hmm, that is odd, I swear by judos, what poundage bow are you guys having problems with??? Out of my 55# curve I have never had a problem! And I have shot probably5 or so squirrels, most up in trees with flu flu's and judos!

I used my 61#, and my 58# with broadheads, small game heads. They are tough! Just look at the bloodtrail after I shot this one with a Zephyr Sasquatch..He was still kicking after I got up to him 15 minutes later! Unless you hit them in the head, they will put up a good fight!! :readit:

That is exactly why I use a judo because it never passes through, but always penetrates!
