Just confirmed all the details! My Dad, Girlfriend, and I are going hog hunting down in Florida! I'm planning on shooting my 145 grain 2-blade magnus stingers on a 560 grain 2018 out of my 56# longbow. I know the arrow weight is good to go but would you guys shoot that broadhead or something different? let me know what you guys think
That'll work fine
sounds good to me
hey man if it flies true and is sharp sounds like bacon to me :bigsmyl:
should work fine for you. Get close and shoot straight.
I was told by Curtis Kellar that any good 2 blade is good for hogs.
Paul
Yep...killed hogs with that broadhead in a similar setup. Keep them sharp and shoot for the vitals.
Nope, wont work.Thats what a compound shooter the other day at a sport show told me.He said "No arrow under 100# out of a traditional bow could kill a hild hog".He also told me he had a whole year experience in archery. So......There you are.......You bet you can, have fun and post us all some good pic's.
Just fine..keep it low and tight

100 lbs!?!?!? I don't know where your guy is getting his info cause I had one behind the counter of a pro shop tell me they didn't make longbows with draw weights over 25#'s. :p

Deleted (I thought you were talking about groundhogs). :bigsmyl:
I figured it would work alright but I've never shot a hog. I'm excited now I just have to wait until march.
I would shoot somthing differant but that is just my personal choice, the 145 grain 2 blade magnus is a great head and will do a good job. Go get a big one and show us some pics when you get back.
your set will work, I like to use 3 blades myself. I shot a small hog this year and a deer last year with a popular 4 blade broadhead and had no problems. I have taken game with 2 blade broadheads but I prefer a sharp 3 blade for deer and hogs. Good luck with your hunt, aim low and tight to front leg, avoid quarter forward shots.
3 blade!!
Well it's basically between my stingers and some wensel woodsman elites. I'm probably going to bring both and maybe i'll get lucky and get to use both!
at that weight i believe i'd use the woodsmans for better blood trails.have fun either way
can't go wrong with the Woodsmans.
I am a true believer in 3 blades for hogs.
I've had GREAT success with hogs with Woodmans also....and I killed 'BlockHead' with a Zwickey No Mercy 4 blade and got a great blood trail with it as well. I have a dozen of them made up for the St Judes Okeechobee hunt coming up soon as I'm a Zwickey fan basicaly from the start of my bowhunting life.
i've only killed one li'l ol' hog, and the woodsman did the job pretty darned quick, i'd say (right terry?).
i hope to go hog hunting come spring/summer and if so i've already 'upgraded' the vented woodsmans (250 grains w/125gr adapters) to screw-in solid machined vpa 300 grain terminators. WHOA! :scared:

VPA is now making 300 grainers????
That's good hog medicine right there!!! :readit:
yep, I'm really impressed with my 200gr. VPA's. I got a AD Trad / Trad lite test kit coming from 3R and I really hope that 30" BOP and 300gr. up front works perfect out of my 47# Buffalo Bow. Terry, you got me curious about the AD shafts because I've had a heck of a time getting my MFX Classics to tune.
What do you guys use to sharpen the woodsmans?
Get authentic and use a Hill broadhead
I get the bevels(that come arched)level on a belt sander, AND to pyramid the tips....and then use a 3 side jewelstik to drag them over to take the ruff bevels down to a polished killin edge.
I am sure it will work just fine but I don't like shooting small broadheads for hogs unless they have at least 3 blades cutting.I will not shoot a two blade under 1.5" wide for hogs.
The 2" wide Simmons Treeshark is my favorite followed by the Woodsman type 3 blades. Both of those work great with my lighter bow weights and will put a little blood on the ground.
been to 5 hog hunt and i use a old 2 blade fred bear and have no problem good luck and stay just a little low on the shoot they have a tiugh breast plate have fun and good luck
I just took 3 nice hogs with the 2 blade 200gr Muzzy phantom. With the 130lb boar the broadhead wentthrough both shields and was sticking out the other side. I've had good luck with the woodsmans too but I like to use a two blade on the larger boar hogs with a shield.
Mint, did you feel like the bleeders would hinder penetration?
I shoot the 125 Muzzy Phantoms with the bleeders in....no problems with penetration at all.
I have taken many hogs - course I live here in Texas... I use either the 160 grain Magnus 1's or the Abowyer Whitetail heads. I have used 3 blade heads and had ok results. I have taken several over 200+ and one that topped 300 with the 2 blade.
I recently got some Centaur Big Game 2 blades.(1.75" wide). 213 grains with the screw in adapter. I'll use a 100 grain brass insert. Look forward to trying these babies on a hog! They look terrific.
Your BH is adeguate, but if some big black furies are around I would upgrade my Bh. Anyway like always the key word is arrow placement, and very sharp blade.
300 xtreme three blade for me, blows right through them and puts them down.
Your setup will be fine the mangus will do a number on the hog. They are my first choice hands down. Good luck and post some pics for us to see when you get back
The Magnus is more that fine, shot placement is the key. check out this site for boar anatomy and shot placement.

I killed a lot of hogs with 2 blade zwickeys and older 2 blade bear broadheads. Like Curt said, low and tight, you'll be putting chops on the grill.
I like the narrow 3-blade heads for hogs... (Woodsman, Razorcap, VPA, 300 Extreme, and I've also got a dozen '57 vintage "Hi-Precision" 3-blades that fit in that catagory).
2 and 4 blade heads will do the trick also, but I'd stick with heads wider than 1.5"...
Sure it will work.About anything will kill a hog.I prefer bigger if useing a two blade or 3 or 4 blades if useing anything under 1.5" wide for hogs.Little blades kill them but in some of the places I hunt they don't have to go far to make recovery very hard.I want them leaving as much blood as possible if they do run. jmo
Magnus I heads have made most of my pig kills with Simmons two blades next.WW heads after that. As I have began to drop down in bow weight I got some 250 grain vpa heads I`m gonna shoot this year.As other folks have said where you hit`m is much more important than how many blades.RC
I shoot 2blade magnus on deer with no real problems, but am going with the woodsmans for an upcoming hog hunt.
A sharp cut on contact 2 or 3 blade. Have killed many with wensels and razorcaps !!! Study the anatomy of pigs before the hunt , there heart area will surprise you

Someone ought to e-mail him Terry's armor hog shield video.... :goldtooth: [/b]
The 125 gr Snuffers are another narrow 3 blade that is a pretty good broadhead -- sort of like a woodsman. The bigger ones are pretty wide.
