im shooting a 64" 3 piece ol adcock the string is 10strand 450+ i have been using mink silencers, im having a little trouble getting the residual noise to dampen, this is a vibration that carries after the shot, im not saying it is relly loud, as i am the only one hearing or feeling it. some times ill hit my wool coat sleave and the shot it silent, but that cant be my cure,
i have tried all brace heights and silencer positions.
id be glad to try anything.
How heavy is your arrow and what is your draw weight? A heavier arrow will quiet your bow some. Some people don't like them but if it's a vibration thing you may try string leaches or limb savers.
Try some wool silencers, like the Hush Puppies! I had an extra set, took the cat whiskers of my buddies new to him Turkey Creek and put on the HP's, what a difference!
On my 62" ACS 57#@28 I shoot a 6 strand 450+ with a pair of whoolie wisps and it is quiet.450+ is a pretty strong string, you don't really need 10 strands I also shoot a 6 strand 450+ of my 62# 21st Century too with no problems and shoot 8 strands of my 70# 21st Century.I feel the lower strand string is lighter weight and that helps make a bow quieter.Just a suggestion to try.
10 to 12 grains per pound of arrow weight and wool silencers, I tie my own with "thick 'n quick" wool from the craft store 18 to 24 wraps. Could also be many other small things like nock fit, etc.
Hush Puppies.
Woolie Whispers are the best that I've found, but I haven't tried the whole gamut.
I tryed several types of silencers and the wool yarn seems to work the best. One of the things I haven't tryed are the limbsavers, I just can't get myself to put them on my bow! Jason
If your nocks are too tight it will make a residual noise that is hard to get rid of. It causes other problems too. Do they make any noise at all when you put an arrow on the string? Or if you just pull the arrow off the string?
Are the loops on the string padded? If not get one. I have some bows with a few bad manners and these new strings I'm getting from Allen Shafer have solved all my issues. Also try this:

I use a camo wrap that has no adhesive it clings to itself on all my bows,I dont have a noise issue it helps protect the bow.But when I did wheels it dramatically decreased the noise and vibration better than those navcom stick on things.IMO
heavier arrow, hush puppies (locate to suit), skinny string.
I haven't done it....but more and more folks are telling us they split the Hush Puppies equally, and place them at the 1/3rd AND the 1/4th position and it works really well. I usually put mine at the 1/3rd on recurves, and at the 1/4th on longbows....But....
I'm going to try that on my next bow and see for myself. It makes sense as your will be addressing both locations instead of one with the same amount of silencer.
the bow is 63lb at 28 i draw 30.5 havnt scaled it yet , the arows are arow dynamic trads full lenght with 320 up front.
i like the idea of the wool, i tried some but it had the hide on it like other silencers.
camo, the nocks fit about perfect if not a little loose
i am with Camodip, sounds like your knocks might be a little too tight.
At the risk of showing once again I'm as Trad as I wanna be, try Limbsavers on the limbs and add string leeches or a clone thereof to the string.
I put musk ox puffs on the string (lightweight & astheticaly pleasing) then add a leech close to & under each puff...
Makes for about as vibration free & quiet as a trad bow can be.
BTW, if you are going to shoot/hunt in temps of 20 degrees or chillier, peel the factory sticker buttons off the limbsaver base and put them on the limbs with barge cement, as the factory stuff
loses it's grip in colder temps...
on those wool balls do you put it beetween the strands or just serve them on? looks like any 100 percent wool yarn would work.
jrchambers,
I just tie the strands in the center of the bunch, and slip them in between the twists of the string. I don't tie them into the string itself.
It works for me............
Winterhawk1960
thank you don, im on my way to the fabric store to see what they have. i would like to try not to put rubber in the string but if it helps, i also have a rubber strap on quiver that doesnt seem to make much difference,
i dont feel comfortable going any thiner than 10 strands, im probably pulling around 68 to 70lbs, i have had a bad experience with the 6 strands.
Nothing beats Real fur Beaver or muskrat fur cut in strips wound around bowstring works well for me ''
Trad Bowhunter Mag did a study and found that string leaches work best, but cost some performance. Use a heavy arrow plus the string leaches and I bet you will be good. Play with your brace height a bit too.

Limbsavers will solve the problem.
i made some wool puff balls and it sounded the same as the mink strips and wool strips, i then added some small home made rubber tabs in the string and a world of difference,
i guess having shot only a shrew for the last year is spoiling me, i guess this bow just needs some rubber in the string to satisfy my picky needs
Have someone else shoot the bow while you stand beside them and see how loud it is. I always think my bows are noisey untill I hear them from a non shooting position.
Denny
Make sure your brace height is right. It sounds like it might be a tad high.

i have had some one else shoot it but they dont draw as far as me, could hardly hear it. and still i like the bow to be quiet and shock free for me the shooter the brace height is set at 7 i have gone from 6 3/4 to 7 1/2 many times and 7 is the smoothest.
thanks every one ill keep playing with it
Terry, thats what I have done. With the skinny strings. I used 8-9 strands of the Hush puppys. Works Great.
My bow it extremly quite. But I think its the culmination of a good bow, a skinny string, a heavy arrow, brace height and a few strands of Hush puppies. I love my set up.
